hi its board admin here been looking at your post again and I think you will find you have a few names dates and relationships mixed up as the dates dont add up anyway heres what I,ve found for you....John william kettle born 1843 city of london, fathers name john william 1818, mothers name mary 1820, sister mary jp 1848.
john william snr was a butler in the chelsea then classed as middlesex but because of boundry changes now london, even in the 1800,s chelsea was a very wealthy place and a butler was ranked much higher than a domestic servant.
1871 census
john william kettle 1848
wife eliza, child george
john william is an omnibus condutor a step down from fathers position in life,by 1881 george has left home but mary jane 1872, and albert edward 1880, now i know you stated albert walter but i have rechecked this and its definatley ablert edward not walter.
1881 census shows john william as unemployed and being supported by eliza who is a mantle cutter
1891 census as you say albert seems to have dissapearred he was place in an orphanage for boys in brighton england, aged only 10 with both parents dead and know means of support or know one willing to care for him he would have been classed as a pauper bare in moind also that boys considered likely to resort to crime or who had been caught committing a crime would be placed in places such as this, basically he was alone, mary jane was a domestic servant to a family called cussons in london, I can as yet not find alfred you mentioned.
1901 census albert edward is back in london living with george rota an uncle not brother as you thought and working as a salesman, it states salesman not hawker which means he was activley employed and had managed to raise himself back up.
london marrage register for 1929 shows him marrying an ivy f oliver but when i tried to trace her family it came back flora i oliver but transcripts are never 100% acurate AND I AM POSITIVE ITS ONE AND THE SAME PERSON
flora or ivy was born in chelsea and her brother william was an onibus conductor like alberts father
they were married in brentford kent.
Transcripts can never be taken as 100% correct especially the further back you go, i myself am a transcriber and believe me some of the handwritten documents like census and parish records are often barely readable. i can understand the confusion you faced as it took me several hours to get to the bottom of your search, hop this helps and please come back and use this board again

message from admin,rastajill
as you stated 1901 census shows Myra as head of household and yet nothing on 1891 census, however always bare in mind the transcripts are from hand written documents that are often difficult to read. However it is also documented as Mary, yet as a daughter is also called Myra I would Tend to go with that

1891 census shows Edwin e Kettle born 1849 in Newcastle Staffordshire.
wifes name is Mehabrtabel obvously a bad transcription as the transcription has left oppertunity to update name, It states that Edwin is an Agent (probably Railway as will become obvious later).
Household includes, Edith 1873, Mary1874, Alice 1876, Alfred 1879, Norah 1881, Gertrude 1884, percy 1886.
1881 census shows the same family but Edwin is Station master at oakmoor station staffordshire.
A question also arrises as to if Edwin married before????
1851 census raises another question can find no Edwin Kettle who fits date range however can find a william kettle aged 2 son of railway worker in oakmoor staffordshire, who I believe is one and the same....hope this helps. If you require any further help please post an updated message as I have access to quite a few helpful sourses which I can access

a little bit more for you to help with your search
Catherine Maud Kettle married Jacob George Barnes in the 3rd Quarter, jul aug sept 1918 in Hackney London England, however can find not evidance of them emmigrating to Canada before the date you stated William was born, however did find record of a George Barnes travelling alone.
travelled aboard Tinisan on the 24th May 1920 Montral Quebec
aged 22 which age wise and the fact he travelled alone at such an early age suggests that maybe Catherine was to far gone in pregnancy to travel.
He worked as a farmer whilst in Canada, will search further to see if I can pin down either there arrival back in England or anything other

hi jackie thanks for reply,as administrator of the kettle board i need to ensure that as much help is givin to you in your searches which is why updating messages can often give a freash approach to your search. you will also see that if replys are not picked up people simply will not bother to reply as they will think its a waist of time . Having explained the reason behind asking everyone to update there boards that are over 3 months old is for everyones benifit.
Now back to your search don,t take it for granted that you have the name Martha wrong quite often the name that appears on the census has been transcribed wrong I have found many such incidents and being activly involved in transcribing I can appreciate how difficult it is to read some of the hand written original documents, I think the best way forward would be to try and get hold of an original certificate or to check the immigration passenger lists here at ancestry. good luck in your search if you require any further assistant please let me know as I have quite a few resources at my finger tips.

hi I am the new administrator for the kettle board first of all I,d like to say hello to all my long lost rellies out there. Did you all know that Kettle is one of the oldest recorded surnames in England. I will shortly be reviewing our board and removing very old messagea after i have contacted the owners to give them the oppertunity to update there message before hand. Certificates are a great source to backing up what you have found however over time they can work out expensive why not share them with other members, they may return the favour to you one day, the same with photographs. if any of you have questions out there don,t hestitate to contact me, problems with your searches reached a brick wall together the kettle family will sort it out

Re: Catherine Maud KETTLE 1891 England

William Wilson Kettle b.1860 at Grand Bay, Newfoundland was the son of William Kettle b.c 1801 of Dorset, England. William's first known residence in Newfoundland was at Brunet Island. He later moved to Fox Island Hr. and finally to Grand Bay. W. Wilson was the first child of William's third wife. That line of Kettles was not the only group to reside in Newfoundland. At least one other group lived there, from a John Kettle of Somerset, England. A third group resided at Placentia Bay, Newfounland and may be separate from the William (Dorset) and John (Somerset) groups.

It is unlikely that Catherine Maud Kettle 1891 England is descended from William Kettle given that he emigrated during the 1820s. Newfoundland did not join Canada until 1949 so a residency in Canada in the 1920's suggests an entirely separate group.

Blair Wilson Kettle (G.Grandson of Wilson Kettle, Grand Bay)

How lovely to see another person interested in heritage. My Great Great Grand Father was Wilson Kettle from Gran Bay, Port-aux-Basques Newfoundland. From what I understand all the Kettles of NL originate from this family line. You can look him up online as he made the Guiness World Book of records and was a most interesting man. I don't have access to my family records as I am away but I am always interested in making new connections.
Kindly
Marilyn

The rest of the Duncan family has been rather hard for me to find any info on, as my Dad knows nothing at all about William and Catherine's children. A cousin in Dunedin has been able to find a little info from the Settlers museum. My aim is to see if I can find any living cousins on my Dads side while he is still alive. Thanks again for your info. Lianne

They moved into their home in West Hartford, Connecticut and later had 6 children (4 sons & 2 daughters) with Anne being the oldest child born to Joan.
