Hello. Someone on a NH List was asking about an obituary from the 1980's involving Manchester, NH. I went to the web site for the "Manchester Union Leader," and didn't find the obituary that a researcher was looking for.

But, when I looked around the web site, I found out that this newspaper does have an "archives." But, it only goes back to 1989. I know there are KIDDER's in the Manchester, NH, area. One descendant of my Maine families lives there. And, a KIDDER helped to found that city. So, I did a "search" for KIDDER in the archives.

One of the first things which popped up was an obituary mentioning that there used to be a "Kidder's Restaurant" in New Ipswich, NH. I had never heard that before. Does anyone know about it?

(My ancestor, Joseph, and his 2 brothers, Reuben and Aaron, helped to found that town. But, I didn't know any of their "many" descendants still lived in that area.) (They had about 30 children between them.)

Here is the page where the KIDDER name comes up in a search:

OR, you can go to the home page and look for "archive" at the top left corner.

(I just heard last week that the middle son of Joseph KIDDER did live to be an adult. The family had moved to the next town, Temple, NH. A volunteer at that Historical Society just told me that Joseph, Sr., and Joseph, Jr., ran a tavern in that town.)

(The mystery involves Joseph, Jr., and his cousin, Joseph, who had moved to Temple - from Westford, MA. The "vital records" show a 1795 marriage between a Joseph KIDDER, Jr., and "Mrs. Hulda (?) STILES. But another record shows a Joseph KIDDER marrying a "Miss" Hulda STILES, dau. of Asa.)
