She was definitely passionate about genealogy & provided major contributions to the Kiddo family tree. I was fortunate enough to find a copy of her book "A history of the Kiddoo family in the United States, 1780-1981" as well as the original book that which she updated. But before this Bette graciously provided me with the pages pertaining to my family. My prayers & thoughts go out to her family.

Marie, who died in infancy and Don, who was my grandfather.

I have seen this family picture of Renn and his sisters that you both are speaking of, but would love to see the others!

Sincerely,
Angie Kiddoo

I believe that William and Mary Griffith were orphans raised by Eliza (Vanatta) Kiddoo, according to Eliza's obituary (see A History of the Kiddoo Family in the U.S. 1780-1981, p. 161-162; available online at BYU Harold B. Lee Library http://www.lib.byu.edu/digital). Although this is only speculation and don't have any more information on them. Good luck with your research.

Kiddoo/Griffith Connection

Does anyone have information about the circumstances leading to William Griffith and his sister Mary residing with the Richard Kiddoo family in Mercer County, Illinois? They are with the family in the 1860 census - Mary is 10 and William is 9. Both children were listed with their parents (William and Ann) in the 1850 census. In the 1870 census William is still with the Richard Kiddoo family, but Ann is not, perhaps having married.

Thanks for your message. We have managed to trace our Caddows back to James Coudie Born about 1770 ? where- married to Jean/Jane Rae daughter of John Rae and Mary Thomson. We have not found their births yet so not sure if it Scotland or Ireland. Their names are spelt Caudie,Cowdie, Caldow,Cuddie, Cuddaw and Caddow on various documentations but haven't found any with the Kiddoo spelling yet.
If you think we may descend from the same family would be very interested in sharing information.
Susan Fotheringhame, Brisbane, Australia

I am descended from Jame Kiddoo who came to America with his father, George & 3 brothers. I have recently been checking on the name as it might have been spelled in Scotland. We know that they spent at least one generation in IRE. James died in Allegheny co., PA 30 Sep 1823, leaving his 2nd wife, Mary Tidball.
In 1981, I updated the Kiddoo Family History in the U.S. 1790-1981.
Am more happy to share information and learn more.
Bette Butcher Topp

I have only recently become aware of your 1981 book on the KIDDOO family and found it very useful in providing information about the Rev Kiddoo Thomas Peter Simmons ((1865-1947) (son of Philip Simmons and Jane Kiddoo). K.P.T. Simmons was married to Blanche B. Humes who is linked to my NEGLEY family.

Do you have any additional information on K. T. P. Simmons beyond that which is in your book.

I am working on a major study of the family of Alexander NEGLEY, thus my interest. Willing to share.

Bill Muller
muller1938@yahoo.com

Thank you very much for your help. The book was new to me. I am aware of the census data regarding Mingo Kiddoo, but know of little else. The women listed with him on the 1870 census have proved untracable. Any new leads or other information would be greatly appreciated. Given the family welfare, I think it unlikely that he ever left Georgia (though I am not sure of his death location) and likely died between the 1900-1910 census (he would have been in his 90s).
