Hello,

I'm sorry to say that I can't be of any help to you in
your search for Kief's. I have researching the Kief's
from New York as we are called and have not stumbled upon
anyone you mention. My research documents all the Kief's
back to about 1822 or when they arrived in the U.S. in
1867 from Baden Germany.
I would suggest you write to a Tammy Russell who knows so much more about the Kief's, her research goes back hundreds
of years before mine and is especialy helpful to those Kief's in Illinois.

We believe we are somehow related since hers are from Baden
also but we have been unable to find the link .

Good luck with your research and let me know if I can
be of help.

George

I am the granddaughter of Fredrick Kief who married Emma McKenzie from Mcleansboro, Illinois back in the late teens or early 20s. I know nothing of his ancestry, birth place, etc. In our family, we considered ourselves of German descent through him. He and my grandmother moved to Washington State and had two children together, Ann and Elmer. My grandfather had some brothers, Mike, Ed and Otto. Ed lived in California.
I would love any information that someone might have.

I am the gr.gr.gr. grandson of Johann Jacob Weisbrodt & Anna M. Altenburger. His parents were Johann Adam Weissbrodt & Anna Catherina Muller. I have nothing further on that line.

Her parents were Jacob Altenburger & Suzanne Seybold. It appears that they were both dead by the time of Anna M.'s marriage, 4/24/1813. I have nothing further on that line.

Jacob's only sibling was my Gr. Gr. Granmother, Anna Catherina [1815-1900]. My note says their mother was dead before 6/1819.

There were sixty-plus citizens of Reilingen who came to America. Tammy Russell and I coauthored a book about them.
Do you have it?

Evidently Katherina Grenner was dead by the time of the emigration of Johann Jacob Vogely, daughter Catherina, (born in 1830), and sons Phillip & Jaco Jr.. They settled in Woodford County, Ill, Catherina married Peter Brust there in 1851. There was a marriage of Phillip in 1852, but none ot the three men show up anywhere else in the records. (I think the two Jacobs died of Cholera, but that is speculation: my Gr. Grandfather Michael Adolph said that his brother, Jacob, died of cholera in Illinois. Jacob had married a woman who lived next door to the Vogelys in late 1851, and there was a lot of it giong around in those days.)

Catherine Vogely Brust had three children, was widowed, remarried, had three more and died in San Jose, Ill. in 1873. Your gr. gr. Grandmother Christina and she were together in San Jose for a few years.

Then Jacob & Christina decided to move to Fenton, Iowa, probably because his sons wouldn't be likely to find farms around San Jose. I suppose you have the family story from that point on. Maurice Weisbrod sent me a copy.

Maurice Weisbrod and Don Yager have copies of my book.

Regards, Cousin,

Mike Adolph

My great-great grandfather was Jacob John Weisbrod born in Reilingen July 5, 1818. He married Anna Catherina Schneider Jan. 26,1843 at the Lutheran Church there. She and their twin children died prior to 1845 in Germany. Sept. 3, 1845, Jacob married Christina Katherine Vogele (Vogely). Christina was born June 29, 1824. Her parents were Johann Jakob Vogely and Katherina Grenner.
Jacob, Christina and infant son Peter came to the U.S. in 1847.
The parents of Jacob John Weisbrod were Johann Jakob Weissbrodt and Anna M. Altenberger.
This is where the line ends for my family. Do you have information about Johann Jakob Weissbrodt, Anna M. Altenberger, Johann Jakob Vogely or Katherina Grenner? Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Rudolph Kief

I am trying to find out more info about Rudolph Kief and his wife who emigrated to Central Illinois (Tazewell, Woodford Co. area) from Germany in the early 1850s. I have a copy of the Kief book written by a granddaughter of Rudolph in the early 1900s. The book mentions all Rudolph's children (Wolrad, Adam *my line, George, Martin, Margaret, Philip, Elizabeth, Fredricka, and Katherine) and their descendants. I am interested in our German history and ancestors prior to the 1850s. I also would like to know Rudolph's wife's name. If any Kief descendants have any information, I would be happy to share any info I can provide.

I have a branch of ZAHNs from Reilingen that I am researching, but recently came across a Martin Vogely and wife, Mary A., who are buried in the Hamman Church cemetery in Zahns Corner, Pike, OH. They are undoubtedly related to the Reilinger Vögelys. I have pictures of their headstones on my website at: http://sps.k12.mo.us/khs/zahn/descend/cemeteries/cems.htm if you are interested.

I am a descendant of Rudolph Kief also. I am a great great grandaughter of his son Martin Kief who came to the United States as a young man. At one time I had a copy of the Kief book that his granddaughter put together. Although it was incomplete and did not have dates, it was a wonderful start to my research that I started in 1979.

Unfortunately, I sent all the information that I collected to a Mary Kief in Illinois back in 1994-95 and I never heard from her again. I would love to find here as she was doing some research of her own. I gave her ALOT of info.

I can be a great help to someone if they want to contact me. Many of my relatives--direct grandchildren of Martin Kief are still alive and could be contacted.

I am trying to find out info about a Lawrence Kief, son of Albert Kief, Grandson of George Kief and Great Grandson of Rudolph Kief. I am trying to see if he is the same Lawrence Kief that had a wife named Rowena and was in the Detroit area. Any other Kief's that are Decendants of Ruloph, would love to hear from you.

Wolrad, Adam, George, martin, Philip, Elizabeth, Catherine, Fredericka, Margaret and Lena. They came to America in 1851. Maybe this Catherine and yours are the same?

Rudolph Kief

Wow! What a great family story. I would love to know if we have the same Rudolph. I don't know how to hook them up since I have so little info. But, I don't think my Rudolph had a son named Joseph. I have a Kief book that is my source. It says Rudolph Kief and his family sailed from Germany in 1851. They went on the Illinois river to Pekin, Illinois, then a settlement in the center of the US but now a thriving city in Central Illinois. I am married to a decendent of Rudolph's second son, Adam.

My gr. grandparents and gr.-gr grandparents came from Reilingen: Michael Adolph, his wife, Agnes Gruensfelder, and her parents, John and Catherine (Weisbrod). They lived in Mason, Woodford, Tazewell, & Logan Counties. I have a copy of the book: 700 Jahres Reilingen. It reports that Kiefs left Reilingen for America in both 1850 and 1851. Michael & wife & children. Next year - Rudolph, single, brewer; also - another Rudolph, married, with children- Adam & Woldred (also called Wolrad). I am doing cluster genealogy for all the people who came from Reilingen, so I want to share all I've gotten and get as much as possible.
