My ggf, Joseph George Kieran, was born in County Louth on the 21-1-1862. We believe his father was James and his mother was a Callan.
Joseph went by the name of Kiernan for some years.
He married a Catherine Carnie (nee Magheels) in Esquimalt, Canada on 14-11-1904. Catherine had a 5 year old son called Edward from a previous marriage.
The couple moved to Seattle, Washington, where Joseph worked as a publican. They had four children, James Francis (1905 - 1959), John Charles (1907 - 1972), Joseph Patrick (1910 - 1980) and Kathleen Claire (1914 - 1978).
The family (minus Edward) moved to Ireland (possibly because of Prohibition), where Joseph managed the Dublin Hotel.
The family migrated to Australia in 1925.
