Kieran's in New York and New Jersey
I am looking for information on my husband's family in New York. Mark's ggggggrandfather & grandmother were Michael & Catharine (maiden name: McMurtry) Kieran of New York. They are buried at Warwick Cemetary, Orange Co., Warwick, NY along with many other later generations. Michael was born in 1753 in Ireland (according to his son John's information on the 1880 Census:where John was living in Chester, Orange, New York at the age 82 he is recorded as living with and working for the family of Peter Drew as a farmer & creamer). Michael died Dec 18, 1851, Catharine was born 1780 in NJ (place also according to John's information) and died Sept. 18, 1855. John ( 1798-1882) is the only child we know of. He married 1st Diana Allger (1798-1829) and then Hannah Pelton ( Feb 11, 1801-March 28, 1868) who was the the grandmother of our branch of the family and who was of a very old family that dates back to Boston ( John Pelton 1615-1680 m. Susannah Crompton Way 1621-1706----Susannah's father Henry was called "The Puritan"). John & Hannah had John P. Kieran (Jan. 24, 1832-abt. March 26, 1894) he married Mary E. Swan (Sept. 23, 1834-March 16, 1898) they had Charles J., Harriet & William. Charles J. (1864-1919) married Janet F. Banks (1871-1951) they had John Banks Kieran, Edythe F. & Lillian. John Banks (1892-1962) married Esther Marthis (dates unknown) and they had Charles E. Kieran (July 9, 1912-May 13, 1956). Charles E. married Dorothy C. Herzog ( 1915-Dec 1956). Charles and Dorothy are Mark's grandparents. Most of these people are (with the exception of Esther Marthis, Charles E. and Dorothy) buried at Warwick Cemetary (we personally have pictures of all of these burial sites). Charles and Dorothy are buried in East Hanover, NJ. As you can see we have quite a bit of information and other little tidbits that we've picked up along way (especially about Hannah Pelton's family who by the way many are also buried in Warwick Cemetary) BUT we are stumped when we get to Michael and Catharine. Michael came to the States much earlier then any immigration records that I can find. I haven't been able to locate Catharine's family. If anyone has any information we would greatly appreciate it and would be more the happy to share all we know with you. We would especially like to know about Michael. Where he came from in Ireland, who his family was, etc. Thanks for your help.
