I don't know what I'm getting into by posting this reply. I don't want to be a member of ancestry.com or pay any unexpected fees. Are you a daughter- in- law of Charles and Clara Kieran? I don't see any reference to Lillian or Edith Kieran or to their children. We have a marriage jug dated 1790 celebrating the marriage of John fancher to Hannah Pelton. I believe that they are also branches of the Kieran ancestral tree. Please reply and let us know who you are. My son, incidentally, is named Kieran.

interesting post. Don't know any Dawn Kieran, but this is my family you are referring to. I believe we can't trace it back any further than Michael either. My father is Charles E. Kieran Jr.

Natthew Kieran - Coole Townland - Ardee

Would love to hear from anyone related to, or with information concerning the Kieran family of Coole Townland, Ardee, circa 1850-1930 and perhaps later than that (Principally, Matthew Kieran, his wife Ellen (Fey, Fegan, Fagen or Hagen) and family).

Newly acquired information after visiting Ardee and environs:
Matthew Kieran - probably Matthew Kieran born 1831 at Dundalk. parents: Patrick Kieran and Catherine Hoey. Died between 1901 and 1911 Censuses, although a Matt Kieran born at Drogheda 1832 is also a candidate (still awaiting death certificate info which should confirm either or).

Wife: Ellen (Fegan?) died between 1896 and 1901.
Both of above buried at Ballapousta cemetery, near Ardee, with sons: James, Joe and Matthew.

The family nickname was "Gull Kierans", presumably to distiguish them from other Kieran families in the Ardee area.

I see that your posting is several years old, but if you're still looking, I think that my wife is your second or third cousing. Her grandfather was Laurence Kieran, your grandmother's brother. We were talking about Kieran relatives tonight at dinner and while the girls were finishing homework (one of our daughters is Meghan Kieran Riley), I thought I'd do some research.

My ggf, Thomas Kieran, was a farmer from Monaghan. He was married to Mary McPhillips. My gf, Edward Kieran, was born in 1896. He emigrated to Brooklyn in the late 40's. He died in 1953 when my dad, Owen Kieran, was 3. We have never had any contact with my gf's family. I know that there were quite a few siblings, I'm not sure of how many though.

I have been unsucessfully trying to locate my dad's, Owen Kieran, paternal relatives. They're not from Louth but some of the names match up. My ggf, Thomas Kieran, was a farmer from Drumhilla, Co.Monaghan. His wife was Mary McPhillips. My gf, Edward Kieran, was born in 1896. He moved to Brooklyn in the 40's and died in '53. I know he had many siblings that stayed in Ireland but we have been unable to locate them.

Oliver I am Mick Kieran from Coventry I would be intrested in your Kilnasaggart stone. I am trying to find info on my granddad Joseph Patrick Kieran who moved to Aberbargoed SWales around 1914/5 and married my nan in 1916. His father Thomas Kieran was a farmer in the Dundalk area. Hi,

I am looking for information on Kierans from Birkenhead...my great-grandfather was Thomas (b. 1890 Co. Louth - d. 1957 Birkenhead) and he married Helena Allen in 1916. I believe his parents were John and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) and their other children included Patrick, John, Mary, Robert, Elizabeth and Annie.

If anyone thinks they have any information, that would be great!

Hi Mary, I can do alittle bit of Irish Dancing, but it was about 6 years ago that I learnt it. I do go dancing too I do Tap, Ballet and Modern. I've been going for 11 years and have done 5 shows and lots of exams! My next shows next year. I've be in 2 competitioins, But I didn't do as well as your daughters, Tell them well done, I think Irish dance is very good to watch and I had fun learning what I learnt,but I found it abit hard, your daughers must be very good to do that well. Hi Claire, At Long last I can look up this page and look forward to seeing something. My daughter Marie was delighted to think she might have another cousin. I have 5 children--Susan is a nurse,just moved from London to Edinburgh this week, she trained in Chase Farm hosp. in Middlesex. Eddie works in Dublin, he is a glasier, Kieran is a bank employee, Joanne is a student, she hopes to join the police, then Marie, she is also a student. I have more details about my ancestry. Joseph George Kieran (my gggrandfather) was born in Painstown, Parish of Dunleer, Louth. He had 2 sisters -Mary born 15/3/1850, and Anne born 23/2/1853. His parents were James Kieran and Mary Callan. Sponsors of the three children at their baptism were Michael, John and Cathne (sic) Callan.

You have an 's' at the end of your name, and so far as I know, our family did not have that final letter.
However, I will keep your message in mind as I am trying to locate the origin of my ggf Owen who came from Co. Louth.

what year he reached the USA.

hi patrick, my dad was thomas patrick and his uncle was patrick; it appears your youngest is named after me. .patrick and his brothers james,thomas and hugh all came from a farm in Gortnana, co. Monaghan on the kileevan/kilmore parish line in the late 1880's. Left father William mother Anne Thornton, sister Eliza( no offspring) and brother Owen (no offspring)behind. We believe William had at least one brother named Thomas. Can you fill in any blanks?

My ggf, Joseph George Kieran, was born in County Louth on the 21-1-1862. We believe his father was James and his mother was a Callan.
Joseph went by the name of Kiernan for some years.
He married a Catherine Carnie (nee Magheels) in Esquimalt, Canada on 14-11-1904. Catherine had a 5 year old son called Edward from a previous marriage.
The couple moved to Seattle, Washington, where Joseph worked as a publican. They had four children, James Francis (1905 - 1959), John Charles (1907 - 1972), Joseph Patrick (1910 - 1980) and Kathleen Claire (1914 - 1978).
The family (minus Edward) moved to Ireland (possibly because of Prohibition), where Joseph managed the Dublin Hotel.
The family migrated to Australia in 1925.
