I would like to submit the following information concerning Hezekiah Kifer:
In the 1850 Census for Warrick County, there is no Hezekiah listed with Archibald Kifer, although I Do find one listed with a William Kifer:
Page 133
29 154 154 Kifer Wm 30 M Tenn X
30 154 154 Kifer Barbary 24 F Ky
31 154 154 Kifer Henry 6 M IN X
32 154 154 Kifer Hesekiah 5 M IN
33 154 154 Kifer William 4 M IN
34 154 154 Kifer James Jr 2 M IN
35 154 154 Kifer James Sen 23 M Farmer Tenn
And although there is a Hezekiah listed with the Archibald Kifer family in the 1860 Federal Census, I do not believe he was a son (maybe a nephew).
There is printed in the book "Warrick County, Indiana Cemeteries Vol. 1, Greer & Campbell Townships"(by J. Oscar & Opal B. Phillips / published in cooperation with Capt. Jacob Warrick Chapter, NSDAR, Boonville, Indiana by Cook - McDowell Publications, Inc. 719 E. 6th St. Owensboro, Kentucky 42301)on Page 28A an obituary for Hezekiah Kifer. it reads as follow:
Boonville Standard, November 3, 1922
Hezekiah Kifer, born May 1844, died October 27, at the age of 78, from a tree limb falling on his head. He married Katheryn Miller, December 1861. They had 8 children, all living and the aged wife.
Kifer, Stone, & Smith question

I' ve been researching my Kifer & Stone families, and am a bit confused by some things. My 3 great- Grandparents are Archibald & Matilda "Stone" Kifer, who were married September 9, 1835 in Warren County, Kentucky. My problem lies with the fact that according to others, researching this family, Catherine, their first child, was born ONLY 4 MONTHS AFTER THEIR MARRIAGE , on January 22, 1836. The earliest she could have been born after the marrige would be June, Right ?
I know that Matilda was married before(June 22, 1829, in Warren County, Kentucky) to Aaron Smith, that they had at least 4 children together, the last one being Hanna Gage Smith, born May 28, 1834 in Warren County, and that Aaron died sometime in 1835.
So what I want to know is, did someone mess up on Catherine's birthdate and if so what is the right date or was she really a child of Aaron & Matilda. The only other option would be that she was the Love child of Archibald & Matilda, and that they had to get married.
I won't put anything down as fact, unless I know it for sure, so if anyone can help straighten this mess out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

I have a question I hope someone can answer for me. Does anyone know when he died and where? He married a Nancy A Ashley on 2 Jun 1839. They had a son James Kifer who might have died as a child. Could they have also had a son named John F Kifer? I have John F Kifer showing up on the 1850 Census in Misssouri. He is with Epraim Lernly? And Nancy Ann Lernly. Did Abraham die and Nancy Ann remarried? I sure hope someone can help me with this. Thanks in advance.

Re: First Cousins Married? George Kifer b 1823 and Sarah Ash b 1833

Hi Jim,

I am not sure of the George Kifer link, but I am sure my Sarah Ash is David and Christena's daughter. David Ash lived in Peoria IL in 1860 and 1870. In 1850, the Ash family was in Licking Co OH and Sarah was living with them (so not married to George Kifer yet): David 54, Christean (sp) 56, Catharine 20, and Jacob 12. David and wife list birthplaces as MD or PA. I know my George Kifer was born in March 1823 in either PA or MD.

A question: in 1870's census in Peoria Co IL, David and Christena Ash have son Jacob, 32, living with them; they also have a Christena White, 16, b OH and a 17-year old farm hand. Do you know who Christena White is?

I'll respond more later but wanted to reply to your post.

Lucy, I have the family a little different.
I have George and Catherine with a son, George Washington (b. 1833), who married Rachel E. Gould in 1855. They lived in Allegany Co, MD, where George and Catherine moved in 1834.
Did they have two sons named George?
The George who married Sarah Ash is certainly a good fit, but I'd be interested in how they were connected. I had no ancestry for him at all.

Does anyone know whether the following information is correct? My George Kifer, b 1823 PA, had parents George Kifer 1782 and Catherine Ash 1798 MD/PA. Younger George married Sarah Ash b 1833 OH. Sarah's parents were David Ash 1796 and Christina/Christena/Christiana b 1794. I think David Ash (Sarah's father) and Catherine Ash (George's mother) were siblings, which would make George and Sarah first cousins.

Is any of this familiar, or does anyone have information to confirm or contradict this? I'm happy to share what I know.

Thank you,

Lucy

I have George Kifer, son of George and Sarah Asch/Ash. George (son) is brother of my g-grandfather Jacob Franklin Kifer. Don't know if they're the same family. Jacob was born in 1858 IL, don't know brother George's birthdate but could be yours. Father George born in 1823 PA (although one census lists birthplace MD), married Asch/Ash (b OH) who died in 1888. The family went west to Tescott KS and homesteaded there. George (father) lived with another son, Joe (and his family) in 1900 in KS. Jacob died in MO in 1945. If any of this sounds like it fits with your info, please let me know. Thanks.

Not related to Kifers. I'm putting together information containing the locations, students and teachers of former rural schools once of Spring Creek and Millstone Townships, now in Elk County, PA Pictures are also very important.
The name, Nella Kifer, single, age 24 years was living in the household of William P. Henry and family in the Hallton aera in 1880. Nella was listed as a teacher in the rural school in Spring Creek Twp. Probably boarding with the Henry family. If anybody has addition information about Nella Kifer, please send me an e-mail. Possibly Nella Kifer married a Mr. Shaffer from the same area. If so, then I would have additional information about her to share.

They are buried at the cemetary of Bernie, Missouri along with other Kifer family members....Mabel Kifer-b. 2/16/05 d. 1/6/30, Earl S. Kifer b. 8/9/14 d. 9/18/2000, and Homer U. Kifer b. 11/9/03 d. 4/18/62. There are yearly Kifer reunions in Dexter, Missouri and I believe someone is doing a family history tree but I currently do not have that info.
William Kifer

I believe the family you are looking for is William Kifer and Barbara Ann Cox.
He was born 7 Apr 1822 in TN, to
Henry Kauffer (Kifer) and his wife, Catherine.Henry was born in York Co, PA, 18 Nov 1797, but his kids were born in TN and KY.
William's dau, Martha, was supposedly born in Fannin Co, TX, about 1864, but the family was later in Cedar, MO.
The German origins of the name cause it to be spelled many different ways, making the
records of the family hard to assemble.
Henry's parents were Johann Kauffer (Kifer) and Clara Ottinger.
Johan's parents were Peter Kaeuffer and Dorothea Elizabeth Wintermyer. Peter was born in Germany about 1730 to Henry Margaret. Peter only had one other son, another Peter, but he spelled the name Kieffer and his family soon became Keefer.
