I am not researching the Kiger line but only happened to record some Kiger weddings when looking for other weddings, because of the people I met in my church yard. I am glad to give this information to you. Ralph Berkshire and Sarah Kyger married 7 Feb 1803 by Revd. Robert Manley, Fielding Kyger and Polly Madera, married 25 Sept 1809 by Joseph A. Shackleford, Robert Hawthorn and Nancy L. Kyger 5 Mar 1811, Eli B Swearingen and Susannah Kyger 18 Aug 1814, Henry Kyger and Prudence Everly 25 May 1819, all 3 also by Shackleford, George Kiger and Mary Rebecca Cooper 5 Aug 1841 by Rev. James Davis, Edward G. Brooks to Eliza Kiger 9 April 1846 by Davis, Warren Bailey to Mary A. Kiger 15 Feb 1848 by Revd J. W. Reger. I did not browse the record beyond 1852.

I am looking for the people whom I met on June 7 in the church yard of the 1st Presbyterian church in Morgantown, WV where Hugh McNeely is buried. I know that they were from Utah, had been in Winchester before they came to Morgantown, and that they were going to Oak Grove Cemetery to find Kiger connections. I forgot to get an e-mail address and do not remember the name. At the courthouse today I saw the marriage of Fielding Kyger to Polly Madera on 26 Sept 1809. They were married by Joseph A. Shackleford. I also recorded 4 other Kiger marriages before 1850.

Christianna "Anne" KIGER (1824-1925)

Partial obituary (unknown source)
"CHRISTIANN, daughter of Samuel and Susannah Nimrick Kiger, was born February 16, 1824, in Xenia, Ohio, and passed away in her old home, May 1, 1925, at the age of one-hundred-and-one years, two months and fifteen days.
At the age of four years her parents moved to Adams Township, then to Chester Township, Clinton County, where the rest of her life was spent.
At the age of seventeen she became a member of the Baptist Church.
On March 31, 1842, she was married to Joseph Finch, who died May 15, 1873. To this union were born two children, N. S. and Louisa, afterward Mrs. Disbro. N. S. the son, died in the service of his country in 1864, at the age of twenty-one years, ten months and eight days."
Note: There is a marriage record in Warren Co. Ohio [31 Mar 1842] that has been transcribed as the marriage of Christena Keiger and Joseph French.
Note: N. S. Finch is most likely Nathaniel S. A. Finch who served in the 34th Ohio Infantry. The "History of Clinton County, Ohio" gives the following mention: "Enos Finch enlisted in his country's service and died a martyr to the cause of freedom." Enos Finch is how he appears in the 1870 census.

Death of Benjamin KIGER

"The History of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ" notes that Benjamin KIGER of Illinois died in 1849. Benjamin was the husband of Catherine WEIKLE and father of the widely known William Weikle KIGER, an early settler of Oregon. I believe that Benjamin likely died in McLean Co. IL - which is where we see his widow, Catherine KIGER, and daughter, Martha (Kiger) GRIFFIN living at the time of the 1850 US census. Also there at that time is John E. KIGER, who I believe is the youngest child of Benjamin and Catherine. Benjamin had been a long time preacher of the United Brethren of Christ church while in Ohio. He was first associated with the Scioto conference (1835-1842) and spent a couple more years associated with the Miami conference. He was noted as being absent from the conference in 1846 & 1847. Benjamin & Catherine had sold a parcel of their land holdings in Clinton Co. OH in 1846 - the same year that Martha KIGER had married William GRIFFIN. John E. KIGER was married late in 1848 in McLean Co. IL. It appears that the KIGER family had moved to Illinois circa 1847.

You may also want to review a copy of the will of William RAYLE of Fayette Co. PA. I have not seen the will, but found mention that it listed five children: "Sarah ROGERS wife of David, Mary MOORE wife of John, Noble, Ann KIGER wife of Jacob, Hannah RAYL." This in itself seems to confirm that Ann RAYLE was indeed the wife of Jacob KIGER.

In regards to "proof" confirming that Jacob Kiger's wife was in fact Ann Rayle I have been able to find is: in the 1820 census for Menallen Twp, Fayette Co, PA. Where a Jacob Kiger is listed immediately after William Rayle. William's count shows that our Ann is probably out of the household and her age fits into that of Jacob's wife.

It also shows a female of Mary's (Kiger-Wheaton)age and one other female who remains unaccounted for, besides Hannah.

I don't know about your hypothesis, but I have a little bit that may help you?

1. William R. Kiger's obit says he moved to OH with his family about 1825. If Mary "Polly" is his sister, she probably married Wm. Wheaton in OH sometime before 1829, when Nancy was born.

2. Go to the 1850 census where you found George & Sarah Kiger and Nancy and Zachariah Barnes in Bethel, Monroe Co. On the next page you will find Jacob Kiger, father of William R. and George Kiger. His first wife Ann (Nancy) Rayl died in 1842 and I believe he remarried a Catherine and had a stepson James Colvin. I am working on that.

Thank You Kay and Joan, where ever she is. Anyhow. I have lot more data on the family since I was heling Joan years ago. I have worked and reworked all of the cenus data, obit, etc for the Kiger family from Ohio to Kansas. They travel there with some cousins in the 1880s. Even in later generations, one of them made it big, and became a know minister and later president of Boston University. Anyhow. Some of the family stayed in Illinois, I believe, and the rest went on to Kansas. Most of the Yakeys went to Texas, and are know as undertakers today. Anyhow, I have quit posting data as some people do not respond as they are afraid of what will happen to their info. I have lots more and if someone wants to share, that is finel Thank YOu Chas.
True. But it appears that George and Sarah may have made the distinction. In the 1850 census, it appears that both names were given to different daughters. Here I'm guessing that "Nany" is either a baby's nickname for "Nancy" or a poorly written version. Though it's impossible to say for sure as so little is really known about this family, it is worthy of note.

1850 US Census: OHIO, Monroe Co. Bethel Twp.
KIGER, George: 29, m, Farmer, PA
Sarah: 26, f, OH
Mary C: 5, f, OH
Ann M: 3, f, OH
Nany E: 5m, f, OH

Re: Lydia Annis Rodgers and John Wesley Kiger/Ky

I think that you have confused what I believe to be the two wives of John Wesley KIGER [1855-1898]. The Illinois marriage index shows that he married Lydia A. WARFORD, 3 Aug 1878, Clark Co. IL. Their daughter Lillie was born 11 May 1879 in Clark Co. IL, but at the time of the 1880 census, John was married to Delia ROGERS/RODGERS and living with his sister Ida in Clark Co. IL - though I haven't been able to locate daughter Lillie in the 1880 census.

1880 US Census: ILLINOIS, Clark Co. Wabash Twp.
KIGER, John: self, w, m, 25, M, Farmer, IL, f-IN, m-IN
Delia: wife, w, f, 30, M, Keeping House, IL, f-IN, m-IN
Ida: sister, w, f, 12, S, At Home, IL, f-IN, m-IN

*****************

Lillie does show in later census records that her mother was from Kentucky. The best match that I could locate for a possible Lydia WARFORD are the following census records - though the first name is not the same...... maybe a nickname? I don't know. You might want to check the burial records in Clark Co. IL and see if you can find a match there. You might want to also check Lillie's death certificate and see if any additional information is given. Lillie E. STACY died 18 May 1937 in Edgar Co. IL. And you might also see if you can locate a marriage record for Lillie and see if it lists the names of her parents. I haven't found anything for her yet - though she was twice married. And maybe Lillie's obituary will offer more information. Anyway, I've wondered if Lydia Annis might be "Lou A."?

1860 US Census: KENTUCKY, Bath Co.
Re: Elizabeth Marsee, wife of George Harmon Kiger

It now seems that George had married two MARSEE sisters, Sarah Ann and Elizabeth. George had first married Sarah Ann MARSEE on 18 Oct 1872 in Texas Co. MO.

And Sarah Ann's sister, Elizabeth MARSEE had first married Henry H. MONEY on 7 Jan 1868 in Knox Co. KY.

But....... it seems that Henry MONEY and Sarah Ann (Marsee) KIGER had both died (probably in Texas Co. MO) sometime before the 14th of April 1878 - as that is when and where George KIGER had married Elizabeth (Marsee) MONEY.

So, this information seems to indicated then that Robert, Jacob and Charles were the sons of George and Sarah Ann MARSEE - and that Joseph and Thomas were the sons of George and Elizabeth MARSEE.

Hi, Chas-

I'm still here! updated info may be posted on the KIGER board any time. It's a great way to make the information searchable and make contact with others searching the same KIGER line--in this case the Amanda Township KIGERs.

Joan

I have a note in my records (but don't have proof) that Bazil Gordon KIGER is the son of George KIGER listed as 77 years old on the 1850 census in Stafford County, VA. In 1850 George's wife is listed as Sarah age 65--I have no knowledge of whether Sarah is Bazil's mother or a later wife of George. There is a Sarah A. KIGER, age 26 on the census listing with them. My notes show that Bazil Gordon KIGER married in Warren Co., MS, in Oct. 1846 to Caroline J. GWIN.

Joan

Hi Scott
I am also related to the Amstutz Family by Marriage and Eureka is my Husbands grandmother. I have A LOT of information on both sides and would definately be willing to share. I must note that in no way can I confirm the info that I have, I have gathered it from others in the family who have bits and pieces but on all accounts it seems factual and something very interesting to pass on in my legacy to my children.
Here is my EMAIL direct - just send me your email and I will put together some info I have in WORD docs and email them your way! Please help me out too- I have yet to meet someone so close to the Kiger side so it is very interesting.
KAM0900@sbcglobal.net
