More on Alvin KILBURN b.c. 1791, USA (VT?) via QUE to Whitby, ON, m. Tryphena MARSH - connected to BROOKS family - UEL?

Hello,

Looking for more info on Alvin KILBURN - possibly a UEL he was born in the US, possibly VT, was in QUE, CANADA for birth of some children (conflicting info here but suggests he migrated to Whitby Twp., Ontario Co., ON, CANADA around 1830, definitely by 1852. He died bet 1852-Apr 1858, in prob. Whitby Twp., ON, CANADA. He married Tryphena MARSH - bc Jun 1799, d. 13 Jan, 1889, Toronto, York Co., ON, CANADA. She was the d/o William and Anna (HUNTINGTON) MARSH (NOT to be confused with William and **ELIZABETH** (HUNTINGTON) MARSH, the Rev. and father of Israel MARSH, also Minister in Whitby - the two Williams are cousins who perhaps married sisters).

The KILBURN (KILBORN/KILBOURN, etc.) family appears closely connected to the BROOKS family that was in Whitby bef 1837 - any info on them as well would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Andrew

Descendants of Alvin KILBURN

1 Alvin KILBURN	1792 - 1852
.. +Tryphena MARSH	1799 - 1889
........	2 Amy FULLER	1801 - 1852
........	2 Clarissa KILBURN	1820 - 1846
........	2 Anna Ann KILBURN	1826 - 1905
............ +Joshua BROOKS	1821 - 1896
...................	3 Hannah E.
Re: Phebe KILBURN Edward J. FRENCH

Phebe KILBURN is NOT a KILBURN, she is Phebe HAWLEY

I do not know where the name "Pheobe KILBORN" was determined by Richard FRENCH (researcher, rootsweb) but my reading of *original* baptismal documents *clearly* shows the daughter is of Edward Jewett FRENCH with wife Phebe HAWLEY. Now perhaps she was remarried (first a KILBORN, then a HAWLEY) but then she wouldn't be called "Phebe Hawley French". Furthermore in census and other records she is all but surrounded by other HAWLEYs - indicating possible connections with Ephraim and Amos HAWLEY as they too appear at the marriage of Horace FRENCH, for example, likely a cousin to Edward Jewett FRENCH.

Note though that their first child is named James KILBORN FRENCH so there IS a KILBORN connection here somewhere, just doubtful it's Phebe, herself, perhaps her mother?

Source - Drouin Collection of Vital Records of Quebec - see attached

http://content.ancestry.ca/iexec/?htx=View&r=5543&db...
My wife's mother was a Kilburn and this line was from the NY/VT border area. I have traced this line back to Dana H. Kilburn, b. VT c. 1789, but then I am stymied. I will be very glad to share, and I sure hope someone knows where Dana H. came from. John McCarty, bjmacc15@yahoo.com.

Someone on RootsChat was asking what the connection was between George Kilburn and George Catterick. Apparently George Kilburn was living with George Catterick and Mary Catterick, his mother in Scruton in 1861 & 1871 censuses.I have found a marriage of George Catterick to Jane Kilburn at Leeds Registered Office in 1860 so perhaps this might help someone. My connection is through the Catterick family.

April,
I have a Phineas Kilbourn in my family. He is listed in the
1855 census for Leon, Cattaraugus County, NY. I can't tell how he is related, but my grandfather was Gleason Sheldon, and his maternal grandfather was Gleason Kilburn.
Phineas was married to Mercy Gleason. I have lost track of Phineas, so I don't know where he is buried or his date of death.
There is also a Cicero Kilburn who died during the Civil War. Several Kilburns are buried in Leon, at Treat Memorial Cemetery. A good source for Cattaraugus County, NY information is paintedhills.org.
Valarie Kane
