Re: B.F. Killingsworth

My grandfather's name was B.F. Killingsworth (Bernie Francis). He was originally from Shelby County before moving to Birmingham in the early part of 1900. He would have been born in the late 1800's. He married Alma Armstong (I believe the wedding was in Calera). They had 3 children: Margaret Frances, who died of influenza in 1918, William Robert, born 1916-died 2004 (my father) and Quenton (who was younger than my father and died sometime in the mid to late 1980's. My grandfather's parents died when he was a child. His older sister apparently tried to take care of him, but for some reason he went to live and work on a Shelby County farm owned by the Baileys (there was a girl about my grandfather's age named "Lucy Bailey". Do you think this is "your" BF Killingsworth?

Wildlilly thank you for replying. My line comes from Elza Beckett Garner. Elza married Mary Kinzer in KY. She died and he moved to MO where he married Belle Brenegar. I found their marriage on familysearch.org. That is about all I have found on Belle. Elza is buried in Dawes Cem Chelsea OK. Belle's name is on the headstone, but she is buried in Yukon OK. Belle was living with a Daughter Mary in Bethany Ok when she died. Mary married a William Johnson. Nothing else on Mary. I do have all the childrens name from the census.
Where does your line come from.
Betty Parks

Jesse Killingsworth is buried on the property of my ex-wife's family in Eastover, South Carolina. We always wondered who he was. The grave is the finest and one of the most unusual I have ever seen. It is very elaborate and sits under vines in the woods. I can print a mapquest map of the location and email it to you, if you wish. If you ever wish to visit the site, I would meet you there.
Donald.Shields@csisteel.com

I would love to get together too on our families. It took me so many years to even find anything on my Garner family, as My Grandfather Walter Ray Garner was killed and the family keep all the secrets hid until a couple of our Uncles were on there death beds and told my cousin what really happened to him. I guess my Mom knew, but she came me a silly story about his disappearnce. Does my email address come up? How can we get connected with our family info? You must be wintering in AZ. We usually go to TX for about 2 or 3 months in the winter, but we are taking care of our 2 Granddaughters in Bartlesville, OK. Let me know?
Betty

Hi Barbara Thanks for the reply. I had to go back and review my email. I wrote JOhn Killingsworth Garner was my Great GFather, but he was really my Great Great Grandfather.
My line is from Barbara Leann Garner's Brother Elza Beckett Garner. Elza had a Son Walter Ray Garner. He was my Grandfather. His Daughter Goldie Mae Garner Grigsby was my MOther.
I have actually found a lot about the GArner family since my last email. I found Nancy Hopkins Beckett, Barbara Leann Garner and Alber Vincent's cem and have pictures of their headstones. John Killingsworth is not buried at the same Cem, but buried a few miles away. I didn't get to his cem yet.
I went to Koshonong MO Library and the lady working there, her Husband was there and they were related to the Garner Vincent family. I have been emailing their Daughter for about 2 years. A lot that I have found has been on the internet.
Please let me know what you need, maybe I have the info. You can email me privately.
Thanks
Betty Parks

Hi, I'm Jean and I'm also researching the Kemp line. I'm currently on Andrew Jackson Kemp Born 1870, Married to Jennie Lee Summers Born 1876, their children according to Jefferson County, AL census of 1900 were: Grace, Jessie, Willie & Tomy. This matches my family records and later there would be another child named Leon. It may be the Andrew Jackson Kemp you're refering to, could be the father or grandfather to the one I'm researching. It is believed the original fought in the War with Andrew Jackson in Louisianna and the family now uses the name to Honor Col Jackson. Let me know if this helps or matches with your info... Jean

I believe you are correct that this is a son of Freeman KW. 'Old Huntsville' magazine also lists his burial at Nelson Chapel:
http://www.oldhuntsville.com/cem_nelson_chapel.cfm

They list Killingsworth Cove separately, and [oddly] there are no Killingsworths buried there.

Did you take a picture- if so could you post it?
I have been searching for Killingsworth relatives and went to the cemetery where I found a John T who was born 1765 and died 1820. He is buried at Nelson Chapel cem.in Madison Co. Al. This is confusing with all the postings of a John T. One site has him listed as the son of Freeman but others say he is burid elsewhere. He is buried at Killingsworth Cove, a beautiful place.

Hi again,
Thanks for writing back. Looks like we are cousins. I am in Arizona for the winter and would love to write you about all the information I have on the families. I have been researching for over 15 years and have lots of information from other family memebers in Missouri, Kentucky etc. I hope we can get to gether on facts. I know some things have been found to be wrong. But when I got documents, that sure changed lots of things. There are several sites I could direct you to. Sincerely, Barbara

Her family goes back to the Sowder family and Josiah Beckett. They had my great grandmother Barbry Garner and she married James Albert Vincent Jr. They had 9 children and one was my grandfather Thomas Henry Vincent. They had my father John Edgar Vincent and then I can along. Would be interested in what you have found in your search and might be able to help you.
Barbara Vincent Johnson

John T. Killingsworth, son of Freeman is buried at Haglers Mill near North Port, tuscaloosa Co., AL.

John T. Killingsworth, the Revolutionary Soldier, son of John. He was a land owner in Madison Co. AL. Killingsworth Cove was named for him. At this time it is unknown exactly where this John is buried. The DAR requested that a plaque and tombstone be installed. They located the land of the Madison County, John Killingsworth and as there was a cemetery close by, they set the stone there. (They never dreamed that someday something like the computer would afford easy genealogical research and that this would cause such problems.)

Neither of these men is John "The Drummer" Killingsworth.

I am searching for any information I can find regarding Killingsworth families who associated with Presley Garner who owned a ferry at the Wateree River in Richland County, South Carolina.

He was born ca 1750 and died ca 1730s (working from memory here). Presley married Betsy Avent in Greensvile County, VA in 1786.

Also I am interested in knowing if the Killingsworths knew John Garner who received a land grant in that same area in the late 1700s.
