Hi again Bob,

I took another look through my Kilroy files, but I don't find anything related to any of those Kilroys. I don't have a marriage record for John Kilroy and Catherine Cassidy, which is odd. I know I haven't collected every single Kilroy in Boston, but I thought I had many of them.
And I also have nothing about the Malden Kilroys. I stuck pretty much to the Kilroys in Boston unless I could trace a particular family from Boston to the surrounding area. Sorry we didn't find a connection and that I could not be of more help.

Do you want me to answer the other Kilroy posts you posted in greater detail or are you no longer interested in them since they cannot be linked (at least not so far) to your Kilroys? Good luck in your search.

Judy

Judy,

Thanks for the input & sorry for any confusion I may have caused. The Patrick Kilroy who served served in the RIC in Woodford, County Galway is the only Kilroy in the Woodford area per Griffiths. I got his County Roscommon enlistment date off ancestry.com. That is all I know about him.

My Patrick Kilroy say he immigrated in 1860 from Woodford, Galway so I can't help wondering if there is a connection (cousin, uncle, ??) between these two men.

My Patrick's 1908 Boston death certificate does not identify his parents.

Also, when my Patrick Kilroy left the Army in 1868, he returned to Boston and moved in with a John Kilroy (May 1844 - March 1921) and his family. John's parents were James Kilroy & Cecelia ? and his wife was a Catherine Cassidy. John Kilroy deserted from the 11th MA Infantry in December 1862. Both John and James used the same 4 names for their children. So this, plus the two families sharing a house in 1868 & 1869 make me suspect they are closely related. John went west in the 1870s and worked his way to Los Angeles by 1900.

You are mostly right about Patrick's children:
John born in March 1868 in Brooklyn, NY (Dad is in the Army)
James (My GGF) born October 1869 in Boston. Died 1945
Mary born in June 1871. Married Ambrose Kelly
Cecelia Born in Septembr 1876. Unmarried in 1920
William born in April 1875 died in June 1876

Jsmes (my GGF) married Annie Mitchell in 1892. The marriage record is wrong. Mary Glennon was Annie's mother's maiden name. This confused me for awhile.

My second Kilroy mystery is that my Patrick Kilroy's civil war pension file contains a 1908 statement from a John Kilroy (1841 - 1917) of Malden, MA who knew Patrick and his recent widowed wife since "they were of marriage age". This John Kilroy Married Margaet Hayes in Medford, MA in 1869. John served in the 11th MA Infantry (1861 - 1863) and then the Veteran Reserve Corps (1863 - 1865) in the Civil War. John's parents were Michael Kilroy and Catherine Mahone. I don't know his relation (if any) to my Patrick.

Any further info/help is appreciated.

Hello Bob,

I can't fit your Patrick Kilroy into my Kilroys. If he was born around 1840, he was born too early to fit into one generation and too late to fit into another.

Aren't his parents' names listed on his Massachusetts death certificate? And if Patrick served in the RIC in 1849, how could he be born around 1840? Or is the RIC Patrick his father? The RIC file should also give his year of birth or age at enlistment.

I do have your Patrick Kilroy in my files, married to Margaret Creigan. The first child I have listed is James born around 1870 in Boston and married to Mary Glennon in 1892, also in Boston. The next child I have is Mary born around 1872 in Boston, who married Ambrose Kelly in Boston in 1892. There are also possibly John born around 1868 and Celia born around Sept. 1881 in Massachusetts.

Sorry there doesn't seem to be a connection, at least from the information currently available.

Judy

Patrick Kilroy gives his year of birth as 1837, 1838 and 1840 in his civil war pension file applications. His 1865 Regular Army enlistment papers imply 1840.

Patrick married Margaret Craigan in Brooklyn NY in Feb 1868 while he was still in the Army.

Patrick died on 1/1/1908 in Boston.

Again, I'm not sure who his parents were.

Hi Judy,

Do you have any information on Patrick and Catherine nee Mollay/Molloy who were born approx. 1820 in Ireland? Had one daughter named Bridget who went by Delia who was born Jan. 07, 1844. Not certain on any of the other children. Bridget immigrated to the U.S. approx. in the late 1860s. Lived in Everett for thirty years on Florence St. A Patrick Kilroy was a pallbearer at her husband, Benj. F. Gowell's funeral in 1904. May have been a brother. Just wondering if you see this family in your files. There is one possible family that jumps out on the 1860 and 1870 Roxbury/Boston Highlands, respectively that might be an option. Patrick and Ann Kilroy. Pg. number 505 on the 1860 Roxbury census.

Thank you,

Maureen Ann

I am seeking information on the following family:

Bridget Kilroy born in Ireland on Jan. 7, 1844 to Patrick and Catherine nee Mollay/Molloy Kilroy who were also born in Ireland. She immigrated to the U.S./ Boston (?) at approximately age 27 according to her Massachusett's death certificate. She died on Dec. 29, 1921 in Everett, Mass. where she resided on Florence St. for almost 30 years. She married Benjamin F. Gowell the IV, Civil war veteran. Noted in his death notice of 1904 was mention of a pallbearer, Patrick Kilroy. Not certain how or if he was related to Bridget Kilroy Gowell. She and Benj. are both buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, Mass. They attended the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Everett. She went by the first name of Delia. Later attended Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.

I have succeeded in getting much of my family genealogy but the Kilroy/Hayes family is difficult. My great grandfather's name was John Kilroy.
He was a soldier in the civil war and we have much information regarding
that. His father was Michael and I believe he did not emigrate to US. We heard that John had a brother down south and some records say they were from Galway, Ireland. John settled in Boston and raised a large family there. His wife was Margaret Hayes. She was a good bit younger
than him from what I can figure. Her parents were Declan Hayes and Mary Geary. I would like to know exactly where they came from in Ireland but that escapes me. Any information or tie-in would be great.
Kelly,I have been researching my Kilroy line for 14yrs my great great grandfather was William Kilroy, my great great grandmother Margaret Cunniff they left Co. Mayo (we think Aghamore or Ballyhaunis) in 1826 to come to London where they married. Re your enquiry as to the name's origin, it is Mac Goilla Ruaidh and the sept or clan originates in Co. Fermanagh in Ballymacilroy near Lisnaskea where they were 'tanaistes' to the leading family of the Maguires I do hope that this helps John

My John Kilroy was born in Ireland c. 1869, was in Maryland before the 1880 Census, but there were other Kilroys in Baltimore County, Maryland before then that may be relatives. Let us know how you know he was born in Maryland, and whether the 1850 date is a firm date. Also, the names of his children can be a clue to the names of his sibling and/or parents, so that would also help

John (born 1869 in Ireland) was my g grandfather, but Peter (c. 1877 in Maryland?) and Margaret (c. 1879 in Maryland) seem to disappear by the 1900 census, as do Mike & Kate, their parents. I am looking for anyone who may have connections to these people.

Thanks for any help at all! What I know for sure... He was buried in Centreville MS. His middle initial was M (John M Kilroy). The oldest proven census record I have is from 1880.
His confirmed 1880 census in Wilkinson MS, lists the following.
John Kilroy 28 , Born Maryland, Farmer
Allice Kilroy 32
Allmer N. Kilroy	4
Walter Kilroy 3
(Mar. 4, 1876 – Nov. 17, 1913, buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Centreville, MS)
Bessie Kilroy	9M (listed as reference on JC Kilroy WWI Registration Card)

He married Rebeccah Allice Hughes on 26 Mar 1874 in Wilkinson MS. He had another son John Collins Kilroy (Sr) 21April 1882 – 29 Dec 1919
Buried Oaklawn Cemetery Centreville MS. John Collins Kilroy married Martha Melissa Coon
I am not sure of where he was born. On some of the census records he lists Maryland as his birth place. He listed his parents some of the time as his father being from Ireland and his mother from Maryland. I have also seen where he listed his parent birthplace as being unknown. I also have found where one person believes he may be the John Kilroy from New Jersey. I believe truly believe that he was from Maryland. I would really like to know if I have any more relatives out there. Kilroy is a relatively rare last name- I know most of us have to be related. I would love to hear from my extended extended family.
Thanks so much!
Kyle Kilroy
What little I have is as follows: A death certificate for Bridget (Delia) Kilroy Gowell which lists her parents as being Patrick and Catherine Molloy/Mollay Kilroy. Bridget was born in Ireland on January 7, 1844. Arrived in the U.S. at age 27. I see a family on the Roxbury 1860 census that might be hers. page 505 Parents Patrick and Ann Kilroy. A brother Patrick is listed. When Bridget's husband died in Everett in 1904, there was a pallbearer with the same name.

Judy,

My GGGF Patrick Kilroy's 1868 citizenship application states that he is from Woodford in Galway. Per Griffith's 1855 Valuation of County Galway, the senior Royal Irish Constable (RIC) of Looscaun (2 miles from Woodford) is a Patrick Kilroe. The RIC database states that Patrick Kilroe enlisted from County Roscommon in 1849. At that time, the British government required RIC members to serve away from their hometowns to avoid corruption issues. This explaind a Roscommon Kilroy living in Galway.

I do not know my GGGF's parents names. The man I think is Patrick's brother is the son of James Kilroy & Cecelia ?? (Not 100% sure tho.)

Any help/clarification you can give me would be appreciated.

Bob

Judy,
My name is bob Kilroy. I read your April 19, 2006 posting.
I grew up in Boston and am descended from James Kilroy (son of Patrick Kilroy - from County Galway and Margaret Craigan - from ?) and Anne Mitchell (daughter of Patrick Mitchell and Mary Glennon - both from the SW corner of County Roscommon). I am very curious about your reference to a marriage twixt James Kilroy and Mary Glennon. Kilroy family tradition refers to a Kilroy/Glennon match but I have never found them. My 85 year old aunt is pretty sure she met this Mary Glennon at her grandfather's, James' 1945 Boston funeral. Can you provide me with any information on this James Kilroy and Mary Glennon.
Also I am trying to research two Kilroy families who lived in Jamacia Plain circa 1900. Lawrence and Mary Kilroy and James and Bridget Kilroy. Both couples seem to just disappear after 1900.
Thankyou very much in advane for any help you can provide.

Bob Kilroy

An Anthony Kilroy and his wife, Honor Brady, gave birth to a son named Pat Kilroy in 1839 in Cloonan(e), Islandeady, County Mayo. Some 20 years later, Pat married Catherine Graven, also of Islandeady. Catherine was the daughter of Michael Graven and Mary Walsh, and she was born on February 14, 1840. Pat and Catherine had a daughter named Mary Kilroy, born in about 1860. Mary Kilroy was my wife's grandmother, and Mary was married to John Rogers in Milton, Massachusetts, in around 1900. They moved to Rye, NY, shortly after that.

Hello again Bob,

I have several Patricks in my files, but I have no way of checking yours against them since you have not given any dates or places for your Patrick.

So, if you want to give me your Patrick's year of birth (or approximate), date of marriage and wife's name, where they lived in the US, year of death, etc., I can look for a match.

I am pretty sure that I don't have any James Kilroy married to a Cecelia either in Ireland or Boston, which is where many of the Kilroys settled.

All the other Kilroys mentioned in your other Kilroy posts are related. The John who married Bridget Brooks and the Lawrence who married Mary Keogh were brothers. The James J. Kilroy of "Kilroy was here" was a grandson of John Kilroy and Bridget Brooks.

Judy

Hi cousin,
Yes, I have lots of info about our Barney Kilroy/Brannan ancestor and his descendants. And am more than glad to share with you. My grandmother was Anna Brannan - the sixth child of his third marriage. Your grandfather, “Frank” Brannan, was the 9th child of this same marriage. That makes us second cousins. Please send me your contact info.
Bob O'Brien
Email: bpob@cox.net

Re: Kilroys of St.Clair County, MI

Hi Leo, was surprised to get a response from someone. Do you have a direct connection with Fr. Kilroy? My ggrandmother Margaret (Kilroy) Fitzgerald used to go to Canada (possibly Windsor) to visit relatives so I knew there were Kilroys there, but didn't know how to find them. I have Fr. Kilroy being the brother to Kiernan Kilroy. My gggrandfather was John Kilroy and his brother was Patrick Kilroy (m. Bridget Summers), sister was Bridget Kilroy (m. to a Murphy). You can email me directly at m_danelle@yahoo.com. I have more information. Under the St. Clair County site, Fr. Kilroy married numerous people as can be seen in the marriages part of the site. I don't have any information on Lyons, but hopefully we can compare Kilroy information.
