T.W. Kimber, Nathaniel Kimber & Samuel Kimber, Michigan 1880

Looking for anyone who can expand on my research into the Kimber families living in Brady Township (Twp) and Schoolcraft Township, Kalamazoo County, Michigan from 1842-1900.
Samuel Kimber born about 1807 in New Jersey married Susan Jane Schoonover on 24 October 1858 in Brady Twp. They had 3 children: Maria (1860), Derius (1862) and Sarah (1865) Kimber and also adopted a child named Clayton Randall (1875).
Nathaniel Kimber born about 1819 in New Jersey married Rebecca Schoonover on 7 May 1842 in Comstock, Brady Twp, MI. They had 2 children: Juliette (1843) and Samuel N. (1857) Kimber.
T. W. Kimber was associated with laying out the plat for Schoolcraft Twp in the 1880's along with Nathaniel. TOWNSHIP OF SCHOOLCRAFT
(Source: History of Kalamazoo County, Michigan; Durant, Samuel W., 1880)
Village Plat and Additions
It is said that John Vickers at one time caused a village plat to be made here, and gave it the name of Vicksburg, but no record was ever made of it, and the statement is not authenticated. However, lots were sold to various parties, and the owners, when a survey was finally made and recorded, became nominally proprietors. The original plat of the village of Brady - Hugh Finlay proprietor - was acknowledged Sept. 17, 1849, the following additional names appearing on the acknowledgment: Bradley S. Williams, Nathaniel J. Kimber, T.W. Kimber, Samuel Hawkins, Jabez G. Rice (by John J. Rice, attorney). This portion of the village is located on the southeast quarter of Section 13, town 4 south, range 11 west.
I believe that the first Samuel and Nathaniel Kimber were brothers. The relationship of T J. Kimber is unknown. The parentage of all are unknown. The Schoonover women were sisters from Stillwater, Sussex County, New Jersey.
I have documented the Schoonover families, however, still need to find details on all of these Kimber families.
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide, Bob Schoonover, Email: schoony@comcast.net

Thanks for the reply post. We'd like to find out more. My wife's father was Harry Earl Kimber. The tree we have been working on we don't have a Jim Kimber listed. The tree referenced in our original post didn't either. It's possible this could be a branch off from the tree we've been working on.

Any more information you'd care to share would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dear Karl Kimber

I think there were other Wandsworth Kimber families to which I haven't found any connection. But reference my posting 10 Sept 08, "my" John Herbert Kimber 1870 was a stableman working for a hackneycab man. I don't know that Alfred, as in George Alfred, in your posting was a family name. My George Kimber 1894 and John? Herbert Kimber 1898 were born at Chelsea according to the 1901 Census.

Sorry for the delay. This was sent on Nov 5 but did not get posted. Perhaps something to do with the link between this forum and kimber@rootsweb.

best regards - David Webb
Re: KIMBER in Worcestershire, UK

Susan,

I was just about to write you again saying that I was fairly sure that "my" Kimber family is the same as yours, when I thought I would first make a phone call - to Norman Kimber - and now I know this for sure. In fact, he tells me that you have been in contact with him.

I should say that Norman and my mum were good friends when they were about 16-17, and they didn't marry but her uncle (my grandma's brother) and his sister did, which is the family connection for me.

George Kimber was Norman's grandfather. I have a photo of George's shop in Leigh Sinton with another of his grandchildren standing in front. I didn't enquire about George's wife Kizziah but I wonder if she may have been Kate Isabella Efemy or Effemy who married George Henry Kimber in Portsea Apr-Jun 1896.

However, I can tell you that Joe married Kate Evans on 6 November 1915 at Broadheath, and that he gave his age as 29. I have a date of birth for Joe of 12 May and the year of either 1886 or 1896, and 1886 matches the age given at marriage. So this casts considerable doubt on my Kate Isabella Effemy notion, unless she was perhaps a second wife. There are George Henry Kimber marriages in Portsea in 1864/69/80 as well, but perhaps your George was not George Henry anyway.

Can I assume that you have quizzed Norman about this? By the way, he asks if you made contact with the other Kimbers he told you about, from Gloucester I think he said.

Does this get us anywhere?

Best wishes,

Nigel

Hello, thanks for your reply re George. I have looked at your Kimber family several times, but I know my George & Kizziah had 2 sons born c1886 & c1890 Joseph & Henry, they were also living in Worcester. I was told that my George was a drover travelling to Wales a lot & that he was well known for dancing with beels on his toes! could be morris dancing I suppose, would any of that apply to your George? kizziah died 1930 George 1938.
Hello Nigel, yes I know Norman quite well, he is my mothers cousin. When my grandmother died mum was only about 4 years old and she went to live with Norman's family for several years. I have been in touch with the people in Gloucester, they have a big database of Kimbers, I sent all the deatils I have but so far have not received a response, they have a son with MS who needs a lot of care & so it may be some time before I hear from them.
I have death certificates for Kizziah,George, Joseph & Henry & marriage cetificates for Joseph & Henry. Kizziah & George appear to have been born about 1864 & Joe about 1886. My grandfather gave a different age on each document I have for him but I believe he was born about 1890, he celebrated his birthday on 19th September. Joe's was 12th May. Despite having all this information I have been unable to find any of the family in a census or bmd indexes. You mentioned George Henry - is the second name one someone has told you? Everything I have heard so far has only related to a George Kimber, no mention of Henry - but of course one of his sons was named Henry. I have looked at the marriage index for George & Kate which I found with no problem, but I was unable to locate them in the 1901 census, have you looked for them there yet? Anything you can add would be great, I have been looking for the Kimbers for several years so far with no luck! Sue

Hello Joan, I know very little about the Kimbers in my line, the earliest one I have is my great grandfather George who would have been born about 1864. I have been unable to find birth registrations for either of his sons or a marriage for him & Kizziah, nor have I been able to find the family on any census. The only thing I can say about the family for sure is that they were living in Hereford from 1915, George, Kizziah & Joseph died there, my grandfather Henry died in Nottingham. I know nothing of their lives prior to 1915 but am still looking. Sue

Hello, I have been looking for information on George Kimber for several years, he was my great grandfather. George lived in Leigh Sinton Worcestershire from 1915, he died in 1938 his age is given as 74, his wife Kizziah Kimber committed suicide in 1930 when she was 66. it seems that they were both born around 1864. To date I have been unable to find birth records for Joseph or his brother Henry (my grandfather) or a marriage record for George & Kizziah. I have recently taken early retirement & now have plenty of time for research, I jave just demolished a 'brick wall' on my father's side & now intend giving the Kimbers my full attention. It is quite a while since you posted your request for info. are you still interested in the Kimbers? sue

George & Kizziah Kimber

These are my great grandparents & they are proving very difficult to find pre 1915. They both would have been born around 1864 had two sons Joseph 1886 & Henry 1889, I can find no references to the births of either son, or a marriage between George & Kizziah, the family are also not on any census. George spoke of being born in Portsmouth or Southampton, he was at some point a drover & is known to have travelled to Wales regularly. They settled in Leigh Sinton Worcs sometime after the 1901 census, were definitely there by 1915. They ran a small shop in the village and lived the rest of their lives there. Following Kizziah's death in 1930, Joseph took his young family to Wales to visit her sister known only as 'Aunt Suranne'. I have spent several years trying to get past this 'brick wall' so any help would be gratefully received. Sue

Kimber's in Minisink

Years ago, someone sent me the following land record. Richard Farr was my 4th G-GF, and just on a whim, I was wondering if there was any possible family association between my Farr's and the Kimber's. Richard's wife Elizabeth was a member of the church at Wawayanda, possibly a Kimber?

ORANGE COUNTY, NEW YORK - - Deed, dated March 9, 1793, between John Kimber and Joseph Kimber of the Town of Minisink (Deed Book J, Page 181)
RICHARD FARR and John Conner were witnesses when John Kimber sold 100 acres to Joseph Kimber in the Patent of Wawayanda, at the edge of the Drownded lands, near a place called Goose Neck. This deed was not recorded in Orange County records until November 11, 1805, when Richard Farr was at that time residing in the province of Upper Canada. The record has the following notation:

"On 11th Nov. 1805, Richard Farr, one of the subscribing witnesses to the execution of deed says that he saw John Kimber execute said deed & he was well acquainted with John Kimber & knew him to be the person described as Grantor. Also at same time appeared David Cooley Jun. of Orange County says he is acquainted with Richard Farr, who formerly resided in Orange Co. but now resides in province of Upper Canada. Also appeared Thomas Ward of Washington, Seneca Co. says that he is well acquainted with David Cooley Jun."

Signed by Elijah Miller, a Master in Chancery for State of New York.
Record entered 16th Dec. 1805.
We've recently began searching in earnest for my wife's father. We have been successful in locating that info, but as always any other info would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to contact the person that submitted the following tree http://awtc.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&db=:150... in order to update some of the information on our side. The email listed is evidently not valid.

Going through some of these posts, it's possible that the information in the above tree could be useful, as it goes back into the 1760's in England. Would love to hear from anyone that this helps.

This is an as yet, to me, open-ended branch of the Kings Somborne-Southampton Kimbers.

best regards - David Webb
Kimber - Schoonover Connection, Stillwater, NJ to Comstock, MI.

Seeking relatives of Nathaniel Kimber, age 60-69, who appeared on the 1830 Census in Stillwater, Sussex County, New Jersey. Within the family unit he had 1 son age 10-14 and 1 son age 40-49 (1819-?) and 1 daughter age 20-29, therefore, it appears that he was the father of a son age 40-49, a daughter-in-law age 20-29 and a grandson age 10-14. It appears that his son, assuming the same name of Nathaniel Kimber, later married Rebecca Schoonover on 7 May 1842 in Comstock, Kalamazoo County, Michigan. It also appears that Nathaniel's son or brother, Samuel Kimber (1807-1890), married a younger sister of Rebecca Schoonover named Susan Jane Schoonover on 24 October 1858 in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.
I have the descendents of these Nathaniel and Samuel Kimber's who married the Schoonover sisters, however, I need to confirm the Kimber ancestry. Anyone who knows this ancestry, please reply.
Robert Schoonover, Email: Schoony@comcast.net.

Hi, Sue

I'm searching for my Kimber's and maybe you and Nigel can help.

I don't really know where they originated. I thought Wimborne Minster in Dorset, but a lady that works at the Dorset History Centre did a search at some of the parishes and couldn't find them.

I'm looking for any information on a Robert Kimber ca early 1800's. He had one son that I know of, John William Kimber, b 15 Aug 1835? He married Louisa Eliza Attrill (maybe born on the Isle of Wight). I think they married in/around 1869. They had 5 children that I know of:

Ellen Sarah Rachel, ca 1865/66
Herbert George, ca 1868
Louisa Mary, ca 1868/69
Alpine William, 23 Jan 1871 (my great-grandfather)
Alfred Henry, ca 1873

I know that John William and his sons, Herbert, Alpine and Alfred, immigrated to the United States before 1900.

If you can't help me, could you please put me in touch with the people in Gloucester.

Thank you,

Joan (Kimber) Kinsall

Is Wimborne Minster in Wandsworth? If so maybe you have come across these Kimbers:

ggg grandfather - Robert Kimber
gg grandfather - John William Kimber married Louisa Eliza Attrill ca 1869 (parents William Attrill and Mary Ann Hayden or Miller). I believe the Attrills were from the Isle of Wight. John and Louisa had 5 children I'm sure of and possibly 2 more.

aunt - Ellen Sarah Rachel Kimber - 1865(6)
uncle - Herbert George Kimber - 1868
aunt - Louisa Mary Kimber - 1868(9)
g grandfather - Alpine William Kimber 23 Jan 1871
uncle - Alfred Henry Kimber - 1873

Possibly:

Frederick Joseph - 1874
Lilian Florence - 1876

If Wimborne is not in Wandsworth do you know where it is? Is Wandsworth a county?

Thank you.

Re: Kimber's of Wandsworth

Hi I have only just started with researching my family so still early days. But there may be a match here. Most of the Kimbers that are on my tree are all around the Wandsworth and Battersea area. Ive got back as far as my great grandad who is George Alfred Kimber who for a while lived in Wandsworth with a John Kimber (his brother). Im not sure if this is a connection but will be intresting to hear your thoughts
