I would very much like to connect with someone about this family who can tell me more. John is listed on censuses as being born in Tenn, so is his brother (I believe) Berryman. Do not know if Ransom is a brother or a son of John's . Thank you for any information.

Grier,
While researching my Kimbrell line, I stumbled across some early grants just after the Rev. War. In Burke County GA near present day Sardis: Charles Kimbrel 250 acres 12/5/1785, Charles Kimbal 300 acres 3/7/1785 (on Beech Branch), Charles Kimbrel 200 acres 6/6/1786 (Paris Path runs through this piece), Charles Kimbrel 164 acres 4/26/1791 (near Boggy Gut), James Kimbrel 150 acres 11/5/1798, and Walker Kimbrel 250 acres 9/30/1798. In 1785, Mary Murry received 200 acres on Beech Branch, in trust for her husband John Murray. Mary Murray was a Kimball. This land was said to be 'in the fork of Boggy Gut and Panther Branch' Panther Branch has not been identified on any maps, however Beech Branch does fork off of Boggy Gut and Mary's plat clearly shows Beech Branch with 2 streams emptying into it. These streams are not named on the plat.

The 250 acres that Charles received 12/5/1785, was later sold to a Sanders Walker. This land was on Braswell's Branch on the eastern side of Briar Creek in Burke County. Sanders Walker amassed many hundred acres and sold them to Jones family to be a plantation. We know it today as Millhaven Plantation.

I still have not been able to tie my William Kimbrel b 1799 to any ancestors. I have his line down to me, but cannot bridge the gap to any of the Kimbrels that received land grants above. My guess is that Charles was the father to Walker and James and brother to Mary Murray. He was probably the father of my William because a piece of the land that Charles received, appears to be a piece that shows up later with Williams name on it. When William died in 1862, he had near 1000 acres of land in the same vicinity.

I find the name Walker Kimbrel interesting. A connection to the mentioned Sanders Walker? Rev. Jeremiah Walker? Ann Walker? Charles W. Kimbrel? There has to be a connection!

What do you think?

For now I will tell you my father's mother's name and through the Kimbrell line that I am aware of.

My Grandmother's name was Bartrella Perkins, daughter of Thomas Jefferson Perkins and Bessmae Kimbrel (Bessmae was born 12 Jun 1889 in Colmesneil, Tyler County, Texas and died in DeQuincy, Calcasieu Parish, LA on 6 May, 1966) who was daughter of Basil Kimbrel - born abt 1850 in Georgia and Elvira Miller - born about 1855 in Georgia. I have 1880, 1900 and 1910 census linking them - with them in Tyler County, TX in 1880, Jasper County, TX in 1900 and in DeQuincy, Calcasieu Parish, LA in 1910.

The rest of my information is kind of sketchy - tied to census information only. I found a Basil Kimbrel in the 1860 Miller County, GA Census as son of William and Ellen ? with other children's names - Andrew J (born abt 1851), W. C.(born about 1855), Lina (hard to read)(born about 1856), and Charles M (born about 1859)- all born in GA.

I then found a Basil Kimbrel in Miller County, GA 1870 census - a farm laborer - by himself

Basil was son of a William Kimbrel - born about 1821 in Georgia and Ellen ? - born about 1833 in Georgia. From sketchy census information, William Kimbrel could have been son of Charles W. Kimbrel born June 1795 and Rebecca ? born abt 1795.

Searching for James Walker Kimbrel family

I am attempting to locate information on my paternal grandfather James Walker Kimbrel (3/24/1870-6/7/1948). He married Ellen Virginia Ligon (2/24/1877-3/24/1949). The family originated in Southern Georgia, perhaps around Colquitt, and migrated to north Florida around 1900. He worked in the saw mill business. He and Ellen had 7 children, Walker, Virginia aka Dewey, Elvester (EV), Denver, Claude, Adelaide,& Winifred, in addition to Alma and Leah, both of whom passed away as children. A James Kimbrel, who was 10 at the time, was recorded in the 1880 census as being part of the household as a grandchild of Clarissa Rawls, who was the head of household, and located in Colquitt, Miller County, Georgia. I'm not certain if this is my grandfather but the age matches. Other household members were William, Franklin,Thomas, & Susan Rawls, shown as children of Clarissa Rawls, and Clara Kimbrel, also shown as a grandchild. Perhaps a daughter of Clarissa Rawls, but not shown as a household member, was the mother to James and Clara. Any help in piecing together this family tree will be greatly appreciated.
What do you know about John Kimbrell? My gggf was John Kimbrell, married Rhoda Rice on May 5, 1847 in Habersham Co., GA. I have never been able to confirm John's origins: I have him as John H., which corresponds to family stories, but there was just one John H. that seemed to possibly be mine, and there is confusion about whether he is an H. or and R. I'd always figured SC as origin, before the move to GA, but guess it COULD have been TN. Any help would be appreciated......Pat

Did you ever find the parents of Elias Harris?

I'm so frustrated at the inability of figuring out who MY John H. Kimbrell came from in SC, that I've started collecting anything on ALL the Kimbrell lines that jumped the border from SC to GA.......and family stories (what few I know since my dad didn't talk about his family all that much) say we are related to the Kimbrells who left Va for NC, SC, GA and then spread to AL, TN, KY, and points west......Pat
Need Help and Advice

This may be an unusual use of a message board, but here goes. I've been stumped with my gggf, John Kimbrell, SC to N. GA about 1820, married Rhoda Rice. I decided to just capture anything remotely relevant and see what clicked into place: finally, something has but I need to know if I'm seeing ghosts, or if you researchers out there (all with more experience than I have, I'm sure) feel I've made a good guess / connection.

I had found the parents of my ggf, Leonard C. Kimbrell (John and Rhoda) and their marriage certificate. That gave his middle initial as H. so I went with that. Because of this, I was at a dead-end: couldn't find a way back to his family across the border in SC. Just the other day, ANOTHER John ran across my research: John R. (SC to GA), father William (SC), grandfather LEONARD (NC). Leonard is a repeated name in my line and no-where else except occasionally in the MA/NH line way back when. Following that thought, I took a hard look at John R.: all the dates match and he DISAPPEARS from SC at the same time MY John appears in N. GA.

We all know how often transcribed records or a census taker have mistaken an initial or the spelling of a last name: to the transcriber, it looks like one thing, but different to someone else.

What I need to know is this: DO YOU THINK I would be justified, at least for the present, since everything seems to fit, in assuming that this is the correct line? If there are researchers out there on John R (William, Leonard, Benjamin A., William, Joseph in MA) who think I'm wrong, PLEASE let me know. If you think I'm justified ALSO let me know: I need to break the deadlock once and for all so I can move forward.

Email me at pkimbrellp@netscape.net.

Thanks.....and I really DO want input from EVERYONE!

I have quite a bit of information on the family of Alice Missouri Kimbrel. She was the half-sister of my GGGrandfather William Albert Kimbrel. I have information on her parents and her children that I have gathered over the years. Also, have you found the book written about Genery's Gap families? I believe that some of the information for that book on the Kimbrel family and other Genery's Gap families was provided by Alice Missouri Kimbrel Porter. If you have not seen it yet, you can find it at the Birmingham Public Library or order it from the publisher over the internet (which I did). I'd also be happy to share the information that I have compiled on your family if you email me at a.j.cool@att.net.

I am looking for my Grandmother, Alice Missouri Kimbrel's family. Alice married John William Porter , born about 1866 and she was born about 1877. I believe they lived in either Mississippi or Bessemer, Al. Both are burried in Genery's Gap Cemetery in either Jefferson or Shelby County, Al. Need information on her family and any other Children that they may have had. John William Porter's first wife was Mary Fatima Thomas. The Surname Kimbrel, I Know, has various spellings. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Betty Porter Mitchell

My Ggrandmother was Rachael E Wright/Heflin. She married Ransom Kimbrel in 1861 in Jefferson Co, Al. He was born in Tenn in 1822. They lived mostly in Shelby Co, Al. Rachael's daughter Alice Kimbrel married my grandfather John William Porter. Does anyone know if Rachel was a Wright or Heflin by birth. Some references list her as a Wright and some by Heflin. This is very confusing for me because I don't know which family to research. And I also need to know where the Wrights, Kimbrels and Heflins originated from. I have found some Heflins in Randolph Co, Al but don't know if they are related or not. Please, is there someone related to these families out there that could help me. My fathers name is David Kimbrell 52, and his father was A.J. Kimbrell, He was married to a Mary Preston here in Toledo, Oh. We have also found out that he had other children here with another Lady after him and my grandmother. They would be Patty Kimbrell, Peggy Kimbrell, Libbey KImbrell and Susan Kimbrell. My aunt Susan knows alot more than I do. I was just being nosy.

I'm trying to locate Kathy Gregory who last posted on ancestry.com in 2001. I find I'm related to her through the Leonard Zink of Rapho Twp., Lancaster Co., PA, the father of my great-great-grandpa Albert Zink born abt. 1852 in presumably Indiana, PA.

Kathy Gregory's email account with AOL is no longer valid (KMdalgreg@aol.com). If anyone knows how to contact her, place let me know. I'm Cathy and can be reached at gella@aol.com.
