Yes, that's the one. Elizabeth Kimler II, (her sister Elizabeth I died in childhood) married John Love. They are my great-great grandparents. I'll check out the pictures on the deadfred website. I keep trying to get the tiime to download my photos on findagrave for the Loves and Kimlers, but i plan to do that tomorrow. It's supposed to be super hot so I'll stay in and get that done.

Hello, I am a descendant of Julius Kimler brother of Augustus (middle name Harland?) Kimler. The 1860 McLean Co. Il Census shows Augustus born about 1851 and brother William born about 1857. Info I have from others says Augustus married Prudence Osborn in 1870. They had children William (probably your William Clyde), Moses, Charles, Tracey, Augustus and Lehman.

Tommy

Many thanks to both of you. I have not heard of a Scottish connection. From what I know my line came from Germany to Va and later to Ky and Il. The earliest was John Kimler born in Germany, married in Delaware and died 1792 in Va. This info cames from others, not my own research.

What I do know is that my g-grandfather Julius Kimler was a son of William Kimler who was probably a son of Moses Kimler. William's brother, James Robert Kimler born 1811 had a daughter Elizabeth Ann, born 1850. Is this your Elizabeth who married John Love? My grandmother, Grace Love Kimler was a daughter of Julius Kimler and Mary Robinson. Mary was a daughter of Noah Robinson and Freelove C. Martin. Freelove was noted in 1860 Le Roy Census as being born about 1829 in Il. I posted a pic of her with daughter Mary Robinson Kimler on deadfred.com. Let me know if you think we have a Love connection.

Tommy

Quick reply to both of re: mclean county kimlers. of the 10 sibs Daniel went to Lincoln county, MO, Hannah m. Alexander Montgomery & stayed in Montgomery county, IN, Evan eventually left IN & settled in Knox county, IL. Israel & Benjamin raised their families in Tazewell county. Sister Eliza m. Samuel Schooley & raised her family in Dewitt county, IL.

Moses, and brothers Bailey, John, & Caleb raised families in McLean county. There are alot of Kimler conections mostly in Empire, Oldtown, West, & Dawson townships.

I've done quite a bit of census-tracking with this family, would love to have some of your info as well.

As to the scottish descendancy, everything I've found & read about others finding states John, father of the above 10 sibs & his father were born in Germany.

Have had a hectic summer schedule, will try to get back to both of you asap

Hi, thanks for your reply. I have a picture (a drawing) of James Kimler from a book about the history of McLean County so I should post it on that website deadfred.com. Any info on the family would be great. I'm working on the Love family that settled in the same town. Elizabeth Kimler, daughter of James married John Love so my search continues down that road. My dad said the Kimlers came from the MacKinnon clan out of Scotland, have you heard that? That's something my dad would be greatly interested in is when they came to this country and where they were before McLean County.

I went to McLean last fall and documented the grave pics. I have more from another line that I took this weekend so I'll be posting those on findagrave.com.

Hello,
I'm not sure if I fit in this thread but my Kimlers are from Le Roy. My ancestor Julius(James)Franklin Kimler was born there in 1853 and married Mary Ann Robinson. I have photos of them and posted on Deadfred.com. I also have a photo of family gathering about 1915. Julius' father was William who was a son of Moses Kimler. Moses died at McLean Co, Il in 1851. I think Julius' siblings were Willet,Catherine,Austin,Augustus,Mary,William and Charles. I am happy to share more info on this line.
Tommy

Sorry, my message posted before I was done.

I have Caleb Kimler as being born in 1798, quite a few years younger than Moses. Let me know if you want pics and I'll send 'em to you. I'll have to check out Pleasant Grove, too.

There is a book about McLean County that I got a flier for that I'd like to order. Did you get the info about James Kimler? He sounds like he was quite the prominent citizen there at that time. Let me know what you have and I'll go through and catalog what I have, too and we can swap.

My grandma, Gladys Love married Marshall Linquist in IA. Marshall was from Swedish immigrant parents who settled in Clay County, KS. Then moved to Rockford which at the time in the 1920's was a huge center of manufacturing so jobs were plentiful. Both were able to work through the depression. My dad is Wayne Linquist. He said the Love's came from the MacKinnon clan from Scotland and he is most interested in finding that info.

So, Elizabeth Kimler and John Love moved to Iowa, but did most of the Kimlers stay in McLean County?

Thank you for your reply! Oh, yes, yes, yes I'd definitely be interested in any info on the Love's I can get my hands on! :) That's my dead end. The library in LeRoy had very little information on them and they seemed to exist without leaving a trace. We heard they came to Illinois from Ohio but haven't been able to find anything. My dad said that there was some graves on a farm. I had the name of it on a piece of paper that I just rifled through and can't find. I'm in the process of organzing the reams of paper I have and putting it all into a resonable order and making family group sheets and filing the papers in the appropriate family file. (Whew!, lots of work!)

The Loves ended up in Calhoun County, Iowa where my grandma Gladys Love was born. John Love died in Pocahontas County, IA and Stanley followed my grandmother and grandfather to Rockford, Illinois where he died. In fact, I'm going with my dad today to document all the graves in Rockford. (That's where I grew up and my dad still lives.) I did get a copy of the marriage license of John Love and Elizabeth Kimler from the courthouse in Bloomington and would like to to order more things about the Loves. Where is the West township office located? I just live two hours or so from there so it's not a huge deal to take a trip for more investigation.

Do you have any photos of the graves from Oak Grove? It's pretty interesting. My dad, older brother and myself went there separately but we need to take a trip all together so going to West township and looking for the old farm would be a good mission. Boy, that name of the farm is on the tip of my brain......Russell something....... I have the paper so I just have to find it.

Saw your post w/mini ancestral line. I descend from Moses Kimler's youngest brother, Caleb Kimler & Elizabeth Orendorff through their daughter, America Kimler m. Christian Noggle. My granmother is their daughter, Marjorie Erma Noggle m. James B. Scott. Father is Robert James Scott m. Billie Faye Gainous. Father, Grands & Great-grands are buried @ Pleasant Grove between Downs & Leroy.

Would love to exchange info/compare notes through the boards or email direct karey7457@yahoo.com

Karen

PS Have been to Old Oak Grove many times; are you aware of records for the Love family Cemetery (now farmed over)? A patient at the dental office I work at says she's is sure the West township hall has records for that. I've never pursued (so many ancesters, so little time) but might be of interest to you.

I've been reading through all of your notes on the Kimlers, very interesting. Here's how I'm decended from that line.
Ggrandparents were Stanley Love and Ethel Doty. GGgrandparents were John Love and Elizabeth Kimler.
GGG were James Kimler and Cassandra Jane Clearwaters.
GGGG were Moses Kimler and Mary Aker
GGGGG were the oft talked about John Kimler and ????? Miss Dye? Mary Cox?

I visited LeRoy last fall and took pictures in Oak Grove Cemetery (very cool, very old). I'm going to post them on findagrave but got delayed due to family illness, etc but now have the time. If you want copies I'd be happy to share. I found doing rubbings on some of them were very difficult due to their fragile state and weathered condition. I found a nice biography on James Kimler on a book about McLean County.

My 3rd great-grandfather, Caleb Kimler had an older brother Daniel (& wife Elizabeth Brewer) who emigrated from Loudoun county, VA to Lincoln county, MO in 1820s-1830s while his siblings inc. Caleb ended up in central IL & IN. I do not know much about Daniel's descendants but there are a whole bunch of avid long-time Kimler researchers out there who may know more. I hope you make a connection. Karen

Thanks for clearing that up, was a bit confused. So Moses and Hannah Cox had 10 children. I only have the following names:

Benjamin m: Philena Cox
Caleb m:Louisa Heins
Ida m: Edward Schaaf
Joshua m: Catherine Brown

I know that Moses parents where Benjamin and Ann Brinton so should possibly have a dau named Ann. Not sure who Hannahs parents were, think they were Richard and Elizibeth Palmer, if so then should have children named that if following Quaker standard naming of children. Oh well, maybe we will figure this out. Christine

Carla,

Long time since we have corresponded on this subject. The Cox family where originally Quakers and did the same naming convention as the Germans (from what I have been able to see). Which Benjamin Cox are you referring to, the husband of Philena or the son of Benjamin and Philena, brother of Mary Cox? Benjamin Cox, husband of Philena Dye, was the son of Moses and Hannah Eavenson. I do not have all the family members of this family right now but can do some research at another time.

There has been some others who have thought the parents of John Kimler who married Mary Cox (dau of Benjamin and Philena) was John Kimler and a female Cox not a female Dye so you are not alone in that idea. Will this one ever get answered and how? I am sure there is more to come.

Christine

Hi Carla,
I just re-found this site. I wrote back in Feb.2000.
Told you about my father Alvin Kimler & mother Shirley. My Grandparents were Irving & Jessie Kimler.
I just wanted to tell you that post # 63 from Michelle Fallon (she's my cousin Sharon Kimler's daughter) listed her
Great-grandparent's name wrong (which were my Grandparents). She listed them as BAMBI & Jessie Kimler. We only called them "Bambi" Irving & "Bambi" Jessie. My sister nicknamed them that when she saw the movie and it stuck! So for your records-their names were Irving Kimler & Jessie Kimler. I hope this helps.
I hope I find this site again! Somehow I hope to see how everyone you found ties into my family.
Thanks for your help and hard work.
Debbie (Kimler)

Richard and Sarah are my great-great-great-great grandparents. Richard was born 1810 in Loudoun Cty., VA and Sarah Fender was born in 1815 in Indiana. They were married in 1834. Richard's parents are Moses Kimler (b. 10/23/1785, Loudoun Cty., VA) and Mary Akers (b. 5/10/1786). Moses' parents are John Kimler (b. abt 1750 in Germany, d. 1792 Loudoun Cty., VA) and mother is said have the last name of Dye and her first is unknown. John Kimler arrived in US in 1785.

Richard and Sarah's son, Robert Henry (b. 6/30/1837 d. 12/12/1891) married Emily (Emma Luella) Morse in Marian Cty., Iowa.

I am very interested in the Sarah Fender's ancestry.

Please respond to scorlett@pacbell.net

Thank you,
Scott Corlett

I have studied this Miss Dye thing for a long time now. I am beginning to think someone jumped to the wrong conclusion when they read that John, who married Mary Cox was the nephew of Phelina Dye Cox(wife of Benjamin).Benjamin and Phelina appear to have used the German way of naming their children. When I aply this method to the Kimler/Dye family,it comes up that our Miss Dye could very well be Miss Cox(sister to Benjamin). So far I have only found one sister for Benjamin, her name is also Mary.I have not been able to find any marriage info. on her.

I too would love to know the identity of Miss Dye m. John Kimler--10 children, one of whom is Caleb Kimler m. Elizabeth Orendorff, married 04-01-1832 in McLean Cty, IL. They are my ggg-grandparents. Many family members in McLean Cty, & surrounding counties. Many burials @ Old Oak Grove Cemetary, Leroy, McLean, IL. I've taken some stone rubbings (Stones face full sun, wind on only hill in miles, many can only be read w/pencil rubbing) McLean County Genealogy Society has great sources for family history. Caleb's brother, John m. Mary Cox 01-01-1828 in Taxewell Cty, IL He died 07-24-1838 Taxewell Cty, IL. An 1840 McLean Cty, IL census lists Mary Cox as household head w/1 F 10-15, 1 F 15-20, 1F 30-40 (This would fit w/dau. Hannah, b. 11-13-1829 & dau. Adaline, b. 03-30-1832) Mary is listed under Bailey Kimler household(another John Kimler/Miss Dye child) Would love to hear from other Kimler/Dye researchers, I've only been doing this 10 weeks & I have many questions? And I believe the Kimler/Kimbler thing is single family, Caleb & Elizabeth tombstones, marriage license say Kimler, dau America, my gg grandmother's stone says Kimbler, I think they were in transition losing the xtra letter.
