      <description>I am also looking for more information on these two.  If the George Dean Archer is the son of Oliver Hazard Perry Archer and Mary Dean, then perhaps we could email each other.  He is my Great-Great-grandfather and I am trying like crazy to get info on his marriages.  Just can't find a whole lot except names, but no census or marriage records.</description>

Asa's father Amos was the son of Nathan Richardson and Phebe Crocker, b. at Coventry, CT on 16 November 1754.  Amos was the two year younger brother of Lucy Champion Richardson, wife of Eliab Robinson of Windham, CT, latter the parents of Lucy Williams Robinson, the 2nd wife of Joshua Kingsley of Pittsford, VT, latter the oldest sibling of Zerviah (Kingsley) Richardson [Mrs Asa Richardson] and only known son of Nathaniel Kingsley and Rebecca Edgerton.</description>

Daniel was born to Seth and Polly Mary (Converse) Kingsley. Daniel's father died when he was a young boy and he was the eldest of several children. He must have been a very industrious hard working boy. He was a prosperous farmer and was active in Republican politics in Monroe County. He held county offices at different times and was well known. He was elected Pittsford supervisor in 1859 and again in 1863 as well as functioning as the asst. Marshall for the 1870 US Federal census of Pittsford. He was a very charitable person and helped poor families as long, as he lived. The attendance at his funeral was largest and procession of carriages the longest. He had a sister, Susan Welch, who lived in the neighborhood. There was an estrangement between the families. He rarely mentioned them. Daniel Kingsley's grandfather came from Northampton, Mass.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Anna Maria Brown was born on Dec 4 1827 in Henrietta NY and died in 1877 at Pittsford NY. Anna Maria was born to Francis and Anna (Gillette) Brown. Not much is known beyond these facts although the Gillette family is traced back very far.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;(Note: Mendon, Henrietta and Pittsford are all neighboring towns within 10 miles square)&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Largely paraphrasing Edna Emily Congdon Peck's portion of Family Record:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Frances Anna Kingsley was born on Feb 27 1849 in Pittsford NY, married Rev. LaFayette Congdon on Sep 20 1871 in Wayne NY and died in 1931 at Batavia NY. Frances and LaFayette had 8 children, 5 of which lived to adulthood.: Fayette Kingsley Congdon, Edna Emily Congdon, Randolph Thatcher Congdon, Edgar Davidson Congdon, and Wray Hollowell Congdon. Frances Anna Kingsley was named for her maternal grandparents, Francis and Anna Brown. She was the eldest of four living children. Frances was a beautiful girl as all her pictures show. When about sixteen she became enrolled at Mrs. Nicholl's school for girls in Rochester. She went to the home of Mrs. Emily T. Randolph to board during school days. There she met the young college student from Springwater who was to become her husband. After finishing Mrs. Nicholl’s school, she taught a district school, which until recently stood near the farm of Uncle George Kingsley, Daniel's younger brother. Aunt Louise Kingsley, the wife of Willis, told me that she was the belle of that section. Added to her natural attractions was the fact that her father was prosperous, owning three farms on the Clover road not far from Rochester, and buildings in Pittsford. She always had beautiful clothes and everything she wanted. She was devoted to her parents She used to make frequent trips home after her mother's death to see her father. I was often taken along and have vague recollections of meeting one of my uncles at the Whitcomb House in Rochester, having dinner there and a long often cold tiresome buggy ride to grandfather's. He then lived in the house later owned by Uncle Will.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Alice May Kingsley was born in 1851 in Pittsford NY and died at two years of age.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Edmund Daniel Kingsley was born in 1852 at Pittsford NY, never married and died at middle age, in 1888 at Pittsford NY. At the time he owned and ran a meat market in Pittsford. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;George Elbert Kingsley was born Sep 3 1854 in Pittsford NY, married Mary Emily Spellman on Jan 21 1885 in Pittsford and died on Mar 30 1923 in Pittsford NY. George and Emily had 3 children: Ernest Daniel Kingsley, George William Kingsley, and Frances Kingsley. George Elbert Kingsley was very sick with scarlet fever when a child and became deaf. His health was never robust. His father, Daniel, sent him west to work on a ranch when he was twenty. His health improved somewhat. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Willis B Kingsley was born about 1861 in NY, married Louise M. Spiegel and died in 1923. No issue is known for this line.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;</description>

There are volumes of information out there about him as he was always closely aligned with the press. First as a journalist and then as a press representative for broadway and vaudeville. He is credited with coining the slogan "You Haven't Arrived Until You've Played the Palace!". He was born in western New York (either Holley or Batavia), got his first job working in Buffalo for his brother's local papers. Moved abroad and began writing for international papers covering among other things the Boer war and the Russo-Japanese conflict (more as a press agent for the Japanese image). He then came to Broadway and never left. He acted as press agent for many famous acts in Vaudeville and on Broadway. He pulled off many media coups to draw attention to his clients. He made claims of huge wagers on the America's Cup to draw attention to the underdog crew. He wrote letters to ethics boards about the scandalous nature of books and plays which peaked sales of novels and shows. He was well loved by the theatrical community and there were many op-eds and memorials written to him after his death.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Walter was married twice and had one female child with each wife. His first wife was Alma Hanlon, who was an up and coming silent movie star that had a very short career. They were married for 12 years (1905-1917) and their child was Dorothy Kingsley (b. 14 Oct 1909), who went on to a very successful screenwriting career. Walter then married Francesca Carmen (originally Francesca Sattler), a dancer from Budapest, Hungary. Their child was Gloria Kingsley, of which I have little information besides a birth month and year (Feb 1924).&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Walter was found unconscious one day outside the New Amsterdam Theatre building, was taken to the New York Hospital, was thought to be recovering well but died 11 days later on 14 Feb 1929. Death was caused by cerebral spinal meningitis which was hastened by a recent attack of influenza. He was cremated and his wife cast his ashes from a plane flying over Broadway. His will was dated 3 years previous to his death and only mentioned his current wife. KINGSLEY.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;A well improved farm of seventy-four acres, situated in Pittsford township, is the home of George E. Kingsley and the property has been in possession of the family for more than ninety years,having been located by N. Kingsley, an uncle of Daniel Kingsley, father of our subject, who came to this state from New England at a very early day, the family home being established in Mendon. Daniel Kingsley wedded Maria Brown, who was born in Henrietta and by her marriage became the mother of five children. The father gave his political support to the republican party and took an active part in public affairs, serving as road commissioner and supervisor of his township. His death occurred in 1886. He and his wife were numbered among the worthy pioneer settlers of Monroe County. When the father arrived in this section of the state the work of developing new land seemed a long and strenuous task, but he possessed a resolute purpose and strong determination and in due time developed a good property, which today stands as a monument to his life of thrift and energy.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;George E. Kingsley was born in 1855, on the farm which is yet his home, and in the work of cultivating the land he performed an active and helpful part. He received his education in the country schools near his father's home. Since coming into possession of the homestead farm Mr. Kingsley has added many improvements to the place, including the erection of a modern country residence, which was built about five years ago. He has also set out an orchard and shade and ornamental trees and made the property one of the attractive farms of this section of the state. In addition to cultivating cereals best adapted to soil and climate he has also been engaged in the dairy business, and this is proving a gratifying source of income to him. He is practical and enterprising in carrying on his work and the success which has come to him is well merited. He was also engaged in the nursery business for fourteen years.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Mr. Kingsley was married in 1885 to Miss Mary Spellman, who was born in Pittsford, and by her marriage she has become the mother of two sons, and a daughter, Ernest, George and Frances. He has continued the work of agricultural progress which was here instituted by his father and is today numbered among th e substantial residents of Monroe county.       <description>Ruth KINGSLEY was shown as the informant on the death certificate of Rutha GREGG who died 29 August 1952 in Los Angeles, CA.  Rutha GREGG was born Jerusha BALL 10 January 1876 in Harlan County, KY, daughter of William Martin "Will" BALL and Emily SKIDMORE.  Jerusha, also called Rutha and Ruthia, married Charley Marshall GREGG abt. 1896.  Charley and Jerusha had two daughters: Ida M., b. Feb 1899 in PA, d. (probably) before the 1910 census; and, Gladys, b. abt. 1901 in PA.  The family was in the 1900 census for Fayette Co., PA, and the 1910 census for Orange Co., FL.  Between 1910 and 1920, Charley and Rutha divorced, and Rutha moved to Los Angeles, CA., where she lived for the remainder of her life.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Because the informant, Ruth KINGSLEY, knew Rutha's parents names and birth states, I suspect that she was a family member, perhaps a granddaughter.  KINGSLEY was probably a married surname.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Jerusha "Rutha" (Ball) GREGG was the only sibling of my great grandmother, Margaret Eliza (Ball) BAILEY, wife of Dr. Granville Pearl BAILEY of Harlan Co., KY.       <description>I have been researching this line for some time now (sometimes without knowing it) and I am looking for others doing the same. Most of my research is based on the vital records of townships like Bridgewater MA, Eaton MA, Milton MA, Braintree MA, Greenwich MA, Pittsford(Mendon) NY and Batavia NY, Military records from the national archive, census records through ancestry.com and the previous hardcopy research of Frances Anna Kingsley (1912), Margaret Chapin (1950s) and Barbara Kingsley (1970s). I have also been lucky enough to visit a few ancestral sites and cemeteries which have proven very useful.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;My line of Kingsley's spent a few generations in coastal MA, then moved to the interior for a short time (1/2 to one generation) then on to western NY. I follow the reasoning that Stephen and the next few descendant generations of Kingsleys used the Kinsley name and then some lines switched back and some did not (case in point the VT Kinsleys apparently switched back earlier than the MA Kinsleys and a few lines that I have tracked have never changed back).&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I am interested in all of Stephen's descendant lines and therefore solicit your input (whether comment or criticism). It's a wonderful resource.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Go to &lt;a href="http://www.worldcat.org" target="_blank"&gt;www.worldcat.org&lt;/a&gt;, type in "Kingsley Family in America" or "William Arthur Kingsley" in the search box and put your zip code in its box. It will come up with all the libraries that house this book starting with the closest to you. In my case, the closest is the Library of Congress, but many many times I've found books at libraries right here in town (including those at universities and community colleges). &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Even if the book isn't somewhere close to you, perhaps you have a library with an Interlibrary Loan Department?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Good luck. I don't know enough about my Kingsley family to even begin looking for them (Samuel Kingsley, Havre de Grace, Maryland, d. sometime before 1810).&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Robin</description>

      <description>Hi&lt;br&gt; I am pretty sure there will not be a link or such but because you mentioned "upstate NY" and the name "Kingsley" I am none the less curious. And it never hurts to ask(lol). I am searching (brick wall) for a Mary Jane Kingsley b 1840.On her death cert it says she previously lived in Troy NY. It seems Mary went to NYC abt 1860, whether she married there or in Troy I am not sure, tho I think it was NYC, she married John Joseph Edmonds (b 1840-England). She had at least 1 child that I know of,William Edward b 1869, but then Mary died in childbirth in 1880 days after giving birth to a son John. The child also died. Mary and her son are buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn. &lt;br&gt;  I have tried searching for her parents but with no luck. I saw your post and thought I would try. Most likely you will not be able to help, but as I said before...can't hurt to try! lol TY&lt;br&gt;Sue in NY&lt;br&gt;  </description>

      <description>Hi&lt;br&gt;  I saw your post, and I don't think it is revelant to me BUT it can't hurt to ask. (lol) I have a Mary (Jane??) Kingsley born 1840. Her death certificate said she lived in Troy NY, at least till the age of 20 when she went to New York City. Mary married a John Joseph Edmonds, and she died in 1880 after childbirth, as did her infant. As far as I know she did have a previous son William b abt 1869. I cannot find any Kingsley in Troy about that time. Anyone any ideas???&lt;br&gt;Thanks </description>

      <description>I'm a historian doing a deed reconstruction of a large tract in the Town of Truxton, Cortland County, NY, and I have some information on your Polly (Kingsley) Cotton.  I am excited to learn that her maiden name was Kingsley, because it would appear that her husband, Jonathan Cotton, first bought land in my research area from one of her relatives, one Thomas Kingsley.  I suspect, in fact, that Thomas Kingsley was the brother to Polly.  More on that later, but for now, here's the deed history for Jonathan and Polly (Kingsley) Cotton:&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;     1.  On 12-26-1825 Thomas Kingsley (no co-grantor is specified, so Thomas seemingly was not married), listed as residing in Truxton, NY sells two parcels located on Lot 95, Town of Truxton,  to Jonathan Cotton, also listed as being a resident of Truxton, NY.  One of these parcels is 42 acres, and the other is 5 acres.  They are not contiguous, but are both located in the southwestern corner of said Lot 95.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;     2.  On March 13, 1829  Samuel Stiles, listed as being a resident of Truxton, NY, sells two parcels located on Lot 95, Town of Truxton,  to Jonathan Cotton, also listed as being a Truxton resident.  These two parcels are not contiguous either, but each one connects to one or the other of the two parcels of the 12-26-1825 transaction. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;     3.  On March 1, 1832 Jonathan Cotton and Polly, his wife, of Truxton, NY, sell all of the above parcels to one Thomas Holdridge of Homer, NY, thus ending the tenure of Jonathan and Polly Cotton on Lot 95 Truxton.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;     Returning to the Kingsley connection, three Kingsleys, namely, Simeon, Thomas and Bethuel bought a 150 acre parcel on Truxton Lot 95, located in the southwest corner of said Lot, on 1-3-1810, which they subsequently subdivided into two parcels, a fifty acre one owned by Bethuel, and a one hundred acre one which was co-owned by Thomas and Simeon.  As it turned out, Simeon died (on 3-13-1813) without leaving a Last Will and Testament, so his estate had to be settled via legal proceedings, which were not finalized until September 9-10, 1818.  Among other things, the court proceedings determined that Thomas Kingsley was entitled to an equal undivided half of the lands of Simeon Kingsley, deceased, while the remainder of the land was divided among Simeon's widow, Susannah, and his children, namely, Anna, Cynthia, Chloe D. and Simeon.  So, the 47 acres which Thomas Kingsley sold to Jonathan Cotton in 1825 were the lands which the court had partitioned off to him, while the two parcels which Samuel Stiles sold to Jonathan Cotton in 1829 were a portion of the lands which the court had partitioned off to the other heirs of Simeon Kingsley (his wife, Susannah, and children).  What is not clear to this researcher at present is how the aforesaid Samuel Stiles came into ownership of the parcels, as he is not listed in the Cortland County deed indexes as being a grantee for these parcels.  So, does anyone know of any genealogical connection between Samuel Stiles and the Kingsleys, which might explain how he came to own a portion of the Simeon Kingsley estate?&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;     Given that Jonathan Cotton's wife's maiden name was Kingsley, I am assuming that she, Polly,  was related to the aforesaid three Kingsleys, whom I also assume are brothers.   Does anyone know if, in fact, Polly Kingsley was a sister to Simeon, Thomas and Bethuel Kingsley?    &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;     I'd be happy to share any specific details about the above deed transactions and legal proceedings.  Also, I live at the land where the Kingsleys/Cotton farm(s) were located, and the house is still standing in which Jonathan and Polly Cotton lived.  Their farm is presently subsumed with the larger acreage of the present day Common Place Land Trust and Community.  We use the old "farm house" as we call it, for our community space.  Anyone would be welcome to come and walk the land of your ancestors, or visit the farmhouse.  Just let me know you're coming!  (oh, and by the way, the farmhouse has a ghost in it!       <description> I am a historian doing a deed reconstruction of a large tract located in the northeast corner of Town of Truxton, Cortland Co, NY, and, in case you don't know it, your Kingsleys ended up here, in first decades of nineteenth century.  I have deed and other records for John (whom I believe was the father) and the sons: Thomas, Bethuel, Simeon, Perez.  I would be happy to share details, if you are interested.   &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Simeon Kingsley died in Truxton, in 1813, and his probate record includes a complete inventory of his estate, as well as the identification of his widow, Susannah, and his children. In the deeds that came out after his estate was settled, we get the names of some of his daughters after they are married. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;I am dying to find out where these Kingsleys came from, and where they moved on to after leaving Truxton.  I suspect that Thomas Kingsley had a daughter named Polly, who married one Jonathan Cotton.  Thomas sold his land on lot 95 Truxton to said Jonathan in 1825, and, in turn, the Cottons sold the same land in 1832.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Hope this thread isn't dead!&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Dick Lewis</description>

      <description>I'm a historian doing a complete deed reconstruction of a large tract in the northeast portion of the Town of Truxton, Cortland Co, NY.  A number of Kingsleys owned land within my research area, on Lot 95, during the general era 1807-1825, including John, Thomas, Simeon, and Bethuel.  Perez Kingsley is not listed as a grantee or grantor for any land in Truxton, period, but I have come across his name on one occasion to date:  he appears in the 1814 inventory of the estate of Simeon Kingsley (who had died Intestate in March of 1813).  As part of the settlement of his estate his worldly possessions, including credits owed to him, were inventoried.  In a listing  entitled, "An account against" we find the following entry:  "Perez Kingsley and T. Glass 12.00 [dollars]".    &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;that's it!  But, at least we know that Perez Kingsley was here in Truxton, at some time prior to March 1813, and possibly yet as of the time of this inventory, which seems to have been done in spring of 1814.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Hope this helps. Our sympathies are extended to the husband in his sad and painful bereavement, hoping his loss may be her eternal gain. The funeral was on the 5th Inst., the Rev. J.B.Stocking,of the Congregational Church,officiating. The remains were taken to Amherst for interment. Had a daughter, Sarah, born Manhattan NY 08 May 1866 (my grandmother).
