All churches have their copies but seeing that his church is no longer I don't know where his records would be...if at all they still exist? being abit doggy they probably don't.. I have tried the state Library and they don't have anything.I need them as he married my ggparents and something has been rubbed out on the original. thanks for your help Roberta....

Hi Roberta

If you Google his name you can pick up lots of references, including a Photo.

From Google:

'Between 1858 and 1862 services were held in the schoolroom "near the Collingwood baths". These were conducted by a layman, Nathaniel Kinsman, who was a Fitzroy second-hand furniture dealer. When the Church of England decided to appoint an ordained minister to East Collingwood in 1862, Kinsman and his congregation objected to the appointment. They seceded and erected this church nearby. According to census reports there were 111 members of this new congregation in 1871 and about half that number ten years later.

Kinsman's church became part of a denomination known as the Victorian Free Church of England and Ireland or The Episcopal Free Church. This depiction of it is a detail from a photograph taken in 1887 which can be seen in full on another history page.

This church lasted for 20 years until 1907. In 1895 it was known locally as the Victorian Free Church and in 1902 as the Victorian Free Church Mission Hall. it was probably demolished soon after 1912 and is now replaced by houses'.

The following is also from a Google (RootsChat):

'Nathaniel KINSMAN was well known for asking few questions,
so people who had something to hide were likely to turn up at his door.

I should add, Carol, that he was in trouble several times for marrying a minor who arrived with a spurious "Father", "Guardian", and one with a
"letter of consent from her mother".He was told by the court he should have made more enquiries before marrying. He was also caught out when one of another couple was a bigamist.Though he couldn't be blamed for accepting the information provided by the individuals, and because "to
marry in haste, is to repent at leisure" is an old adage, many of his marriages turned up often in the divorce court, with violent or non-working husbands. So you were part right, Carol!'

Nathaniel died in 1898 aged 75 at Fitzroy South. He may have been buried at the nearby Melbourne General Cemetery and if you email them (Google their website) you can find out his burial location if he is buried there).

Richard

Melissa and Chris,

This might be of some help to you.

John Knill Kinsman married Unity Sophia Martha Hughes 8 May 1806 in Nova Scotia. He was then Lieutenant, RN and was appointed Commander in 1813. He died in Plymouth in 1831.

I think (but haven't found evidence to prove it yet) that his father was John Kinsman, b1754 in Callington, Cornwall. Certainly his widow, Unity, and some of their children were living in Callington in 1841.

Regards

Derrick Watson

Hi Jerri,

I believe that Savina's parents were John KINSMAN and MARGARET POPE (rather than Collings), who were married 19 Jul 1789 in Tavistock.

Savina and Caleb had two sisters. The four children were:

1. Elizabeth Rosamond (bap. 22 Aug 1790 The Abbey Chapel-Presbyterian, Tavistock)
2. Savina (bap. 13 Feb 1793 The Abbey Chapel-Presbyterian, Tavistock)
3. Margaret (b. 8 Dec 1797; bap. 11 Dec 1797, Brook St Independent, Tavistock)
4. Caleb (b. 2 Oct 1802; bap. 9 Oct 1802, Brook St Independent, Tavistock)

Hope that helps,
Andrew

Thank you so much for your kind offer, I haven't checked out this site in awhile as I have been on another line and following it back to Cornwall.

Looking for info on Charles Vivian Kinsman born about 1869-1872 in National Mines, Marquette Co., MI, father might have been Simon Kinsman born about 1844 and Elizabeth Vivian born about 1855. Charles married Anice Cornish dau of Joseph Cornish and Ann Glasson. They had Zella Kinsman born about 1900 in Marquette Co., MI and Audrey Anice born 25 June 1906 in Marquette. Have no info on Zella but Audrey was married to Andrew J. Waite in 1934 in Stambaugh Twn, Iron Co., MI and they had Charles Adnrew Waite born 10 June 1937 in Stambaugh. Any info on these people would be appreciated. I am related through our Glasson line. Joan of Michigan

Hi Jerri

I cannot answer all of your questions but you will find something about the Kinsmans in this Rootschat message board:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,350454.15.htm...

If you start a new Devon Lookup Request for surname KINSMAN Tavistock you will find that DOB7 may be able to answer some of your questions although DOB7's Tavistock resources are limited.

DOB7 uses the Devon FHS indices which are available through the society for purchase. They cover baptisms & burials 1813-1837 and marriages 1754-1837. Here is the catalogue:
http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/publications.htm

For other dates, you will have to contact the Devon Record Office where you can purchase fiche of the registers or pay a fee to have them conduct the research. The address is here:
http://www.devon.gov.uk/index/councildemocracy/neighbourhood...

Regards
Nick

Hi Joan,

Your post caught my eye as I believe that the Simon Kinsman you mentioned (born abt 1845, married Elisabeth Vivian 26 Sep 1868) was the half-brother of my gg-gf, Richard Apps.

As I'm sure you already know, Charles' name does not appear with this family in the 1880 census, unless the oldest child - Simon C. Kinsman, aged 11 - is, in fact, Simon Charles (Vivian) Kinsman. Do you think this is possible?

I have seen the entry for Charles' birth in 1869 in the IGI (on www.familysearch.org), but surprisingly it does not appear in the listing of Michigan births 1867 - 1902 on the FamilySearch Labs Website (search.labs.familysearch.org). Nor is there a birth listed for a Simon Kinsman in that database - it's a bit of a mystery.

I couldn't find Charles or Anice in the 1900 census, nor for that matter, Simon and Elizabeth, although Joseph and Ann Cornish are there. I half suspect that Simon and his family may have moved back to England, although I couldn't find a definite match for them in the 1901 English census.

In any event, if you would like any additional information about Simon Kinsman, please get in touch.

Regards -

Tim in Ottawa

P.S. I hope this reply doesn't appear twice - this first time I tried posting it, it seemed to disappear.

Hi Rose in Midvale -

I'm reasonably certain that Simon Kinsman (Charlie's father) was the son of Mary Ann Teague and Joseph Kinsman. Joseph appears to have died shortly before or after Simon's birth; Mary Ann later married a William Pope, but was again widowed within a few years. Her third marriage - to my gg-grandfather, Richard Apps - lasted 45 years, until her death in 1900. (Richard was a shoemaker, a far less dangerous profession than copper miner.)

I'm curious to know if Charlie's letters to your mother confirm the above information and/or add any details that I'm not aware of. I'd be grateful if you could get in touch with me by e-mail: perrott_AT_nrcan_DOT_gc_DOT_ca (replace _AT_ with @ and _DOT_ with .).

Many thanks -

Tim in Ottawa

I am researching Sabina/Savina KINSAMN who married Henry ROWE abt 1811 in Stoke Damerel, Devon. Sabina is the sister of Caleb KINSMAN. Parents are possibly John KINSMAN and Margaret COLLINGS.

On the 1841 Tavistock Census Henry & Sabina ROWE were also living on Barley Market Street.

I have a Frances/Fanny ROWE b 1815 who married a John Harris DOIDGE.
Joan ~

Yes, I have George Kinsman's obit(copy) as well as Ellen Kinsman's obit (copy). I also have a reunion book for the Kinsman-Welch family from July 16, 1967... with George and Ellen on the cover, pictured in their elder years. It gives a brief history of Pelletioh Kinsman, father of George, and Israel(sp?) Welch, Ellen's father.

George Kinsman was born November 16, 1859 in Waterloo, WI, son of Pelletioh and Mary (Knight) Kinsman. He died on November 15th, on the eve of his 96th Birthday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cy Howey. He is buried at Mt Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD. He married Ellen Welch on March 5th, 1882 at Yahota. In 1880, he came to SD from St Charles, MN. In 1990, he moved to his homestead in Roberts County. He farmed for over 65 years.

Ellen died at the age of 89, and is buried at Mt Hope, as well. Her obit gives no family history... just funeral arrangements and those attending.

I am the great, grand-daughter of William D. Kinsman, George's brother.

Regards,

Sarah Welch (curious, no direct relation to Ellen!)

I have letters written from Charlie Kinsman to my mother. Elizabeth Vivian was the twin to my great grandmother Mary Ann Vivian who married John Vivian. I have documents that this Vivian line goes back to royalty. I remember Charlie saying in his letter that the Kinsman line was messed up with mrgs. etc. like half brother in Cornwall. Anyway I have done a lot of research and sure I can help with the Kinsmans.Charlie also wrote that Captain Johnson Vivian was a cousin to his mother. This Johnson is in Who's Who in Michigan. I even have a picture of Johnson Vivian and Elizabeth Kinsman.
Looking forward to hearing just what information you are seeking. Rose in MIdvale, Utah

My great, great, great grandfather Thomas Kinsman(b 1803) moved from Poundstock to Truro, where he married a Truro girl Elizabeth in 1825. Their son William married Elizabeth Johnson from Veryan Cornwall and moved to Burnley Lancashire, with his family in 1870, and their descendents are listed then in the family Bible.
The Kinsman family in North Cornwall appears to link back to the village of Kilkhampton, and the earliest reference is a Benjamin Kinsman in 1642. I suspect that most of the Kinsmans originate from North east Cornwall

The motorcyle touring must have been fun! I haven't been on one in years. Apparently it took me a bit of time to hear of your message as well...i'd thought there were auto e-mails on replies? I only found your reply by chance.

I'm glad to have made a connection, you're my first on the Kinsman line. I'm on my way to check out your site now, and i'll let you know when mine's up as well.

Take care!
Melissa
Heylo Chris,

I was wondering if you have your website up again, perhaps on another server, or if it's gone for good?

And something's knocking at my head from your message, you say you have the information for Catherine Barry's other (her first?) marriage? I'll have to go through our emails again, but i dont' think i have that information for her~! (or at least i don't know what Mr. Barry's first name was.

Andrew Kinsman messaged me, which is what brought this back to memory.

(Motorcyling through S. America in 2007, what's on the agenda for 2009?)

Take care,
Melissa

The 1860 Fed Cen has an Elizabeth Kinsmen, 17, seamstress and a Martha J Kinsmen, 10, living in the household of Barksdale and Mary Charles in South Carolina, Greenville Co.

Next door in another Charles dwelling, a relative, there are more Kinsmen children, no parents.

Does anyone recognize these children. Are they orphans? Or are they possably relatives of the Charles family?

I am researching this Charles family.
Any information welcome.
Joyce

I want to first thank you for your interest in my posting. It is as a matter of fact rather interesting you would have the same name and same birthday. If you happen to have any of your family tree I would be interested in checking it out to see if there is any branchs we might share. Thanks again for your response and I am sorry I never responded sooner. To be honest the reason I didn't was because since you didn't have anything I needed I didn't feel the neeed. I should have just to be polite. So anyway thanks.
Roger William Kinsman
