Hi Cousin: I am the grandaughter of Charles Amos Kenyon, brother of Lillie Belle Kenyon Moore and son of John B. Kinyon and Nancy J. Williams Kinyon (John B,'s 3rd wife). I am so happy to hear from Sarah's offspring. I have her name as Sarah Alma Kinyon Houts. I was very happy to get her date of birth. Do you have the birth dates of the other siblings. We are not sure about John B.'s and don't have any of the others. I hope you can fill me in on Sarah, Daniel, and Sidney and John B., too, for that matter. Our branch of the family was cut off from much contact and therefore lost out on the Kinyon lore because Charles and Lillie were raised from infants by Nancy's brother and sister, Preston and Polly Ann Williams. Nancy died when Charles was 12 days old. Charles and Lillie lived in Carthage, Mo. where my father was raised. I was raised in Fort Worth, Texas and now reside in San Antonio, TX. I am almost 65 yrs. old (Feb. 2nd). I hope to hear from you soon. Kathryn

Hi! My dad (Kenneth Wilson, Rialto) mentions your family periodically when discussing family history. The new hospital is built where your family had a ranch at one time, isn't it?

I'm really interested in finding out more about the Swarthout family also. I found a website with a lot of early history about the family. I don't know much about Truman or Nathan (son, right?) but I know that Lucinda and George accompanied them on the Andrew Lytle wagon train to San Bernardino in 1851. Apparently Geroges father, Wilford Farnum Kinyon(known as Farnum in church records) had come to California in 1849. I thought perhaps he was part of the MOrmon battalion since the Swarthouts were, but can find no record of him participating. When the family reached San Bernardino, they learned that Farnum had died the year before (1850).
Lucinda is listed under Nathan's household with three children in Salt Lake on the 1850 census. Aunt Helen knows of a brother that died when he was about 20 years, but doesn't know his name. I thought perhaps I could learn more about what happend from Swarthout decendents. I know there must be Swarthout decendents in Colton and San Bernardino, but Aunt Helen (Nellie Kinyon's daughter) only remembers one boy who protected in school because, he told her, they were family.
My family traces back to the Kinyons by my father, Kenneth Wilson...grandmother Kathryn <Tossetti> Wilson and greatgrandmother Nellie <Kinyon> Tossetti. I'm coming south for Christmas (planning to drive down Xmas day)...could we meet and talk about the family?
Thank you for writing.

Catherine (Wilson) Poloynis

Since we have a common ancestor we are obviously cousins of some sort. George Benjamin Kinyon married Lavina Jane Dustin in Colton CA. He died there in 1928. I am the son of his grandson Wilford Guy Freeman.

I think you will find that John and Will (Wilford)Kinyon are the sons of George B. To my knowledge he and his mother Lucinda Swarthout Kinyon Colburn came to CA alone--although I believe she had brothers on the same train. There are scads of Swarthouts around San Bernardino.

I have a newspaper clipping about George which lists all of his descendants.

Contact me if you are interested.

Linda,
We need birthdates etc for your John B. Kinyon... My John B. was born in 1840 and I show that he is buried in the cemetery in Coulterville, Ill. I have him as married 4 times. To women named Bredemier, Whitechurch, williams and finally to Polly Cook. Of course that does not mean that je wasn't married a 5th time that we don't know about. I would be interested in finding out if your dates match. The family is traced from Whales. I hope this helps... Please let me know.
