I am posting this as an aide to other genealogists.
This is an obit of a person that has died in Canada.
THIS IS NOT a relative of mine.
Lexi

KIPPAN, Beryl Nov. 27, 1915 - Sept. 1, 2007: Passed away peacefully at home. She is survived by her husband James of 64 1/ 2 years; son Jake (Chris) of Qualicum; son Duncan (Janey) of Kelowna and grandchildren: Jamie, Glenn, Lindsey, Jessica and Robin; her sisters Jenny of Montreal and Iris of North Carolina.
Kipen family in Germany, Ohio, and Michigan

Hello!

I am not a Kipen (that I know of :>) but I often come across that name when doing my own family research. Brohl is in the Eifel Mountain area north of the Mosel River - west of the Rhine, northeast of Cochem and north of Karden. It is where my ancestors, the Einig family, were from.

Lots of German Catholics from that area around Cochem moved to the US in the 1840s. Some stayed in Buffalo NY, others stopped at Erie PA, and most of the ones I'm descended from moved to the Cleveland - Elyria area (Cuyahoga and Lorain counties in Ohio)

In fact, there is a graveyard that is surprising like that of St. Mary's New Salem in Allegan County MI because so many of the names are the same. I am referring to St. Theresa (may have the spelling wrong) in Sheffield. The families included: Diederich (several spellings) Weber Steffes Einig Schumacker (several spellings) Biermacher, Alflen, Kipen, etc. Since it sounds like at least one of the writers on this list is from the Allegan County branch, those names probably ring bells for you.

Well, hope this helps some - and feel free to write me with allied names, as all these families seemed to intermarry.

Nan Schichtel
schichtn@gvsu.edu
