I read the message with great interest. I had also heard that the name "Kipling" was supposed to come from the name of an Anglo-Saxon tribe. (how cool is that!) But I have not come accross any hard evidence to support this? Is this just speculation? What is the source? Where does this information come from? I was about 25 before I met another Kipling, who was not another relative.

If you can clarify the Lockwood/Kipling link (other than the fact that Frances Lockwood married Joseph Kipling) I should be most interested. Do you have any information on the birth of William Lockwood of Skelton in Cleveland (Rudyard Kipling's great grandfather). I know that his daughter Jane married a Skelton farmer in Whitby which is where my Lockwood family were living at the time. I am assured of some sort of link but that is unproven as yet.

Hi I've just discovered Lionel Kipling in my tree too, I'm wondering if his parents were from another village nearby. I'm in the process of researching the IGI info on another site. I have found some of the descendants of Lionel and Elizabeth Camron and have found their marriage record. Not yet found the parents of Lionel but may have found the parents of Elizabeth..

Hi Sue,
Not sure if you've found your answers for the Kipling connection as happened upon your query by chance-maybe this will help!
John Lockwood Kipling(Rudyard's father)was married to
Alice Brown MACDONALD , daughter of Reverend George Browne MacDonald and Hannah Jones. (John Lockood himself was the son of Reverend Joseph Kipling and Francis Lockwood.)
Could this be your MacDonald link? If so you have a very impressive family with links to Edward and Stanley Baldwin , Edward Poynter and Lord Byrne-Jones! Hope this helps.

My grandmother was Ruth Starr Balestier. Her grandfather, Robert Starr Balestier, was Caroline's uncle. If you would like any info on the Kipling and Balestier lineage, it would be under my family tree on Ancestry.com. Balestier, or you may contact me through Ancestry.com.

Michelle. can you give me any clues to the Lockwood _Kipling connection. We are from the Lockwoods of Whitby Yorkshire and there has been a story in the family through the Macdonald line that we are related to the John Lockwood Kiplings. We cannot find a connection through johns wife so wonder if it is through the Lockwoods.
regards Sue

Hi I am researching my family tree. My grandfather was Hugh Ralph Kipling Denton and I believe his grandmother was May Denton (possibly nee Agnes May Kipling). I think she married William Denton and lived in Alnmouth, Northumberland, England. We are trying to find the link between May and Rudyard as they were supposed to be cousins. So far I have found possibly her father was Frances Lawrence Kipling but that's as far as I have got to.

Kiplings in Melfort, Saskatchewan

I was born to Don and Donna Signori in 1974. Donna Signori is the daughter of Archie and Dora (Stasiuk) Kipling, born in Melfort, Saskatchewan. Archie's dad was Frank Kipling, (who was married to Geneva Mae Ledger). Frank's dad was Robert Burns Kipling, (who was married to Margaret Jane Bissell).
In the 'family tree' section I found Kipling information as far back as 1720 something. Pretty neat.
From Archie Kipling's family:
Arlin Kipling - Living in Montreal, Quebec (wife Joan, adult daughters Caroline, Diane and Arlene)
Robert Wayne Kipling - Living in Oshawa, Ontario (wife Caroline, adult son Gregory)
Linda Biddle (nee Kipling) - Living in Oshawa, Ontario (husband Devon Biddle, adult sons David and Alan and adult daughter Nancy)
Garry Kipling - died in Melfort, Saskatchewan in 1997.
Donna Signori (nee Kipling) - Living in Toronto, Ontario (husband Don Signori, adult daughters Vanessa and Rachel, adult son Dante)
Betty Kipling - Living in Toronto, Ontario (adult daughter Cynthia, adult sons Chris (stepson), Marlon and Alexander).

We still have land in and around Melfort, Saskatchewan because my uncle Garry had taken over my grandpa Archie's farm when he passed away... and when my uncle passed, the land was left to the family. My parents plan to move back to Melfort one day. I also plan on moving back to Melfort one day myself!

The John Kipling b.21 December 1793 is contained within one of my family trees . This family group starts with Gyles Kipling b.c1600 and includes 12 generations.

BUT this John Kipling has no connection with John Kipling of Rupertsland. JK of Rupertsland was born on the 27 April 1724. and on the 30 Aug 1772 was enrolled into service with the HBC (Albany Fort). If you would like further details then let me know where you are located and I will let you know of an archive which has over 300 hundred pages of JK records. Though the first 30 pages, which knock "the shoot out at the OK corral" into a cocked hat can be made available to you.

Re: Kilcool in North America

Michael, I am very interested in your posting. Unfortunately, I am not able to assist you in connecting your Gr Gr Gr Gr Grandfather to his London family, but I have a similar situation in my research.

Your posting contains this passage:

Notes for CHARLES COOK:
Dec 15, 1818 [Fort Hibernia] "Sent Kilcool, Uckachen (Gaddy's son) & Chas Cook . . . to fetch some
meat" (HBCA Reel 1M117, B.159/a/7)

I'm interested in the passage because my ancestor - my Gr Gr Gr Gr Grandfather - is Michael Kilcool. Michael Kilcool was born abt. 1788 in Ireland and came to Canada in 1812. The Canadian Immigrant Records, Part Two database at Ancestry.com shows:

Kilcool, M.; Year of Record: 1812; Source/Event: List of settlers and servants engages for the Hudson's Bay Company and Lord Selkirk, 1812; Reference: Transcribed from (film of) original documents held in the collection of the National Archives of Canada [Ottowa]: NAC, Thomas Douglas, 5th Earl of Selkirk, MG 19 E1, vol. 2, page 561 reel C-1.

Michael settled in the Red River Settlement in Manitoba in the 1820's and married Cecilia Turpin in 1828. With the exception of Red River Settlement census records - which indicate Michael came from Ireland - I have no leads for his family or origin. I took a trip to Winnipeg to research Hudson Bay records, but I found nothing more on Kilcool than microfilm of the census information I already had. That is why I am so interested in the above passage. What is it from? How do I get my hands on it? Would it contain more about Kilcool? Thank you for any help you can provide.

My site: http://forefolk.homestead.com/

Sandy
My great great grandfather was named Robert Kipling and was from Barton, He married a woman called Hannah and also had a daughter by that name although she was born in 1868. I do not have any details about Roberts father but Robert's son, Thomas (my great grandfather) was born in Coundon in 1870. Do you think there could be a link here.

Regards

Thomas

I recently got an inquiry from a UK resident named Sheila who is researching KIPLINGS. She inquired about an E E KIPLING (male) who emigrated to the US from a ship London to NY and who was born in about 1847. Does anyone have any possible link to this individual? If so, I'm sure this person has a lot to share. She is a member of Genes Reunited in the UK but I would be willing to act as go between to further the research.
