Kiracofe and Bailey

Hi. it is amazing when I have time, that i find old threads such as these, to answer questions that have been driving me mad for years.
I have been in touch with Rita Moss in the past. i wasn't too much on the Kiracofe side at the time, although my interest has peaked now. I am also from the George and Elizabeth (Kiracofe)Bailey line. My interest is primarily the Bailey's, but am developing an interest on the Kiracofe's. i was under the assumption that Elizabeth was the first Kiracofe in the Allen Co. ohio area, but i guess i am mistaken. I was recently in the Lima/Elida/Rockport area's looking at the cemeteries, and finding a few kiracofe's in the Elida greenlawn cemetery. I noticed the main road in Elida being named after a/the Kiracofe's, and would like to know who it was named after,if anyone knows.
Also, any help from anyone else in my line, would be very much appreciated.

thank you
Dan Shively II

You mentioned that you have photos of Anna Kerlin. I am curious to know if it's the same Anna Kerlin from Louisiana, born 1856 in Georgia and died March 26, 1916 in Louisiana. Her father was Samuel Kerlin born in 1825.

If you believe there is a connection I would love to hear from you.

Jerry Linney

Hello! I am researching my family tree and came across your post on a message board. I thought you might like to know that I am a direct descendant of Johann Friedrich Kirchhoff from his 1st marriage to Catharine Bowman Wacker. After she died he then married Barbara Koontz, your apparant ancestor. It was Henry (George) Kiracofe from whom I am descended, then his daughter Barbara Catherine Kiracofe who married James Addison Wolfe, then Robert Henry Wolfe, Carl Edward Wolfe, Helen Jane Wolfe Carolus, and my maiden name was Deborah Carolus. What a small world this is! Good luck on your future searches!

Deb Sidener twosides@watchtv.net

Thank you all for posting the info on the Kiracofe family!!!1

First, I want to thank you all for posting the Kiracofe information on this message board. Sometimes I find that people ask other to e-mail them privately, which is alright but does not get the information out there to others.
Second; I am doing the family tree of a friend of mine from our church. She knew I was "addicted" to genealogy and when we compared notes found that we both had family from Virginia, (we live in Trumbull County, Ohio now).
This is how her family tree goes back to the Kiracofes in Augusta County, Virginia.

Living Perkins
parents: Arthur Perkins m. Dorothy McGowan
grandparents: Arthur Perkins Sr. m. Jeanette Andrews
gr-grandparents: James Henry Andrews m. Julia O'Brien
gr-gr-grandparents: John Henry Andrews m. Josephine McCall
gr-gr-gr-grandparents: Henry Andrews m. Mary Kiracofe
gr-gr-gr-gr-grandparents: George Kiracofe m. Jane Woodell
gr-gr-gr-gr-gr-grandparents: Johann Friedrich Kiracofe m. Barbara Koontz

As far as I know most of these people lived in Augusta County. The Perkins came from Maryland and before that Wales. The O'Brien's I'm not sure about yet. I know that Julia O'Brien's father was John O'Brien and they lived in Williamsville, Bath County, VA in 1870-1880. He was married to a Paulina Owens. John O'Brien was born in Ireland and Paulina (might have went by Mary too) Owens was born in either Ireland or in PA.

Without everyone taking the time to put in their connections I would have been very confused for a long time! Thank you again for filling in the blanks for me.

Notice that the Perkins/Andrews family moved also to Ohio, some in search of jobs and some in search of land.

Carol from Ohio

Martin Luther Kiracofe

Martin Luther Kiracofe was the first cousin of my grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Andrew. According to the genealogy put out by Lula Miller in the early 1980s, the children of Henry Albert Kiracofe and Hester Juanita Messenger are:
Daniel Wayne Kiracofe; Cary Lee; Gregory Albert; and Brian Jay. No marriages are listed.

The children of Alfred Charles Kiracofe and Maureen Helen Messenger are:
Julen Adele; Jon Frederick; Jerry David; Jennifer Kay; Julie Ann; Joyce Ann.
Again no marriages are listed.

My great grandmother was Susanna Kiracofe married to James Madison Andrew. She was a sister to John Van Lear Kiracofe, the father of Martin Luther.

John Wesley Kiracofe had a twin sister who died at age 14. He also had triplet brothers, James Herbert, Joseph Harvey, and Ira Blair Kiracofe. Ira Blair died at birth. The early history of the United Brethren Church and the Methodist Episcopal Church are closely interlinked. In fact the two churches worked close together, the Methodist Episcopal for the English speaking people and the United Brethren for the German speaking people. Until the first church building expressly built for the United Brethren in the Shenandoah Valley, the services took place in either the people's homes, in a Mennonite Meeting House where available, but more often in the Methodist Episcopal Church which fostered them. Because the Shenandoah Valley depended on the Circuit Rider, the UB often turned to the ME ministers to perform marriages, etc. Most of the work took place then at the various Camp Meetings based on the same idea as the Methodist. You should contact me directly. My e-mail address is wrshindle@erols.com

Kiracofe Messinger descendants

I am looking for the descendants of Alfred C. Kiracofe his twin brother--Albert Kiracofe. Both were believed to have been born in Gratis Twp., Preble Co., Oh. to Martin Luther Lucy Eby Kiracofe. They married Helen Maurine Messinger Hester Juanita Messinger (daughters of Noah D. Gertrude Bartrug Messinger granddaughters of David Angeline Ream Messinger), respectively. Alfred Helen had Joline Adele, Jan Fredonia, Jerri David, Joyce Ann and Julianne Kiracofe. Albert Hester had Daniel Wayne, Gary Lee, Gregory Albert Brian Jay Kiracofe.

Does anyone have anymore information on, or anymore of, these Kiracofe Messinger descendants?

I apologize for the lateness of my reply; I'm afraid computer problems with the old computer, and then other problems, kept me from replying to my dozens of dozens of posts online.

Thanks for the reply telling who the children of Albert Kiracofe and Alfred Kiracofe are. It should help in updating this branch of the Ream Family Tree.

I don't ever recall seeing Albert Kiracofe's full name as "Henry Albert Kiracofe". Does Mrs. Miller say what the source for this was?

Thanks to the late Verda Ream Pifer and to Allyn Scott Messinger, I have a good deal of information on the Kiracofe branches of our Ream Family Tree. However, there are individuals who were born in the '60's & '70's in the Kiracofe lineage, who probably married & had children, but I have no knowledge of such. Maybe you could help me in updating and/or correcting what I have on the Kiracofe branch of our family tree.

To find out what I have, go to <www.familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/r/e/a/William-Henry-...; and click on the "Genealogy Report: Descendants of John Philip Ream". Follow the following lineage: 1) Philip Ream, 2) George Ream, 3) Samuel D. Ream, 4) Angeline Ream, 5) Noah Daniel Messinger. Noah Daniel Messinger (as shown above) is the father of Helen & Hester Messinger, who married Alfred & Albert Kiracofe, respectively.

Hope to hear back from you soon!

William (Bill) Henry Ream, Jr.--a fourth great-grandson of the above named George Ream

Elizabeth Kiracofe married Bailey VA moved to OH

Elizabeth Kiracofe Bailey daughter of John Kiracofe and Susan Woodell married George Bailey in 1848 In Augusta Co, Va
I know she moved to Allen Co, Ohio after 1860. They joined her Kiracofe brothers. Elizabeth and George's daughter was
my great-grandmother ( Isabel Elizabeth also know as Bell L.) she married John Rockhill in Rockport, Allen Co, Oh. Their daughter Sarah Rockhill Goldsmith was my grandmother.

I would love to make the connection with all of the Kiracofes I find in Allen Co. and also find which Baileys belong to George and Elizabeth. If this is your family would you be so kind as to let me know. Mr Richard Shindle gave me some of the Augusta Co, Va information and the tie in to Woodell, Wackers Erwin, and other families. I would just love to get the Allen County, Kiracofes and other Ohio families into my family records. Like everyone else I waited till my mother and most of her family passed away before I tried chasing this line. I wonder why they left Virginia during the Civil War. Did it have to do with the Kiracofe families views or religion. Is there anyone who can answer this question?

We had a lenghty conversation this morning with my husband's sister in Wichita, Ks. She is nearing 80 years and this information has been especially a blessing to her. She remembers there was a Kiracofe book in her family but when her father's brother (Samuel William b. 16 June 1887 died, it was lost somehow to the family.) Samuel Henry Kiracofe is my husband's grandfather. You should be aware that the time you have taken to fill us in will be a great blessing to very many Kiracofes. Our son has just had his second set of twins! We have been curious as to whether or not there is a twin birth history in my husband's family. I am recently retired and my husband is partially retired (Civil Engineering) and we have finally had time to research and very fortunately for all of us this wonderful tool of the internet is now available. However, without generous persons such as yourself I am afraid we would hit a brick wall in many instances. The Kiracofe heritage is indeed a rich one. Somehow we lost the United Brethren connection evolving into Methodists. But with a name like John Wesley there must have been some Methodist influence somewhere. We have traced my own lineage back to Nicholas (S)trausbaugh, becoming Trosper from Alsace Lorraine, Gm. It was only by God's good grace and after many hours of toil that I saw that Strausbaugh had evolved into Trosper. The name evolvement makes it almost impposible to effectively trace unless there is someone like yourself who can and will share information. We are very grateful for this last message. We are pulling together as much information as we can and hope to have it updated with recent descendents. Your heritage is indeed very rich from both sides. It is a good thing to know and take joy in knowing. THANK YOU AGAIN!

To Richard Shindler THANK YOU! You have given us our ancestors! Samuel Henry Kiracofe is my husband's grandfather. We are searching LDS sites, so far we have John Wesley Kiracofe (if you have LDS center near you the microfilm on J. W. Kiracofe as the author of Early United Brethrenism, FHL US/CAN 1206 419 item 17 can be reviewed in its entirety.) As we gain information we will post it for you. Again THANK YOU very much we are encouraged!

Our family Kiracofes of Kansas had a book but relative let it get away. If your books have anything re: Kiracofes of Kansas we will very gladly reimburse for any information you can supply. We are hitting a brick wall with all of the evolving of our name. The main fact we have about our family is there are many ministers including John Wesley Kiracofe, listed as an autor in the LDS records. Thank you so much for any help. Family names Samuel William, Louis, Lewis Kiracofe.

It is very encouraging to see so many of our own family names in your message. Our family Kiracofe from Ohio settled in Kansas, Grandfather Samuel William, father: Louis (or Lewis) brother Samuel William. Any information very much appreciated, we are attempting family tree but due to evolving of family name (for spelling purposes we are sure) it is proving daunting to say the least. Good luck on your own search.
