Marion,
I only know that there is a group from Chicago that I believe descends from Frank Kiraly.
With Kiraly a very common name all over Hungary, there are many different groups.
If I remember correctly you have asked me for info before, I have given you what I had. I wish I could help you more.
Good Hunting
Cathie

Sorry, I don't get on the message boards very often. It is me that posted the photos. They are now in my Joseph Ferenc Kiraly Tree.
I do not have info on Bert. After you sent me the email, I looked into history on Bertram on Ancestry. Just found the basics that I am sure you probably have.
Good luck on your search.
Cathie

Hello,

I have an unusal story about the Kiraly's. A boy named Duilio Kiraly stayed with my German mother in Frankfurt, Germany in the 1950's. Her stepfather was the 2nd husband to a beautiful German fashion model, last name Muth (google:muth Duilio de Kiraly). She worked for Jacques Fath in the House of Fath in Paris during the 1930's and 40's. Muth's 1st husband was a handsome Hungarian actor named Kiraly. They lived in Paris,France and had two children, Barbara and Duilio. Eventually they divorced. Kiraly was a member of the French Resistance against Germany, who occupied France at the time. Muth remarried my mother's step-father Hermann Staiger, a German Luftwaffe Flying Ace, who was stationed in Paris. Rumor has it Kiraly was infuriated by the marriage and was suspected of murdering Muth and her dog in her French Chateau while her two little children Barbara and Duilio were in the house. Many presumed the incident was a casualty of war, the French Resistance possibly, however many suspected Kiraly. I think it might have even gone to trial but I don't know. My mother recalls Duilio never overcoming this. I'm not sure whatever happened to Duilio and Barbara, but maybe there is a connection, the name and location and "taboo" seem to fit. I don't know if this helps but would love to see what you know. Please write back at mayertriplets@yahoo.com if you have any questions. Good luck. Carmen Mayer

I have only a little info on a Victor Kiraly, born in 1887 in Katymar, Hungary - parents were Emericus Kiraly and Maria Siegmund(Sigmond). He had 4 siblings, Adelbertus Bela, born 1890, Otto Johannes, born 1891, Isabella, born 19893, and Cornelius Kiraly, born 1888.

Cornelius (Cornel, Kornel) came to Canada in 1926, and lived in Vancouver, BC. He returned to Hungary during WW2 to fight in the underground, was apparently captured by Germans, tortured, and eventually returned to Vancouver, where he died in 1956.

Hope this helps, if you are still looking.
Lynne

He seems to be listed on the 1930 census as Louis Kiraly b. 1918. The 1920 census taken in January listed Lodialous age 1 yr 6 mos, which I estimated puts his birth year as Jun 1918. SSDI shows a Louis Kiraly b. 5/12/1918 died 4/6/2009 Hammond, Lake, IN, railroad benefit. That would seem to be the same person.

Hi Carol,
I located an Alexander W. Kiraly, born July 4, 1879 of Bukzsercz, Hungary. Died August 13, 1963 in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio. Immigrated in 1905. That information was compiled from the 1930 Federal Census and both WWI and WWII draft registration cards. My great grandfather was a Alexander, his hungarian name was Sandor. Just a FYI bit of info for you. We are not related by this Alex/Alexander/Sandor.
The census shows his wife as Rebecca, born in 1884, Hungary, immigrated in 1907. Married about 1902.
William born 1909, in Hungary per the 1930 census, this may be incorrect considering when his parents immigrated.
William and his wife Kateline are living with his parents in 1930.
Carl A., born abt 1912, also in Hungary, is a taxi driver and living with his parents in 1930 also.
All of this was discovered by looking in the online documents. I don't have them listed in my Kiraly line, but that doesn't mean much! My Kiraly's settled first in NYC, then in Cleveland. It was a large family.
Good Hunting!
Cathie

I'm searching for any information regarding my grandparents, Alex Kiraly and spouse Elizabeth (Papp)Kiraly. They lived on Markison Ave in Columbus, Ohio. Both are buried in Columbus. They had 2 sons, Carl and William. I am the daughter of Carl. Only saw my father once in my life, when I was quite young. The last time I saw my Kiraly grandparents I was 17 or 18 years old, I am now 73. Carl married my mother Lucile Kershner. I really want to know more about my Hungarian heritage. I have been very proud of it all my life. If you have information, email me. Thank You.... Carol

My grandfather was Daniel Kiraly twin brother of Julius L born in Lelcz Hungary 3 29 99, siblings Joesph, William and Mary Helen. They migrated to NY around 1906. My grandfather died before I was born, and my mother now has Alzheimer's, so it is very difficult for me to gather any other family info other then on this site.

Hi,

My great grandparents are Paul and Katherine Kiraly (both born in 1855) of Cleveland, OH. They immigrated to the US in 1874 and 1886 respectively and lived in/near Schenectady, NY before coming to Cleveland with their 4 possibly 5 children. Both their parents came from Hungary. I'm having a hard time finding anything prior back into Hungary, except that they either spoke or came from Magyar (Census). If anyone has any information about this thread, like Katherine's maiden name or further info back to Hungary, please don't hesitate to contact us. I have heard my family say that a relative was a cook for Franz Joseph.

Thank you.

Tom and Kat

I don't know if I can help you, but I will give you some information that may be of interest to you. I have a sister named Helen whom, it was rumored, had a son but I never knew what happened to him. She also had two girls who were put up for adoption (not put in an orphanage) They were both born before 1959. I don't know where they are now. but my sister was contacted by them many years ago and did meet with them. I don't think she has had contact with them for many years though. Helen is a Kiraly by birth, so your father could not be a Joseph Scott Kiraly. If she is your mother, she may have named you after our father whose name was Joseph and gave you the family name of Kiraly. If you think that this information is helpful to you, let me know and I will call her to get some information and ask if she would like you to contact her.I would like to know what was said in the note and would like to see a copy of it, so I could verify her handwriting. There are a lot of missing facts and i dont know them. I have been told i have 2 older sisters that were placed in orphanages. I was born on march 5th 1959
at st. annes hospital in cleveland ohio so im not sure about younger siblings because i was a few weeks old when i was givin away. I have a hand written letter written by Helen Kirely, that gave custody to the murphys even though he was never legally adopted was actually handed over on the streets. I have been trying to locate my family for years and this is the closest ive come. Please reply when you get this regardless of the outcome. Call or leave a message @ (614)304-3894 please call asap. thank you so much and God bless you. I need closure and this could benifit you as well .
Hi- I too am a descendant of a Kiraly-Lajos (Louis King) from the MCKeesport, Pa. area to East Chicago, In. His wife was named Elizabeth. According to census info he arrived in 1904/5. They had children in HUngary, W. Va. and Pa. Louis born abt. 1871/72 and Elizabeth b: abt.1880. Elizabeth died between census years -I find them in 1910 and 1930. No record in 1920 at all. They supposedly had 7 children. Any of this sound familiar?

Dear Connie, You and I are definately related. My father was Joseph Kiraly and my mother was Esther Ambrus. My father had a sister, Elizabeth and a brother who disappeared after he left Cleveland to look for work. If Joseph was your grandfather, then you are my neice. I had 11 brothers and sisters. They are, Charles, Bill, Ernest Joseph , Louis, Goldie, Helen, Eleanor, Esther, Threasa and me, Margaret. (Bill and Threasa are deceased.) Since I have lost contact with much of the family, I wonder who your parents are? I have been trying to trace the family tree for quite some time and have come to a dead end, which hopefully will be better when the records from Ellis Island are released some time next year.My father talked about Ellis Island and I know that they came through there. I think Aunt Elizabeth came first. My parents met in her boarding house and I believe, married shortly thereafter. My father worked in a coal mine in West Virginia and then moved to Akron. I am not sure of the date, but my brother Charlie, who is the oldest, would probably know. I would be interested to hear from you again. Maybe between the two of us, we can obtain more answers regarding this complicated family.

Dear Jan, I was happy to get your message. I was wondering how old you are and how much you can remember about where your grandfather came from? I really don't know what my father's missing brother's first name was and neither does my oldest brother who doesn't even remember him. HOWEVER it could very well have been Michael since that was my granfather"s first name. I think in Hungary it would have been "Mihaly". I have trying to get information on that missing brother for many years. Do you know if he ever talked about a sister named Elizabeth or a brother named Joseph? If so, then we might have something here. By the way, Connee did turn out to be my neice. I did not know of her (altho I did know her mother many years ago)an have even spoken to her on the phone. I look forward to hearing from you again. Margert Savarese

Dear Jan, I was happy to get your note. I'm sorry that I do not know my long lost uncle's first name. I was told as a child, but can't remember it. It may well have been Michael (or Mihaly in hungarian) because of my grandfather's name. He may have been named after his father as he was the oldest son. My Aunt Elizabeth told me that he was in Cleveland with the family, and during the depression, left to look for work and was never heard from again. They tried to find him by advertising in different papers but had no luck and after quite a few years went by, they just gave up and assumed that he was probably dead. I remember that my Aunt cried a lot over him. Anyway, if you could give me some more information as to the time frame, maybe we can make something out of all this. By the way, it turned out that Connee is my neice and we have had a grand time communicating with one another. Hope to hear from you again. Sincerely, Margaret Savarese

Dear Jan, I received your last message and decided to do a little more research, because other than the time frame for when my uncle left there are too many other similarities. To ignore them may be a mistake, don't you think? My parents had eleven children. I am the middle child. My oldest brother sent me a list of all the children's birth rotation and I see that my brother, Charles, was born in Charleston, WV in 1918. The next child was born in Ky in 1920, the next child was born in Labata, WV in 1923 and another child was born in Gary WV in 1926. That tells me that they moved around within the area where the coal mines were. My oldest brother has no memories of our uncle so he must have been very young when my uncle left to look for work elsewhere. In 1929 my brother would have been eleven years old and he would have some memories of that uncle, but since he does not, that tells me that my uncle must have left much earlier than the depression. Have you any idea how old he was when he died? My father was born in 1895 and his brother was older than he was. ( I don't know how much older) If we can figure this out, we may have something here. Hope to hear from you again. Margaret Savarese

Dear Jan, I should have told you this in my last message. My father was also good with plants, he made excellent wine and was a jack of all trades. He knew all the trades and did them all equally well. These things generaly run in families wouldn't you say? Hope to hear from you again. Margaret

Dear Jan, This is getting very exciting. Things seem to going right along. I think the next step would be for you to e-mail those pictures you mentioned. There is a picture somewhere of my uncle. It was taken by a professional photographer. He was posed standing with his hand on a table or a chair,as they were in those days. He was dressed in a suit and was very handsome. If I find that picture, I will send it to you. I will give you my e-mail address. Perhaps it would be easier for us to communicate and you can send thepicture directly to me over the net. It is masa121@juno.com
Hope to hear from you soon. Margaret
