I am hoping to find some information regarding the family of William Kirby of Baltimore, MD. He was born app 1815 and married Elizabeth. Their second child, James Knox Polk Kirby-born 1844, was my great-grandfather.

It appears William's father may have also been William. They lived in the east Baltimore area and the family were mostly ships carpenters. Potential relatives of William are Sullivan, Edward, Calvin, and Loftus, although this is conjecture at this point. I am using census and directory records so far.

My grandmother said that her Kirby family were Scots-Irish. I assume William's grandfather or great-grandfather immigrated from Ireland. Many of the Scots-Irish immigrants came in the 1700's.

Does anyone know of Scots-Irish (Ulster) Kirbys immigrating at that time? Does this Kirby family sound familiar to anyone? I have a great deal of information on the later family and will share what I have with anyone who needs it. Thanks.
