Hi Carole,

My Dad is called Lincoln Kennedy and his Mum was called Eunice Kirton before she married. They lived in St Phillip. He had a cousin called Arthur Kirton(sadly we attended his funeral yesterday)Arthur's mother was called Carnetta Kirton and at the funeral one of his sons said we had a conection with the famous David Kirton. I had wondered about this as he has similar features to my dad.

I would love to show the pictures you have to my dad and his 2 brothers and 1 sister. (my Dad was born in the 40's)

I don't have any pictures in the UK but hopefully I wil get to Barbados later in the year and see what my uncle has.

Any connection, pictures or inormayion you have would be great.

Thanks Nic

Hi, Mary!

My connection to Thomas Edward Carwardine is rather extended but I'll try to make it easy to follow. My paternal grandmother was Harriet Eliza Brown, the daughter of Timothy William Brown and Eliza Ann Carwardine. Eliza Ann Carwardine was a sister of Thomas Edward Carwardine. I have traced the Carwardine family back to about 1750, when this branch was living in Herefordshire. I have a lot more detail of the descendants and would be happy to share. It would probably be more efficient if you contacted me directly (email: rdpearce1@aol.com) and we can exchange information more freely.

Regards

Ron

Hi Mark and Ron
My great grandmother, Jessie, was one of Thomas Carwardine's many children. Thomas had Mardock's Mill at Wareside (there's a lovely painting of this in Ware Museum). A cousin and I are researching this family history. I would really like to know what you have managed to find out about them - we have quite a lot of information but I'm not sure how much of it is correct. What relation are you to Thomas?
Regards
Mary

Hi Andrea,
My name is Ranleen Lloyd (married)
I am a Kirton from Guyana, My dad always told us that we were related to the Kirtons from Barbados but we never had any contact. I presently live in Antigua, my Dad Randolph Kirton still lives in Guyana along with two of my sisters Rolinda and Randinda. My other sister Ranelsa lives in New York. I have recently started trying to trace the origin of the Kirtons online and to find Kirtons as we may be related.
My sister in New York did tell me she made contact with some Kirtons in the US.

Ranleen

Dear Charla.... What a thrill to hear from you!!!! it would seem that Elsie Lyon Kirton is your great grandmother AND my great grandmother. She had a love affair with my great grandfather John Crook while she was working as a maid in his mother and step father's home. The result was my grandmother Maggie Lyon. So.... your grandfather Charles and My grandmother Maggie were half brother and sister! I was born and raised in Aberdeen but I now live in the San Francisco Bay area. I have a photo of Maggie and I will e-mail it to your sister. I would be happy to share more information with you and I would be over the moon if anyone in your family had a photo of Elsie. I didn't even know her name until about six years ago. I got her description from a ship's manifesto and she sounds like my mother. Thrilled again to hear from you!!
So long for now "cuz."
My e-mail is dioljo@sbcglobal.net
Cheers
Diane

Mark, I think I can help here. Thomas Edward Carwardine (b: 9 May 1833 in Rochester, Kent) married Emma Kirton (b: 1842 in Shoreditch, London) at Ware, Hertfordshire, in 1860. He was a Corn Chandler. They appear to have had 11 children - I have details - and lived in Shoreditch from about 1861 to 1875 brfore moving to Ware in 1876. By 1881 they had moved back to London and Emma's death was registered in Holborn in 1890. Thomas was back in Ware in 1891 and his death was registered in Newport Pagnell in 1894. Many of his children sem to have settled in Bromley, Kent.

Regards, Ron

hi
Was Elizabeth's married name Wainwright as i have Thomas and Elizabeth Wainwright as witnesses on Richard and Ivy's marriage cert.?
I also have copies of Henry and Mary's marriage cert;John Mckevitt and Charlotte Pughs marriage cert. and Mary Mckevitt's birth cert.
Don't know if you have this info.but i can give you all the details if you like.
With a little help from census returns and I.g.i transcripts and of course the certs. it appears that Charlotte Pugh's father was Benjamin Pugh, born in Liverpool and her mum wsa Margaret Cannan born in the Isle of Man .They moved to i think it was Worsley and Benjamin was a tailor.Lodging with them at one time was John Mckevitt and his widowed mother Mary who were from Ireland (John's father was Patrick Mckevitt also a tailor).Mckevitt was spelt Mccivit on their marriage cert.
Chris

hi elspeth........ here is the answer to the mystery of the 1841 census for the family of mortons you require. the family are mis-indexed as morson!! just search for john morson b.1798 in durham county and that'll be the one you need. in total i have found 12 children of john morton and ann hindson, all born & christened at tanfield, (some died early on). they are william b.1826, james b.1828, john b.1830, ann b.1832, thomas(my direct ancestor) b.1834, margaret b.1835, hannah b.1836, sarah b.1838, alice b.1840, james b.1843, henry b.1845, henry b.1846. all the christening info can be found using www.familysearch.org website. if you want in the future we can use our personal e-mail facilities to correspond further?? just let me know. regards....... tony

hi.... if you are confirming that your james morton was born 1843 in tanfield then i can tell you that your james was one of 12 children (but not all survived childhood). my direct ancestor was one of james' older brothers thomas born abt 1834 in tanfield. the morton tree from that point springs back to 1580 in gainford, durham, although the earliest morton i have is john morton born abt. 1740 in tanfield and his parents were matthew and mary. perhaps we could exchange further information if you wish. regards.

Many thanks for replying. Yes, James was from Tanfield. My mother's maternal line were Mortons. Her grandfather, James Morton (name clearly handed down), brought up his two daughters alone after losing his wife, Frances Grey, in her late 20s. My grandmother, Lilian Morton, was 'quite a tour de force', I gather. Where are you linked to James and Jane? Be fascinated if you have anything further on either.
Kind regards,
Elspeth

Hi. Yes, the name James subsequently handed on. I saw Thomas, your ancestor, on the 1851 census. Having difficulties tracing the family member on 1841 census. Cannot locate the large collection of syblings, e.g. Hannah, Sarah, Ann. Were Thomas and Hannah twins?

If you can provide anything on the mysteris of the '41 census, I'd be grateful. I can certainly give you the information on James Morton's path to present.

Kind regards,
Elspeth

My email: evm64@tiscali.co.uk

I've seen so many examples of census returners mis-spelling or, in the case of my grandfather's surname, Corten, changing to the nearest equivalent, in my case, Kirton. They were Irish so...

I have a scan only of James Morton, my great grandfather (mother's grandfather).
