I think your Sarah Kissel may be connected to our family. I believe our Sarah was born in 1838, in Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of Jacob and Nancy Kissel/ Kissell. I found your Sarah in the 1860 census, married to William Fondersmith. Her age in the census is 22 (born about 1838) and her place of birth is Pennsylvania. I believe these two Sarahs are the same person, but so far can't be positive. She is living in Truro, Franklin Co., Ohio which is where our family was living at that time. If I can help further, please let me know.

My branch of the Kissell family also comes from Cornwall, UK. My Gr-Gr-Grandfather was John William Kissell who arrived in Nelson, New Zealand in 1865. He was a copper miner and came to NZ to manage a mine in the Nelson region. I am told he also had a brother who manged a copper mine in South Africa.

I found a copy of the article. The article was writtten mon, Dec. 17, 1951 of Sanfrod Herald. James has two sisters in England that died leaving him the only survining child. It does not give the fathers name. The sister's names are Polly and Emma. The article is told by a miss Hayes Kissell who is a grand-daughter of James Kissell. Send me your email address and I will get it to you.

I've heard the story about property in London but never about it being a church. My grandfather (one of James Kissell's sons) told the story and inquired of English authorities to learn more. That was in 1954 as I have the postmarked envelope from London. I was young at the time and have no memory of the details. Can the article you mentioned be scanned and emailed to me? I would like very much to see it. <br>

I have a newspaper clipping on the Kissell's having property in England that was unclaimed. The English government was looking for the heirs but this is from the 80's. My grandfather said he could claim it but he would have to give up his US citizenship and he did not want to do that. It is a church and cementry in London. It was said that the father was the minster and there was a fight about religion beliefs and the son left England to start his own church in Cumnock NC. does this help you any it is just hear say but it seems to hold a little truth in there somewhere.

1893 Marriage in Baltimore of Hannah Kissell (PA) and Kephart Pfeffer (MD)

Today in a consignment shop near Fort Meade Maryland I saw a marriage licence and an accompanying marriage certificate dated August 17, 1893 for Kephart Pfeffer and Hannah May Kissell, who were married by a Pastor J.K. Comadi of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baltimore City. A quick check at ancestry.com indicates that this couple lived at 635 Main Street in Reisterstown in 1930 and their married son, Kephart, and his wife Mary and daughter Mary lived next door. The elder Kephart Pfeffer appears to be the youngest son of George and Catherine Pfeffer, who lived in Reisterstown in 1870. His older brothers were James, John, Levi, William, Phillip and George. Hannah May Kissell was from Pennsylvania.
