My grandfather was Alf Kittleson and my mother was Shirley.
Alf, Louise and Shirley were all quite humorous and all of them possesed a tremendous, sharp, dry wit.

I don't have much geneology info to share at the moment but I could dig SOME info up for you.
Alf's wife Sadie's maiden name was Roseland.
The Kittleson and Roseland "homesteads" were both near Franklin,WI which is west of Black River Falls,WI.
Maybe some more info could be had from that county.

By the way, there is a Roseland reunion each year usually in one of three places,Kewaskum,Muskego,Franklin, in Wisc.
If you'd like more info or you have any let me know.
My father grew up in Lac Qui Parle county in SW Minnesota (Louisburg, MN). I am not familiar with the names you have given but my family has not been the best with our ancestry.

Could you email me a copy of the picture? A multigeneration al picture is really interesting to me. I am a Kittleson (Actually my branch of the family is spelled Kittelson). The picture you have is of Clara (Harrison) Linicum, with daughter Mabel (Lincicum) Kittleson with daughter, Dorothy Claire (Kittleson) Ingle, with daughter Susan (Ingle) Pastour.

This line of my family comes through Ole Kittleson who is my great grandfather.

Does this help attach the picture to your family? I have many links if you can give a name of an ancestor that my attach to my family history.

W Kittelson

The picture has been retouched and cleared up using computer technology and I will mail a copy, no charge, to anyone interested. The faces are very clear and I will supply in either the original sepia or in black/white in 8"X10" or smaller.

None had been in the Minneapolis, Otter Tail, or Bismark areas.

That said, we had one distant uncle (circa 1860+) that no one seems to know anything about. That name was Ola Kittleson Lona. The Lona part of the name was dropped when they moved to USA and in Norwegian the Ola was also spelled Olå. There were three siblings Ole (ended up in Fertile, MN) , Austin (Whitewater, WI) and last Ola. An old census in Wisconsin along with old church records from Norway semi-confirm this. My decendents were Ole's. Since everyone is long gone and no one knows for sure where or what happened to Ola. Ive also often wondered if Olå was not short for Olaug which infers female.

Might there be a Ole / Olå or Olaug in your family tree?

Might the Ola be any connection?

I have alwys heard that my grandfather Charles Kittleson came over from Norway when he was about 3, he had a brother Henry and also I think, a brother Clarence. My great grandparents I am told settled in the Ottertail County area of Minnesota and farmed there. My grandfather and his siblings ended up in the Bismarck/Velva area of North Dakota. I have visited Little Norway in Mt. Horub WI and have seen pictures of some Kittleson's there but do not have any idea if we are related or not.

Todd -- I wonder if there is a connection somewhere too; however, when I looked up the Dodge County, WI, civil war records there were several Kittlesons and I think two Ole's. We are probably different branches of the same family.
"My" Kittlesons came from Skein, Norway. do you know where yours came from?

Your last name also rings a bell with me -- did you have a maiden aunt or great aunt or someone in your family named Jenny Ellegard who worked for phone company in Duluth, MN? She was a friend of my great uncles and she probably would have been born in the early 1900's? Any relatives in Duluth?

Charlie and Ole Kittelson (many spellings of Kittelson)

Todd,
I would very much like to exchange notes with you. I started my Kittelson family research over a year ago, and have many leads, but sometimes are confusing. My ggrandfather, Ole K ittelson Traaen, came over about 1883 from the Telemark area.
I have now found brothers, Halvor, Kittil, Cjarle (charlie?), and possibly a Karl. They lived in the Minnesota area until about 1900, then moved to the coast in Wash state, working in timber. All the brothers went by the last name of Kittelson (spelled a variety of ways), except my ggrandfather, who went by the last name of Traaen. He possibly was the oldest child. Both Ole and Halvor have listed at their death, the father's name to be Kittil Traaen, and mother Anna. I don't think the mother and father came to the US, but unsure. Ole was born 1855 or 1856 in the Telemark area. Also, does anyone know if there is a town called Telemarken, or Tellemarta ??
One of the brothers married a gal named Malla. Ole had children with 3 different women, 6 children with Berethanna Jensen Aasen Orson, my ggrandmother.\Kay Neubauer nqh@earthlink.net
Thanks
Sonja, are you still out there?

Liz,
I would like to visit with you. I have a letter written in norwegian, that is basically stating where my ggrandfather Ole Kittilsen had worked, and that he was a good worker. At the bottom of the letter, it says"Kaasa i Silgjord den 3 November 1881." I am not sure what this means. If the Kaasa is a name, or what? Then the signature, which I really cannot read, as it is in full old norwegian script,, but I will take a stab at it, P. Oslt ol dalen and below and underlined, Opsynsmand.
This Ole was born in 1855, his brother Halvor in 1858 and brother Kittil in 1864. Kittil and Halvor used the Kittilsen last name, both spelling it differently. Ole used Kittilsen , or the letter K, as a middle name , and used Traaen as a last name. When this letter was written, he called himself Ole Kittilsen Odegaard.
Their father's name was Kittil.
Kay Neubauer nqh@earthlink.net

Just noticed your Jan. 2, 2001 message. My g.grandfather was Rollev (Rollef) Kittilson(Kaasa) also from Telemark, Norway, around 1830. He was married to Gunhild Aareus (or Aarens). They had a son Charlie born in Norway in 1862. Then they had Annie and Julie and finally Robert (my grandfather)in 1874. The three younger children were born in Iowa I think. Who did your mother marry? Is there a connection? This is the first time I've come across the Kaasa name which we thought was possibly the name of the family farm back in Norway.

Kittilson (although for a few years Robert used the last name Rollefson). Robert's father was Rollef Kittilson Kaasa and was born 1821 Telemark County, Norway. He relocated to Minnesota about 1866 and to Winnebago Co. IA in 1867. Rollef's father is listed as Kittel Rollefson.
