Teresa,
I'm hoping you can help me out. I do research for myself and a few friends. One of them has German Kleins who immigrated to the USA mid-19th century. I found the following biography, and I have the family on censuses in the 20th century. I don't have the immigration information. I wondered if you had come across these folks in your research:
"An Illustrated History of the State of Washington, by Rev. H.K. Hines, D.D., The Lewis Publishing Co., Chicago, IL., 1893, pages 498-499
JOHN N. KLINE, proprietor of the Eagle Wine Rooms of Vancouver, was born in Germany, May 11, 1854, a son of Jacob and Catherine (Danier) Kline. John N., the third in a family of six children, came to America in 1877, and enlisted as a musician in the Second United States Cavalry, serving principally in Dakota. He then engaged in business at Cincinnati, Ohio, one year, after which he returned to New York city, and thence to Germany, remaining in the latter country nineteen months. After again coining to America Mr. Kline enlisted in the Fourteenth United States Infantry Band, was assigned to duty at Fort Vancouver February 14, 1885, and was discharged at this place February 14, 1890. He hadengaged in business in Vancouver in 1889, and he now owns both business and residence property, is prominent in business circles, and is connected with the Vancouver Loan and Driving Park Associations.
April 3, 1890, Mr. Kline was united in marriage with Miss Lena Surber, a native of Germany. They have one daughter, Catherine L. In his social relations Mr. Kline affiliates with the Sons of Hermann, is Treasurer of the I.O.R.M., and fills an official chair in the regular Army and Navy Union.

In addition to the above, I have that Lena Surber immigrated from Switzerland in 1870 and that they had two additional children besides the daughter mentioned in the bio:
Theodore R. Klein, b. 11 Jul 1908 in Portland, Oregon; died 11 Dec 1976 in Sacramento, California, USA. On 2 July 1934, he married Catherine Vance Jones in San Francisco, California. They had a daughter, Patricia, who is my friend's mother.
Surber Louis Klein, b. 16 Mar 1895 in Oregon; died 03 Mar 1954 in Nevada. Surber married Cleo Buffim in April, 1920 in Umatilla County, Oregon.
Katherine L. Klein was b. 16 Mar 1892 in Washington (probably Vancouver, just across the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon); died 08 Nov 1973 in Union County, Oregon. She had married a George E. Lowery b. about 1875 in either Illinois or Kansas, and they had two children Evelyn and John. Her name was spelled Kathryn on Tombstone (Hillcrest Cemetery); Katherine on 1910 census; Catharine on 1920 Census. She was living next door to her parents John & Lena Klein with husband George E. Lowery in 1920, Union County, Oregon.
