My great-grandfather was Michael Kmetz and he immigrated from Hungary. He worked at the Iron Works in Phoenixville, PA for a time and then moved his family to the Joliet, IL area. From there I lost him, although my great-grandmother moved back to Phoenixville with 4 of her children. Unfortunately she couldn't keep them and they were farmed out through the Chester County Children's Aid Society. I haven't been able to find 1 of the children from there--Michael. I've tracked Joseph who was in the Navy and buried in San Francisco National Cemetery. Anna was married to Charles West and lived in Atlantic City, NJ but I haven't been able to find where she is buried. Of course I know that my grandfather is buried in Coatesville, PA. One son, John, fell off the tracking at the same time as my great-grandfather. If any of this sounds familiar to you, I'd appreciate any info you may have. Thanks.

Hi,

I am married to a Kevin Kmetz born 1968. He is the son of George Clifford Kmetz born I believe in 1945. Clifford is the son of a Bertha Kmetz and she was the daughter I think a George Kmetz. I will check and see where they originated from but I believe they lived in PA during the late 1800's. I also believe it was (2) brothers. (1) of them definately moved to Newark, NJ. There are many Kmetz's here throughout the state of New Jersey.

Marilyn

I found this thread and had to post, since my name is also Stacey Kmetz! I have never heard of another one with my name, and since it is unusual enough I wondered about your having other relatives in PA or Delaware. I was born in CA, My father, Gerald Kmetz was from Red Lion, PA. He has a brother, John Kmetz who is a professor at the University of Delaware who has done some extensive family tree history on our name "Kmetz"

Anyway I hope this finds all of you Kmetz's out there alive and well!

Please feel free to drop me a line, anytime!

Stacey Lynn Kmetz

Just came upon your June 2004 message. I would be interested in any info you had on "Kmetz" or "Kmec" in PA.
Both my father and grandfather's name was John Kmetz. My grandfather was born in Czechoslovakia around 1880. Lupuhov is the only name I have and I don't know if this is a town or a district. He married Mary Danko June 10,1907 in Johnstown PA. I would appreciate any info.

Konnie (if that name has applied in any recent decade):

This is one of those wild google things now possible. I have no idea whether or not you will even have a clue as to who I am.

Oh, about 45 years ago we were friends for awhile: we played a lot of ball together, for a couple of years on the same team (I was the pathetically weak hitting shortstop, you the Juan Marichal-like pitcher and sometimes outfielder). One summer I broke my hand and you spent some time teaching me to play tennis.

I used to see your father often, sitting in the first base stands at Madison Park.

I think the last time I saw you was when I visited your lab at OSU and you explained something about corn blight to me.

Now, a lifetime later, I live in Bethlehem, PA and teach architecture at Lehigh U. And you live in Delaware and work (retired?) for DuPont.

Again, I don't know if you will know any of this. But Hi anyway.

Bruce Thomas

My mother was Agnes Clara Kmetz, the second youngest child in the family. I think she was born in 1914. Her parents, I think, were Stephen and Anna. Stephen committed suicide in 1936 but his death was listed as lung failure from mining.

My mother was estranged from her family and I have never known any of my relatives.
Unfortunately, while KMETZ is indeed an uncommon surname, I don't believe we have an immediate connection. The Steven KMETZ (1916-1983) in my tree is deceased and lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin. It's possible there is some kind of connection further back, but I don't have any information to support it. Good luck!

My grandfather's sister married Andrew KMETZ (b. 1905 Minneapolis, MN, d. 1981 Robbinsdale, MN). According to Andrew's obituary, he had the following siblings:

George KMETZ (of Moquah, Wisconsin)
Steve KMETZ (of Moquah, Wisconsin)
John KMETZ (of Moquah, Wisconsin)
Michael KMETZ (of Motley, Minnesota)
Joe KMETZ (of Ashland, Wisconsin)
Mary (KMETZ) SANDE (of Moquah, Wisconsin)
Ann (KMETZ) KOCIENDA (of St. Paul, Minnesota)

I'm interested in hearing from anyone knowing anything about these KMETZes.
