New data on my Grandfather Peter Kneff, anyone familar any of the names and can offer information on them I would be must thankful.
fathers Casper Kneff b. ? Germany d. ? Germany ?
mothers Maria (nee?) b. ? Germany d.? Brooklyn, N.Y. ?
was told they had six sons, Peter and Ed are the only names I know. Ed b. ? d. ? USA?
Peter b.27, Jan.1864---Germany d.13, Apr.1918 Brooklyn N.Y.
I have an offical German document with the following dates 27, Jan.1864 (date of birth ?) 14, June1876 and 21, June 1876
don't have a clue to what it is about , on the left bottom corner is Nro.32 Kgl.Centzal-Schulbucher (2 dots over the u) under that is Varlag in Munchen, twomore dots over the u.
The back has two paragraphs of information all is old fashion German print. He died in St Catherines Hosp. Brooklyn, and the death certificte states he lived in New York for 38 years.
From that I guess he got to N.Y. about 1880 with his mother and brothers (no mention of his father) and that he would have been 16 years old. I have his naturalazation papers dated 20, June 1888. He married Caroline (Carrie) Metzger either 1880 or1890* ?. Found a Carrie Metzger, Spouse unknown, year of marriage 1889 in Mannhattan, N.Y. Certificate Number 7872, in the Broolykn L site.Don't know if this could have been my Grandmother. They had three children a son my father Andrew Adolphus (Baptised Peter)
he was b. 11, Dec. 1891* d.11, Aug. 1949 buried Cypress Hills National Cemetery Brooklyn.
d. May b. ? d. ? Buried ?
d. Carrie b. ? d. ? Buried ?
Peter and Caroline were divorced sometime before 1904 ?
She then married John Hippold my step-grandfather ( whom I had heard that Peter had help to come to the US), sthey had two daughters, Rosina b. 1904 d.16, Feb 1925 age 21
Frances b. Mar. 1917, she married Frank Walters (Lt. Comm. USN Ret.)they had two children:
Caroline b.30, July, 1941
Edward b.26, Jan.; 1950
After Frank died she married a man named Smith and moved to Cinn. Ohio, died there. date ? buried ?
Peter was buried in St Johns Cemetery Middle Village, N.Y. on 16, Apr. 1918, my grandmother was also buried in St. Johns but in a different section, she died in the 1930's. I think it was in the 70's I visited the cemetery and found where my grandmothes grave was and I think were were two other names on the head stone beside hers, never thought to write down the info at that time. I also found were my grandfather was buried and it had no head stone, but there may be another person buried there also.his was Grave 2 according to papers I got from St.Johns ???. The only other thing I remember seeing as a kid was a picture of a man dressed like a cowboy "Wooly Chaps and a ten Gallon hat" my grandmother told me that was Uncle Ed, now I don't know if that was her brother or my grandfathers. I"m the last in my family and have no one to ask now.....
