ALBERT KNEIP OF KNEIP CORNED BEEF.

Hi, my name is Hannah Fitzsimmons, I am from Wisconsin, and I know that I'm related to Albert Kneip of Kneip corned beef. He comes from my Grandmother's side, the Brohmans. How are we all related? I'd like to know a little more about him. It's always interesting to go to the store in March and see the Kneip Corned Beef, which if i may add, is honestly the best corned beef out there:)

I do not think it is related. The Matthew Kneip I have had two daughters with one wife and then one son with his last wife. This is my son's father's line so I don't have a lot on it quite yet. Thanks so much and good luck!

I would definately be interested in comparing information. Matthew Kneip was my great-great grandfather. I'm wondering if it's the right Matthew though. He had a son name Frank born 3/12/1904? I will need to look closer into my records but am definately hoping we are related. I look forward to speaking with you further. Please feel free to email me on my email of sunruh13@hotmail.com because I think it will work better. (I check it more often). Have a great one!

I was wondering if you could tell me your great-grandmother Susanna Kneip's brother's and sister's names or the names of your parents. My great-grandparents names are Frank & Bernice Kneip - Frank's father was Matthew Kneip. I haven't been able to get any further from Matthew and am hoping there is a connection with your great-grandmother. I am hoping we are connected somehow. Thanks!

Where was your Fred Mattfield? I don't have any record of an Olga Panter. My birthfather is Fred Mattfield, Jr. of Tacoma, WA. He is the only son of Fred Mattfield, Sr.(Freidrich Mattfeld) b.1905, d. 1964, married to Phyllis M. Kneip. Freidrich( Fred, sr.) came over to the US thru Ellis Island in July 1923. He received US citizenship in 1936 while in Hawaii and served in the US Army during WWII.
We may still be related, just not very closely. I've never made a connection to Germany yet.

Hi, Marylou,

I'm in Columbus, OH at a conference right now (and might get up to the state archives later today if there's a bus). I really don't know much about the other branchs of the family beyond what's on the web and what's in the Satterthwaite book (which is at home). Suicide has occurred more than once, which makes me wonder whether there was a streak of depression in the family. Alvah committed suicide and there was at least one Keneipp who died in a state hospital (per my 3rd cousin) and one who died of acute alcoholism.

According to my notes, a copy of the will has been published (it may be reprodced in the Satterthwaite book)--I can see if there's a copy of the will in the archives if I get up there today, but my impression is that those are kept at the county level.

I'll try to get back to your message when I get back from Columbus next week and see if the Satterthwaite book (which has some inaccuracies as all of these do) has more on the lines you're interested in.

Hi,
I am looking for information on the (1825)will of Christian keneipp. In it he names the children of Lucy his daughter and David French's Children: Austin, Almira,Augden, Eli and Alvah. I believe that david was killed in 1826 according to a painesville telegraph post. I am looking for their children. I am a decendent of Austin and I have him and his descendents to now. There is information that on the net that shows david as actually DAvid Ide French and his wive Mary, But this is incorrect.
Do you have a copy of Christian's Will?
Any information on the rest of lucy keneipp and David French's children? IF so i would love to hear from you.
I have most info on Austin born 1812, and i believe that ogden committed Suicide ( Painsville, OH telegraph shows a augden or Ogden French, suicide; Aug 2, 1866 P3 col 3:
Suicide.--We learn that Mr. Ogden French, of LeRoy in this county, committed suicide by hanging himself on Monday morning of last week, No cause, it is said can be assigned for the commission of the act. He leaves a wife and five children.)
Any information on this family would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Marylou French Weisenburger
Have no knowledge of a Peter Kneip. If you Grandpa died as recently as 5 years ago, he would have had to be a great great grandson of John Kneip. It is a possibility that John Kneip had a brother by this name, and would be a different branch of the family. I have no means of checking this. I am heading for the Baltic States next month, as that is where they came from, and hope to find further information from Govt. archives over there. Thanks for replying. Peter Woodward.

This might be a small lead for you.

http://www.lthforum.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=119427&sid=2d...

It includes following:

Bromann Brothers did in fact exit the cabinet making business by 1976. By that time they were producing very little in terms of commercial cabinetry, and were primarily involved in custom cabinets and repairs/refurbishments of existing cabinets.

As means of a little company history, my great-great-grandfather Heinrich Bromann came to the US from Germany (Bavaria to be exact) in 1869. He was a cabinet maker by trade. In 1871 his wife and sons Theodore, Edward, and Karl arrived in Chicago to join him. By 1886 father and sons were producing display cabinets for neighborhood grocery stores and other specialty stores (haberdasheries, women's clothiers, etc.). In 1887 Heinrich passed away and business was continued by my great-grandfather Theodore and his brothers. By the beginning of the 20th century their sons had joined the business and Bromann Brothers was employing about 20 people. Their specialty had become building and installing freezer cabinets and later walk-in freezers for neighborhood butchers and package goods stores throughout the west and north sides. It helped business that two of the daughters married into family businesses that relied on refrigeration: the Peter Fox family (Fox Deluxe beer) and the Elmer Kneip family (Kneip Corned Beef). The company's most profitable (if you can call it that) period was from about 1900 to about 1945.
As you can see I posted this in 2000. I now have family back to Germany.

Here's what I know and what I'm seeking:

Anna "Maria" Kneip
b. 15 May 1834 Kautenbach, Luxembourg
m. 23 July 1860 Kautenbach, Lux to Pierre "Peter" Reding.
Peter and Maria had 6 children:
-Anna Margaret*
-John
-Peter
-Christoph
-William
-Elizabeth
(*Anna Margaret is my gr-grandmother.)

Maria Kneip d. 24 May 1882 Adams, MN, of tuberculosis. I assume she is buried in Adams.

Maria had a sister, Elizabeth (b. 1833) who married Peter after Maria's death. Elizabeth and Peter both lived to be quite elderly and died in a nursing home in Dubuque IA (Peter in 1920).

Maria and Elizabeth's parents parents were Wilhelm Kneip and Anna Marie Keyser.

I'd be interested in learning about any earlier Kneip or Keyser generations.

Sorry, all I know is Elizabeth and Anna "Maria" Kneip. They were born in Kautenbach, Luxembourg, where their father was a miller. The building/mill where they live still stands today, according to my uncle who visited the town a couple years ago.

I've learned some additional generational names, though. The following information came from the cemetary in Kautenbach:

Maria's parents were Wilhelm Kneip (d.1860) and Anna Keyser. Wilhelm's parents were Johann Kneip (d. 1823) and Anna Maria Kuetz (d. 1847).

Perhaps this will help...? Good luck,

A

I have an original postcard photograph of “Dorothy V. Kneip”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1911, and she is a cute baby in a christening gown; she looks about 9 months old. The writing on the back of the card mentions Asa and Ray being with grandma…. if that would be of help to anyone.

I found Dorothy Kneip in the 1920 census for Royalton (Waupaca Co.) WI, as daughter of William and Charlotte. She was age 10.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Dorothy Kneip.
