My Kneisley ancestor migrated from Virginia and lived in the Jefferson City, MO area from the 1850s to his death in 1885. However, there are a few Kneisley families living in Kansas City, MO and Independence, MO that you may wish to contact.

Looking for info on the Ralph and Elizabeth (nee Geddes) Kneisley family from Kansas City area. My info matches the above posting other then I have the sister name of Mary Ellen not Faye. Would be interested in comparing notes. Does anyone have Mary Ellen/Faye's death info? She is listed in her relative's obit as Mary Ellen Glossip and I find her in the 1958 KC,MO city directory with Joe W Glossip.

Okay... this might help you or not... my great great great grandfather was named Noah Kniesley. He was born in 1825. His father was John David born Nov 22, 1768 and was married to Mary Rhodes for 45 years. They then had 12 children 10 boys, and 2 girls. His parents moved to Ohio in 1801. The children names are John, Jacob, Ruben, David, Samuel, Henry, Philip, Joseph, David, Noah, Mary, and Betsy. Now I don't know if this Joseph is the one in your family.. I have three books on the Kneisley family, but it is at my apartment and I am at my parent house at the moment... If this helps any .. let me know and I will look in my books for anymore information I might be able to find...

Don't know if the following will help about your Kneisley family inquiry. My wife's maternal great grandmother was Ida J. Kneisley, born 1861 in Jefferson City, MO. Her father, Joseph M. Kneisley was born abt 1828 in Virginia. We believe he moved to Missouri in the 1840's. He married 10 Nov 1859 in Jefferson City, MO Mary Jane Meredith who was born in Cole County, MO in 1837. During the Civil War he served with the Confederacy in the 9th Regiment of the Missouri Sharpshooters Battalion. We are still looking for any siblings he may have had and his parents. Would appreciate hearing from you if you can make a connection.

I'm searching for anyone with Kneisley ancestors who may be able to connect to JOSEPH M. KNEISLEY, born abt 1828 in Virginia and died in Jefferson City, Cole County, Missouri on 4 Oct 1885. He married Mary Meredith in 1859 in Jefferson City, MO and he served in the Confederate army in the Missouri 9th Sharpshooter Regiment during the Civil War. He and his wife only had one child, a daughter named Ida. His obit says he "removed" from Virginia to Missouri at a "young age." Great, great grandmother was Frances Kneisly, dau of David B. Kneisly and Anna Fidelia Blue-Kneisly. They moved to Miller Co., MO before the 1880 census.

Have found them listed in other reports using botn spelling variations.

Does anyone know the origin of this surname? Is it German?

Thank you for getting back to me. I live in Ohio. I know there are some Kneisley's in the Cleveland area and my husband coaches one of them. I have not talked his family yet. I am still digging. I know some Kneisley's once lived in Pennsylvania awhile back. All I have to go on is an Elizabeth Kneisley who married a Peter Strayer in the late 1700's. How far into completion is the family history book? Do you know where the concentration of information is? I believe Cambria Co. Pa was one area. I'm not sure. I'll keep you posted if I find anything.

I do not know a lot of information except for what my Dad has told me about our family. He recieved his information from a cousin of his who has researched the Kneisley family and is writing a book. My dads cousin's name is Barbara Barton. She lives in Conroe Texas (I believe). Barbara has trace the roots of the Kneisley's back to Europe, I believe. We have not talked to her in a while, but I am sure she can help you. If you have any questions email me.

My g.g.g.g. grandmother was Elizabeth Kneisley. She married a Peter Strayer. That is all the info I have except that their daughter was Barbara Strsyer who died in 1836. Does anyone know anything else? Thanks.

John M. Kneisley who you have found in Highland and Pike Co., OHio censuses was the third child of John Kniesley who was born 1760-65 near Woodstock, Frederick Co. VA (now Shenandoah Co.). John died 21 April 1845 in Greene Co., PA

Your John M was born ca 1799 in Whiteley Twp., Greene Co. PA.

Anthony Kneisley is my 10th-great grandfather with descent as follows: Anthony>Johannes>John>Christian>Daniel>David>Daniel>Margaret (Bruner--my great, great great grandmother.)

Most of my knowledge of the Kneisley's comes from a privately published genealogy written by Violet Goold (Margaret's grandaughter) in 1986 and entitled Bruner Knisely Kith and Kin.

For those who are interested, the first of my Kneisleys to emigrate across the border was Daniel, who moved to Iowa. His family later moved to Missouri and from there to Oregon, where I now live.

Violet Goold is still living at 95 with her daughter in Denver, Colorado. I would be happy to facilitate contacts for anyone interested in talking with her or obtaining her book. (Warning: it is an exhaustive catalog of descendants at 310 pages.)

Mary is my greatgrandmother b. 1864 Pike cty Ohio.d/o Noah Kneisley and Sarah Anserson.She married my greatgrandfather Bradford Williams in 1895.BUT my grandpa's death certificate says his mother is Mary Shinkle.She was 31 when she married Brad and I have a picture of her in Nebraska?? with probably first husband. Does anyone have ANY info on this family.This is a gap I can't seem to fill.

I am the 7th granddaughter to Hans Kneisley. My line goes Hans, Anthony, Anthony, John George, Johannes, Joseph, Catherine, Albert W. Cole, George A. Cole. I list the children of Johannes as: Joseph b:1817, Jane b: 1825, William b: 1822, Benjamin b: 1828, George W. b: 1833 and an Unknown child b:1819.
