Hollis Harold Kneller, son of Frank A. and Ruby E. Ellenwood Kneller, was born on March 28, 1913 near Prescott, Iowa. His childhood years were spent near Prescott where he received his education, graduating from Prescott High School in 1931. He worked in the local service station and helped his father farm. He entered the military and served with the United States Army during World War II, from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1945. His duties included serving in the horse cavalry in the states, three months in Hawaii, and participating in the invasion on Okinawa in the Philippines. Following his honorable discharge, he farmed near Prescott.
On January 28, 1950 Hollis married Veone Cooper Cihak in Creston, Iowa.
In 1960, the family moved to Cedar Falls where he became a certified welder at Curbmaster of America, retiring in 1978. Hollis moved to Nevada, Iowa in 1988. He lived in the Nevada and Ames area until September 2003 when Hollis moved to the Ruthven Assisted Living Facility.
He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Circle Lodge No. 555, A.F. & A.M. in Prescott, Iowa. He was also a member of the American Legion, the United Methodist Church in Prescott and St. Timothy’s Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.
Hollis passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer, Iowa on May 8, 2006 at the age of 93. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale and Ronald; and two sisters, Helen and Doral.
He is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Richard Lund of Laurens, IA; Catherine and Bill Abbott of Okoboji, IA, Camilla and Jorgen Heidemann of Fort Myers Beach, FL, one son, Dennis Kneller of Winona, MN; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Lavon Rathje of York, NE; as well as many other relatives and friends.
