Helen and/or Katy Knibbs

I'm looking for two sisters Mary Catherine Knibbs and Helen "Nettie" Knibbs. Both were born in WI to John Knibbs a Methodist circuit rider minister and his wife Amelia -- Katy about 1859 and Helen about 1863. They spent most of their lives in Wisconsin and in the 1880 census, Katy and Helen were still with their parents in Brodhead, Green County, WI. Helen was a painter and Katy was a teacher. I have some oral family history that at least one of them moved to the Dakotas...but I don't know a married name for either. Does this ring a bell for anyone? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

I presume your Matthew and Susan Knibbs were from, or were, in Illinois at some time? If this is true, they were mostly likely from George James Knibbs, 1853-1912, or John D. Knibbs, 1869-1934. John Knibbs arrived from England in 1830. George James and John D. were children of Charles Knibbs, whose father was the above mentioned John. John Knibbs had a son Charles, my ancestor.

Please let me know as I have had many problems finding her relatives as she died in a mental institution and they had no recoreds of her parents.
J!

I know a Denis in Birmingham UK but no Tyrone's. Did you know there is a new Knibbs mailing list. It's only been going a few weeks but already quite a few listers from all over the world. Why not subscribe?

It's being run by a man called Alan Jackson who is carrying out a one name study of K/NIBB/S and he has somewhere in the region of 20,000 K/NIBB/S in his database. There are now more than 30 subscribers to this new list, all with K/NIBB/S interests and you may strike lucky.

Why not post your interests to the new Knibbs mailing list. To SUBSCRIBE to the list, send a message with no heading to KNIBB-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains (in the body of the message) the command SUBSCRIBE Best of all, being on RootsWeb it's totally free.

Two other pages of interest:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~knibbetc/ which is Alan Jacksons Web page.
A Knibbs from New York

Ana,

What a coincidence. My parents were also Harold Pearl Knibbs but not from New York. We are from Hampshire in the UK. I have a web site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~knibbs/ that shows my Harold Pearl if you're interested. If you're into tracing the Knibbs family there is now a new Knibbs mailing list at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~knibbetc/. Alan Jackson who runs it is doing a one name study and has some 20,000 K/NIBB/S on his database.

Do you know of Kim Knibbs in New York. She used to have a mailbox called Yellocaddie on one of the ISP's but suddenly it disappeared. I sent her lots of data which she thanked me for and I wonder what happened to her.

Regards,

Don
Wow! that is so weird that your parents were named the same name as my Grandparents. My Grandfather had a sister named Bertha. Their Mother's name was Cora Ferguson she was from the UK. She was very gifted in art and Music. Sadly I don't remember what her husband's name was. Sadly my Grandmother Pear passed away this fall. I'm going to talk to my Father William Knibbs to try to get more info.

My grandfather was Harold James Knibbs. My grandfather was married to Pearl Palmateer.
There was a Knibbs that was an inventor. He invented this thing called "THe KNibbs Run Around" it was a by pass for a fire steam engine, so they wouldn't blow up. When he died the ancesters took it to superior court in the late 1800"s to get some money fo it. It was discovered being the giving people us Knibbs are. Every time some did something nice to him he promised he would give them a share of the profits. He promised a share to so many people that it became public domain. My father has the acctual transits from the court case!!!!
