Frank Kniffen/Kniffin

I am looking for anything on my great grandparents from New York - Francis Richmond Kniffen & Emily Dunn. They had 2 daughters and a son Francis R Kniffen born 9/21/1878 in Brooklyn NY. It is my understanding that when Emily & Frank divorced, Frank & his son Frank moved on the Sioux Reservation with Sitting Bull. It is my understanding that Frank's mother was Sioux. Any information you have would be welcome. Emily apparently moved to Chicago Il with the 2 daughters.

That name go way back in 1600s with George KNIFTON from England. He moved to Rye Westchester County, New York. Around 1800s they all moved to Pennsylvania. My great grandpa is George Lester Niffen & his father name is Aaron Eliphalet[Lafe]Kniffen. There are alot of Benjamins along on the line. They change the last name Kniffen to Niffen in the 1900s. Most of the family is in Louisiana Mo. They always have family reunion at the Sunset park in Louisiana every summer. Around June the weekend after fathers day. My grandma is a Niffen. Her name was Mary Harrison but she got remarried to a Folies.

Kniffens in California, Michigan and New York

John K. Kniffen married Mary Elizabeth (Molly?) Rome or Romer in New York about 1868. They had Newell Grant, Warren Ellsworth, Horace Benjamin, Rose Ann, Melissa J., and Nelson William (all Kniffens). All were born in New York, as far as I can tell. Newell Grant married Louise Maria Stanton about 1895 and they both died in California. They had Stanton D (Dewey?), Isabelle or Isabel, John Russell, George P, Hadie (Hadee?) and Newell Grant (or Nelson?). Stanton married Eola Breeding and they had Stanton D and Virginia J. Kniffen, all in California. John Russell married Gladys Louise Dequine and they had John R./Russell J. (possibly same child?), Richard Lee, Lida Louise and Ethel Marie, all in California. George P married Florence and they had George and James, all in New York. Newell Grant/Nelson? died in California. I don't have any family for him at this time. This is all I know of this family and they are the descendants of the one
Rome or Romer sibling that I can't find. Does anyone have any info or a contact person on any part of this family?

I have two Ward Kniffin's in my database:

1) Ward Kniffin born 02 Aug 1864 in Pepin Wisconsin to Lewis Henry Kniffin and Mary (Catis or Cater). Married twice, first wife Martha Ann South (1867-1888) and they had a son named Burnie Ward Kniffin (1880-1960) born Minnesota. Second wife was Effie Elvira Clark (1873-1969) and they had six children.

2) Burnie Ward Kniffin (son of Ward and first wife above) born 29 Jun 1888 in Montevideo MN, died 31 Mar 1960 in Grand Rapids MN. Married Hilda Amanda Christenson and they had 9 children (none named Ward).

I don't have any indication that either of these Ward Kniffin's lived in Illinois. Also neither had a spouse named Grace. Although #1 Ward had a brother named Merit (my great grandfather) who's wife name was Grace Mabel Livens.

Hope this is of some help to you.

His children were Ida, Lucy, Alvin, Katy (my great grandmother) and Ira. I am having trouble find his father and mother. Katy was later known as Kniffen and m. Benjamin Duncan.
Kniffen, Harry and Bertha - NY

I'm looking for information about Harry Kniffen who married Bertha O'Dell or Odell. I have Harry's parents as Erastus Kniffen and Elvira Davis. I'm showing Harry and Bertha married about 1916 or 1917. They had a daughter Margaret who was born in 1918. Bertha was institutionalized for a while. Margaret may have been also. They were in Meredith, Delaware County, NY. Bertha died in 1971 in Binghamton, Broome County. Margaret married a Morrell. I have almost nothing on Harry. I'm wondering if Harry and Bertha had any other children, or if Margaret had any children. Thank you.

Dot,

Thank you for your response. Yes, I just recently heard from another descendant that the name was Thomas George, but I don't know where that came from. I have been trying to find which New York family he came from.

I realized after I had posted on several message boards, that there's no way to find the e-mail address of a poster (or at least, I don't know how to) in case one wants to respond personally. I have started including my e-mail address to my posts.
dellasha@juno.com
