I am Gen. Joseph Farmer Knipes ggg granddaughter He married Elizabeth S Hagan. I know they had many children. One was Theresa Knipe Hogentogler (married Oswald Hogentogler)I can't find all the info but when I do I will send you more. Thanks for the response. Seems my "Redmayne" morphed from Redman. He was originally William Redman Knipe, the youngest son of William Knipe, Grocer of Kirkland and Jane Batty,daughter of Christopher Batty and Alice Redman.

Your John Knipe may be related to another Knipe family here in Australia who came from Hawkshead/Consiton area. There was a John Knipe,Grocer of Gateside, this may be him. Let me know if you are interested and I will dig a little deeper. KK

An ancestor of mine named Agnes Adamson, born in Yealand Redmayne, Lancashire married a John Knipe. Agnes' family was all born in Kendal/Longsleddale. I haven't located where John Knipe was born. And there are many other Knipes and Adamsons that moved between Kendal and Yealand Redmayne/Warton as well.

Charlotte Knipe

Charlotte Knipe married William Graham at Calcutta in 1816. I have no information on Charlotte's ancestry although I would guess that she was born between 1780 and 1800. I know that there were Knipes at St Helena at this time and that St Helena was on the trade route to India so I do wonder if this is where she may have been born but I really dont know.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

If the Redmayne relates to his mother's maiden name, there is a long established connection with Kendal, Levens Hall & Yealand Redmayne going back hundreds of years.

I have information on the Knipes but I don't know if they are the same ones. Francis Knipe is male (the female form is Frances). The Francis I have is Francis Melville White Knipe bapt. 10 Aug 1832 and has two brothers - William Nixon Knipe and William Sneyd Knipe. Is this what you are looking for?

Your information on the Knipe records interest me. My GGG Grandmother was Mary Knipe (Knype) married to Martin Tade in Indiana, 1827. Her father was Lancelot Knipe b.3/18/1779 in Soulby, Westmoreland Co. England m.6/7/1802 to Elizabeth Jackson b. 7/5/1779. They had 5 childred Mary, Nathan, John, William and Lancelot all born in VA. USA. Lancelot's father was William Knipe b. 1752 in Kirby Thore Parrish, Westmoreland Co, England m. 3/11/1776, Wairby, Westmoreland Co., England to Mary Steel b. 10/1749 Warcop, Westmoreland Co.,England. His father was William Knipe unknown birth but from Westmoreland Co., England. Any information will be helpfull.

Joseph Farmer Knipe. His grandmother was Bertha Viola's sister, Ida Irene. She married William Gastrock and they had 2 sons, Joseph Knipe Gastrock and Earl Gastrock. Both are deceased (of course). Hello Lynn - I will try to clear up a couple of items right now to cut down on some future confusion. When I posted a query two years ago, I was using my partners e-mail address. Now I have my own, which is cemmack@yahoo.com. Also, I entered the wrong name in the original query regarding Knipe. It should have been ENOS knipe and Eliza Emmack, married in Muskingum Co, OH, rather than PHILIP knipe. It appears both of these Knipe fellows lived in the same vicinity. Here are some other facts surrounding this situation.
Philip Knipe m. Anna Winn Mar 20, 185l, Muskingum Co, OH
Eliza Emmick (relationship to me not established, but could be a sister or cousin to my first Irish Ancestor, Wm. Emmack, who also lived in Muskingum Co from 1832 to 1860's) m. Enos Knipe in Muskingum Co in 1847. They are later found in Hocking Co, Oh in the 1870 & 1880 Census.
Eliza Emmack (daughter of the ab ove mentioned Wm. Emmack) m. Wm. Gorman in Muskingum Co, OH in 1856. It appears that they may have gone to Hamilton Co, OH.

I would like more information for John S. KNIPE and family. John was born about 1818 in Pennsylvania. He was married to Mary MOSHER(?), also born about 1818 in Pennsylvania.

In 1850, the family was living in Worcester township, Montgomery, PA. By 1860, they had moved to Beaver township, Butler, Iowa.

John and Mary had the following children:
Henry M. b. 1844/1845 in PA - married Sarah? in Iowa (a teacher in 1870)
Margaret A. b. 1847 in PA - married George BASS in Iowa

I was reading over these posts refreshing my memory and I can see an update is needed for anyone interested.

Henry T, Knipe born April 20, 1853 in Louisville, St. Lawrence Co., New York, and died Bef. 1910. He married 1) Amanda Wright, she was born about 1856 in PA and died March 20, 1928 in Crow Wing, Minnesota. Apparently they divorced and he married 2) Ellen Mary Brick April 01, 1891 in Jackson County, Minnesota. SHe was born 1861 in Ennis Moore, Ontario, Canada, and died January 06, 1898 in Austin, Mower, Minnesota. Hnery married 3) Jane Branahm.
Herny had the following children with Amanda:
i.ORRIN3 KNIPE, b. May 1879, Wisconsin; m. ROSE
ii.ELMA KNIPE, b. November 30, 1880, Minnesota; d. October 19, 1934, Spokane, Spokane, WA. Married Charles Arthur Russell had 7 children.
iii. WILLIAM KNIPE, b. March 1882, North Dakota.
iv. MYRTLE KNIPE, b. Abt. 1887.married Joseph Bushway. 2 daughters.
Henry's children with Ellen Brick are:
v.RAY C.3 KNIPE, b. April 1893, Wisconsin.
vi.ROY KNIPE, b. April 1895, Wisconsin
vii.ELLA MAE KNIPE, b. April 11, 1896, Bismarck, ND; d. October 26, 1955, Post Falls, Kootenai, ID. Married Grover Cleveland Fish. 8 children.
viii. TWIN 1 KNIPE, b. 1898, Austin, Mower, Minnesota; d. 1898, Austin, Mower, Minnesota
ix. Margaret Cecelia Knipe . 1898 Austin, Mower, Minnesota adopted by Sheriif Alex D. Cameron, married John McArthur 5 children.
We previously assumed that Amanda Wright Knipe had died but she was later found married to Henry's nephew Ira Whiting with 3 children.

We still have some blanks to fill in and would appreciate any information any one has on these families.

I have a William Garnett will dated 1817. William mentions daughter Margaret married to Christopher Thorber. William Garnett also mentions two nephews, Rev. John Knipe and his brother Thomas Knipe. Eliza Knipe and Charles Smith were both born in Ireland - probably Northern Ireland. Their daughter Mary Ann Smith was born Aug 1863 in Ireland and immigrated to Philadelphia, PA. Mary married David Percival Harry in 1888. I would like to know more about Eliza and Charles.

Knipe Family of St Helen Island

I'm looking for information on the Knipe family of Saint Helena Island, in particular REBECCA J KNIPE, born around the 1860's and married to JAMES H PAYNTER. They had a son PERCIVAL EDGAR PAYNTER born on St Helena on 13 June 1886. I believe Rebecca's mother was a SARAH KNIPE who, I guess, was born around the 1840's.

I have knipes who married into my family tree. Archibald Knipe married my granny's cousin, Bessie Woods. They lived in Armagh at Killyleagh and their farm was called Drumsollen. Siblings were in Derrydarragh and at Tannagh also at Killyleagh. In 1888 there was a Samuel Knipe at Culkeeran House, Killyleagh.
