I just came across your reply. Were any of the Kodate's born in IL. The ones I have in Ga. were born there, but their parents were from Bohemia. From the 1900 census it shows they had only been in Ga. for no more than 2 yrs. They had a child Annie that was listed as being 3yrs. born in IL.And Helena 1yr. born in Ga. The only other family from the area of Austria (other than my Grandad) was a family surname Haskovec. I've have'nt been able to find this name anywhere. Not even in the soundex. Hopefully you;ll be able to find something out on Kodate and a connection can be made. Thanks for your reply. Susan

My Grandaddy came to U.S.A. from Bohemia in late 1800's. He lived in a small farming area in Southeast Georgia, where there were not many families from Bohemia. In the 1900 Census there are two families from Bohemia listed. One Kodate, the other Haskovec. I was wondering if anyone knew if these two families could be connected. If so if they could be connected to my Grandaddy. His name was changed to Smith. We do not know what his given sur-name was in Bohemia. Any advice or help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Gwen,

Yes, I do believe our families are one and the same. These KODAD'S were the only ones to settle in the Northeast. Most went to Nebraska or that area of the country. I have no idea why they settled here.

If your William is who I think he is, he was the adopted son of Joseph C and Susie A (DRISCOLL). I do have some info on this side of the family, I'm not sure how much. I'll take a look today at my photocopies and information on my computer.

If you want, email me at Eiresluv@aol.com

I'm looking for information on the family of Joseph Charles Kodad, born September 28, 1881 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. His son, (my father-in-law) William Kodad, born June 25, 1917, does not remember his grandfather's name, other than the fact that he was from Europe, possibly Germany or Bohemia, and was a "very stern man" with a big handbar mustache whom he feared. There were a number of Kodad sons, who Bill recalls as Frank, Charles, etc. and he thinks his grandfather and father were typesetters in Boston. Bill does remember cousins in Dorchester, but he doesn't recall if they were relatives of his mother, Susan Driscoll, or his father. Bill is the only surviving child of Joseph Charles Kodad, and the only child to have children. Bill's mother died in 1941, and he had little contact with his father after that. Although my husband was born in Boston in 1948, he has no memory of any paternal family contact. I am trying to pull together information for Bill, my husband and the 3 grandchildren; unfortunately, there is almost no one to talk to. Does any of this sound familiar? Thank you for your help.

Hello Sam,

It seems that the KODAD's came from Bohemia, around Prague. I have found a KODAD out in CA, and his family came from Tabor.

I am hoping for some guidance here. I am trying to locate information on my father's side of the family. Unfortunately, I am not able to inquire of his brother and sisters.

William KODAD was born in Austria, possibly Bohemia. William KODAD emigrated to the US, do not know when. He married Mary TRAYERS from Ireland, once again, not sure when she came over. They had several children, among them my grandmother Rose. I have all the other children's names, if if becomes necessary.Rose was born in Boston. She married Thomas KILROY. They had 6 children, one was my dad, George.Thomas died in about 1952 and Rose was left to raise their children alone. Apparently, Thomas was not a very nice man, which is why I can not get any information about this side of the family.

If anyone has ever come across these names, I would appreciate whatever can be offered, no matter how small it may seem.

Thank you.
