I am wondering of anyone who may know of a Charles Koehler who came over to America... I don't know when he came over but if anyone knows, please mail me....

My grandfather was a "CHARLES KOEHLER" who immigrated from Germany (East Prussia, Mecklenburg) about 1883 when he was 4 years old. His parents were Herman Johann KOEHLER and Bertha Haver or Hafer. They lived in Chicago until they homesteaded in
North Dakota about 1906. If you are doing research on the Koehler's from East Prussia (Germany) I would be interested in hearing from you.

well, the date of Charles Koehler sounds correct but the Charles Koehler I am looking for was a resident of a small area on the South part of Wisconsin...I'm not at all sure there is any relation and I am very interested in knowing which part of Germany my releltives came from. I'm afraid I would not be able to give a lot of information about my grandfather but if you do have ways of finding information please e-mail me! I'd very pleased....

My Charles (Karl) Koehler was from Stecken, Province of Bohemia, Austria and settled in Freeport, IL (Stephenson County) as well as Evansville, (Vanderburg County) IN and St. Louis, MO. They may also have settled in Chicago, IL. Charles was my gggrandfather and was married to Elisabeth ??? and had 2 children..my ggrandmother, Claudia Koehler, was one of them. She married John Schlauch in Evansville, IN.

My great grandfather was also Charles James Kohler from Austria. He had came with his parents from Austria or Black Forest, Germany. He had 2 sisters: Rose and Minnie and his brother was probably Fred. His parents were Carl and Anna Kohler. Charles Kohler had worked before in Chicago, serving Al Capone as a newspaper boy. He left Chiciago and went East. Had a family there with 2 kids: Beatrice and Edward...( so that's what my granny said...she doesn't know for sure). He divorced their mother and married my great grandmother, Venora. He had 7 kids with her. One of them is my grandma, Jeanette Kohler. Charles was born 11/29/1898 (that's what the certificate said) and died in Long Beach, California 6.1969. I have a picture of Charles Kohler at his old age. Batwomanrg@aol.com if you holler! :)

Robin: That does not sound like my Charles Koehler because he would have been born at least 50 years before that and lived in both Evansville, Indiana and Freeport, Illinois...but I doubt Chicago.

I just started researching my Koehler ancestry when I found your message. I am related to the Cataract Koehlers. Charles and Mary came from Mecklenberg Germany but I don't know when they came over. Have you had any luck? My next step is to see if I can locate an obituary. Charles was one of the first pioneers of the Black River Valley in Wisconsin. They had two sons: Charles, Jr. (born 6/5/1863) and Frank and four daughters: Minnie, Augusta, Eva and Zettie. Hope this helps!

Hi Jason,Charles was also called Carl,settled by the black river near Cataract about 1861 or so,when he came from germany I dont know.His son named Charles was born 1863 lived on same place and married Anna(I think Jessie was her last name)They had 8kids,John a was born 1890 and he is my granddad,Fritz (fred)was his brother born 1896 was the only one I knew from this bunch.
