Classification: Query
Surnames: KOHN/KOEHN, WILKENS, GOEGGE
I have been unable to trace my Kohn/Koehn family tree prior to my gr-grandfather's arrival in the US.
Here's what I know:
According to the 1920 NY Federal Census for Chautaugua Co, Hanover Twp, August KOHN immigrated to US in 1881 and eventually settled in Silver Creek, NY
According to family legend, he came from the Isle of Rügen and was traveling with his brother Herman who changed his name to KOEHN and settled in Cleveland, OH
According to the Glenwood Cemetery, Hanover, NY records, August was born in 1853 and died 04 OCT 1927. His wife Augusta (1855-1936) is buried next to him.
August and Augusta had 8 children, 4 girls and 4 boys. None of the daughters (often referred to as "the aunts") had any children. My grandfather William John (1882-1961) was the oldest son. I never met his brothers, Frank (abt 1884-?), Harry (abt 1886-?), or Carl (abt 1891-?).
If any of this sounds even slightly familiar, it would be wonderful to hear from you.
