Kofod in New York

Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to locate information on my gggrandfather Louis A Kofod born in Oct. 1870 or 1871. Specifically I would like to find out any immigration information. He is listed in the 1900 Census in Jamestown, New York. His wife's name was Hansina born in Jan. 1868. They both have Denmark listed as their place of birth. Louis listed his year of immigration as 1891 and Hansina is listed as 1892. From the Census data I believe they were married in New York around 1895. Their children listed in the Census are Ruth E. Kofod born in 1896 and my ggrandfather Henry W. Christian Kofod born Dec 22 1898 in Jamestown, NY. Henry deid in 1919 at the age of 21 while my ggrandmother was pregnant with my grandfather. Apperantly there were some hard feelings between my ggrandmother and Henry's family, so none of my living relatives know anything about this side of the family. Louis does not show up in the Census again until 1930 still living in Jamestown, NY and with no children in the home. I know alot of work has been done on the Kofoeds in Denmark and I would like to find my family's connection. I have not found any immigration records for Louis and, as I don't know Hansina's maiden name, I am don't even know where to start looking for her. I believe Louis may have Americanized his name. I would also like to find out what happened to Ruth after 1900. If anyone has run across any of these names in your research please let me know. Any help is greatly appriciated.

William Kofod
sasori00@yahoo.com

Hello. My name is John Stevens. My grandfather's mother was a Bornholm Kofoed, who emigrated to the US with other Mormons and treked to Florence, Nebraska, on the west side of the Mormon bridge. I am attemting to trace some of the family connections, and wish to visit Bornholm at some time in the fairly near future. Given a little time for my researching my Mom's rather comprehensive gathering of geneology for my Dad's side of the family, I will be more knowlegable if you choose to reply.
johnstevens1939@yahoo.com

My father, Steinar Kofoed, and I are leaving for Bornholm in the beginning of September to try to find out more. But are you sure that Hans Christian Kofoed was born i 1842, I have had a hard time getting that confirmed. Great if you also have additional information.
Stale

He had a sister, named Opal that lived in Canada. I know I have a cousin that lives there too. Opal was married to a Harry Gallagher. (Don't know if spelling is correct.) My father is the baby of the 12 children.
I have just recently decided to search our family. This is the first time I have been on this site. What a surprise to find your message.
Feel free to contact me at QSTBLOCK@aol.com, maybe we can see where we fit in.I will try to get you more precise information on the exact area of Canada others live.
Hope to hear from you.
Deb

I am in the mist of creating a book, Mending the Fabric of Our Relationships" for my daughter Erin. I envision this project to be a collection of stories from Kofford/Koefoed/Kofoed women within my lineage.

So . . . this message is a request 1) if you may be part of this family of women, to consider if you have any stories about yourself in relationship with others that you would like to share with me or 2) forwarding this posted request to a woman in this family who would be interested in gifting me with a story.

Hopefully, each woman who receives this message will feel
comfortable gifting me with a story and forwarding this request on.

I have a great deal of hopeful expectation that each woman will respond in a manner that is comfortable for her. If you have a need to confirm that I am who I present myself to be and/or to submit a story, please feel free to email me at bkofford@att.net.

With A Hopeful Heart this Project Turns Into Something Wonderful!

Re :Gifting Erin with Stories from Kofford/Koefoed/Kofoed Women

Dear Angela:
Thank you for responding to my message.

A month or so ago, I found myself thinking about the discussion I had with my daughter about her current pregnancy and how she
mentioned that she wanted this child to be a girl so she would have someone with whom to pass on family traditions. This thinking combined with my belief that women gain personal knowledge and strength from their collective understanding of historical struggles has resulted in my wish to create a
book that is a collection of stories of Kofford women.

I believe it is how we have mended the rips and the tears in the fabric of our relationships that demonstrates the strengths of our commitment to ourselves and to others. It is my thought that the quality of all relationships can be understood through an analogy of fabrics. That is,
a bolt of fabric is unique to itself and throughout time the pull and push of life results in an increased individuality. I have found that fabrics often times begin to fit the curves of my body more softly as the threads in the weave begin to stretch, fade, thin, and tear. If a fabric, like a
relationship, remains as crisp as the first day it touched my life, then I believe I would have to wonder about the quality of my days.
In response to an inquiry from an e-mail, I have decided to extend my invitation to men contributors. For they, also, are about relationships.
Do you have a story you wish to contribute? If so, please visit http://womenin-series.com/page45.html. I have more information at this website -- the submission process, a disclaimer, a family diagram that is in process, and a story written by my mother.

Hi,

I am a Canadian of Danish ancestry, my parents emigrated to Canada after their marriage.

Anyone interested in Kofoed genealogy, and for that matter has any Bornholmer ancestry, check out my website.

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/HomePages/NormanMadsen/index....

My mother was born on Bornholm and I have researched my ancestry there back to the 1500s. On my site you will find a page with my own ancestry, and a large downloadable GEDCOM database - with information on many Kofoed descendants, as well as many other Bornholmer families.

Good searching! - Norman Lee Madsen

My father, Julius Kofoed, left Ipsker Denmark in 1911 and arrived in the USA at age 19.
I know he had a brother, but I don't know his name, nor do I know the name of his parents. He was married to
Blanch Harding. I had 11 brothers and sisters. Only 4 of us are living. I would like to find out anything about my
father's family in Denmark.

RE :GRAHAM AND KOFOED OF BORNHOLM

I am looking for the family connections of my great-grandfather, Henry Philip Graham of Bornholm, Denmark. He was born in March 1842, the son of Philip Graham and Anna Kofoed. Philip Graham is sometimes listed as born in Denmark, and sometimes Scotland. Anna Kofoed was Danish. Henry Philip Graham immigrated to America in 1868. He settled in Annapolis, Maryland, where he was Captain of the Watch at the United States Naval Academy. He married Mary Margaret Kealy in 1884 and had 5 children, 3 of home survived to adulthood. He died in 1925.

Kofoed seems to be an established Bornholm name, but I have been puzzled as to how the Scottish Graham clan wound up there. Are there still Graham relations in Denmark? Can anyone help with Anna Kofoed's family?
