I am trying to identify the family of Maria or Mary Kohler/Kuhler. She was married to Johann Christian Schiedel(a Mennonite) in 1824, at the New Hanover Lutheran Church where Johannes is buried, so I am wondering if she is a grandchild or other relation to him or others of that name in New Hanover. She was reported to have been a native of Montgomery County. If you (or anyone) has further information, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Don't know if you are still monitoring this message after so long. My family came to the US and Ohio around 1910ish. My great-grandfather was Matthew (Matthias) Kohler and his wife was Theresa Hoffmann Kohler. They were from Apatin, Hungary (now in Serbia). My grandfather Stephen Matthias Kohler was born (in Akron I believe) in 1918.

I don't know if they spent anytime in Clark County, but I know they did move west from Portage and Summit counties, eventually making their way to Wisconsin.

Although my family has used the first names of "Johann" in different ways when my Great-grandfather (2X) came over here with his family he and his wife both used their middle names.
a long time ago, my mother had a leather bound book with the family crest on it. it was the book of Kohlers. I think she ordered it through the LDS maybe...but she lost it, (actualy we think her greedy sister stole it) but we've not been able to locate it for YEARS. the book has all of our Kohler roots going way back, and all the way forward...so maybe if I inquire with someone at the LDS i can get another copy. I'm pretty sure it was like a $500 book, though...maybe a bunch of Kohlers can get together and pool our money and share the book...put in to a pdf file (which I can do no problem) either way, if I find out where she got it from...maybe I will be able to order it...

KOHLER and SAUNDERS, in MOUNT VERNON, USA

I am seeking information on Amelia Kohler (born Amelia Offergeld in Aix La Chappelle, circa 1806-11). She moved to Mount Vernon, New York, from either England or Ireland following the death of her husband, a merchant tailor named Charles Kohler, who had businesses in both countries.

Amelia Kohler lived for many years with her married daughter, Mrs SAUNDERS, at South Fourth Avenue, Mount Vernon, and died there in 1897 at the age of 92. Amelia's funeral service was held in Trinity Church in Mount Vernon.

I would be incredibly grateful to learn more and to share the information I have.
Hi,

It's not much help at present and may never be, but my ancestor, Charles Kohler, popped up in the Dublin, Ireland, records at about the same time as your moved to the US. Research indicates that my Kohlers were also originally from Baden.

It's said that often ship owners conned immigrants that they were going to the US, took their money and deposited them in England or Ireland so who knows, maybe my Charles ended up in Ireland by accident!

I can't trace any further back than this - all I know is that Charles' wife was called Amelia Offergeld and that she was born in about 1806-1811 in Aix La Chappelle (now Aachen), Germany.

If you ever do get further back and find a Charles amongst your Kohlers, please do bear me in mind.

You know more details than I do - except that his wife's name, the way I understand it was Magdalena Sommer 1857-1926 (not Magdaline Gunther). Thier daughter Veronica was my grandmother.

My grandmother was Magdalena Maichle, she married a Kohler and they immigrated to the states in 1879. They had at least 2 children, Charles Anthony born in Johnstown Pa in 1881 and Mary, my grandfather later married a Josephine Keegan in Cincinnati. My grandfather had a cousin Wendlin Maichle in Wisconsin. Does any of this sound familiar to you?

I'm looking for any information Gustav Kohler. He was likely born in 1853. he traveled to america with the griepentrog(/Trag)family. we suspect he was related to a Dorothea/Dorothen Kohler who married Christian (Gottlieb) Griepentrog. According to the papers the village and destination were unknown and Gustav was listed as a laborer.

What we do know is that Gustav Kohler was 19 years when he left germany some time in May of 1872. The ships name they came on was called the Humboldt and it left from Stettin, and arrived in New York on May 22nd 1872. From here our records just have Gustav Kohler disappearing into thin air, but the Griepentrog family went to Mayville, Wisconsin in dodge county.

My ancestors were George Frederick Kohler and his wife Sophia that came here from Baden Germany in 1833, with their son children (incl my ancestor Frederick). At first they lived in NJ, then moved to Brady, Clearfield, PA. Shortly after moving and establishing themselves in PA, George Died. His widow Sophia lived at the family farm until her death in her 90s.

I can not find any information on these two, except from the History of Clearfield County PA (a Book that is available here, but also my mom had a copy of the pages)

I do not know Sophia's maiden name. I don't have dates other than when they came to America. I don't know their parents names, and my searches keeping coming back rather fruitless. any help would be appreciated.
