In response to your posting, I googled Barent Jacobszen Cool and Barent Jacobszen Kool. There seemed to be quite a bit about him--usual spelling problems in this type of Internet research.

I haven't done any intensive research about him since my posting. My sources are all secondary.

Do you have any in-family information about him?

JM at 11mitchell@mchsi.com

Hello,

I have this same mystery too actually only I have two girls born in 1669 Marytje and Maria (born Nov. 3). I don't have any marriage info since I have searched for that yet. Are the marriage dates the same? Maybe they were twins? or maybe Marytje was born in early 1669 and Maria in November.

Have you had any other luck with this?

I have a puzzle in my family tree. Appolonia Barents KOOL (29 Jan 1645 Esopus, Ulster, NY - 1721 Rhineback, Dutchess, NY) and her husband Willem Isaacsen VANVREDENBURGH (1 Jan 1637 Kloosterkerk, Hauge, NY - 1703 Rhinebeck, Dutchess, NY)and their daughter Mary VANVREDENBERG (3 Nov 1669 NY,NY-1710 Ulster, NY) appear twice on the same page in my family tree. In both instances Mary is married to Jan Hendrickson KORTRIGHT (1674 New. Orange, NY - 1747 Sandyston, Sussex, NJ). His parents are Hendrick Jansen KORTREGHT (1648-1741) and Catherine Hansen WEBBER (1652-1740).

Can anyone give me some information that would clear this up? Thanks!

Harm Hermanus Brink (b. 12/01/1892) was my grandfather; Abraham Johannes Brink (b.3/27/1857) was my great-grandfather, and I believe that Jan Albertus Brink (b. 9/21/1821) who was married to Maria Kools (b. ?) was my great-great-grandfather. That's where the records that I have are sketchy. Can you help me with the family tree prior to Abraham Johannes Brink? Can I contact you directly? Thanks so much.

Barent Jacobszen Cool

My children perhaps trace back to Barent Jacobszen Cool through their mother's side. She descends from the Dutchers. I used Frank J. Doherty's SETTLERS OF BEEKMAN PATENT as my guide to the Dutcher family.

I show Peternella Van Vredenburgh marrying David Dutcher in 1735. Peternella's grandmother was Appolonia Barents Cool, and I think that Appolonia's father was Barent Jacobszen Cool, a man who is ancestor to a great many Americans by now.

I show Barent Jacobszen Cool married to Marretje Leenderts, but I am not sure whether Barent was married more than once. Also "Jacobzen, Kool Barrent" took the Oath of Allegiance to the King of King of England after New York fell to the English. Same person? Did more than one Dutch colonial use this name?

I welcome any help in confirming or correcting my data. The Dutch naming system confuses many researchers, including me, and I see various versions of the same information on the Internet,

Was Arentje born in the US or NL? Was Dana male or female? Two or her children were probably named after her parents, so we could eliminate 2 of the children's names if you know the names of Marinus's parents. Do you have a year of emigration? I see a couple in Zeeland who look like a possibility for Arentje's parents but need more to go on. Hope I can help.
Joan

He was Epis. Clergyman.

He married Elizabeth (Betsy) P. Bowers (b.1819 MASS/ RI).
Three known children: Elizabeth B.Cole (b1845+/- Mich), Mary A.Cole (b 1849+/- Mich), and Ellen Cole (b 1851 Wis).

I found an Azel Cole (b1778 in voluntown, New London, CT) and am wondering if this might be his father, or an uncle. Unable to find names of his children. Am also wondering if this is the same Azel Cole listed in the 1810 census in Sterling, Windham CT.--and if his father is Noah Cole (b 1747 in Voluntown, New London,CT/d. 1808 Windham, CT).

There is another Azel Cole (b. 1725 in Voluntown, New London, CT)-might he be the grandfather?

There are a lot of Coles from CT and RI who have a middle initial of 'D'--I found two Coles with the middle names spelled out: one was 'Dill' and the other 'Delaney'. Checking the Census for 1820 showed there were a lot of Delaney family members, so that could tie in to Nancy Delaney (1798 Shrewsbury, MA) who married Stephen Cole (1793 Sutton,MA) . Have not yet found the names of her children.

When I checked the census records for 1820, I found there were a lot of Cole family members with the middle initial of D, and many of them lived in RI, so is there a chance township boundaries were redrawn? Or the families moved?
I am wondering if some of these Coles might be siblings:
Geo D. Cole 1817, Samuel D. Cole 1818, Azel D. Cole 1819,Clarisa D. Cole 1821,Jas D.Cole 1822, Sypha D.Cole 1823, Martha D.Cole 1822/23.--all from Providence, RI.

Does this connect with anyone else out there?

Diane Wallace

Diane,

I am surprised that your query did not get forwarded onto me. I have changed my email address to the above. I was surfing and checking message boards for information and new posts.

I changed my email a couple of years ago. I usually delete stuff so be sure that Cole appears in the subject line or I will delete it.

Im not at home so Im not able to check my data base (which I am rebuilding) but I have several hard copy books which I can check. Elizabeth is certainly a family name, so if you get this please send me some specifics so that I can match it correctly.

Clarice

Hi Tony,
I did a Google search on your grandfather's name and came up with this website:

http://home-1.tiscali.nl/~liak/kool.htm

5. Anthonius Hendricus (zie IV.24).

Hope this helps.
Regards, Adele
