Donny, your info re the name of John McGee's father was David, whose father was also David. I suppose what I'd really like to know, besides the query in the post I just published, is what is known that would support the contention that John died in an Indian battle.

The spelling of the McGee/McGhee name: On all the records in NC it is McGee, but by 1834 my 3xgrandfather James name is spelled McGhee in records found in GA. His wife, Mary, was Crouch in NC, is Couch by 1850, the year James died, in GA records. So he gained a letter, she lost one. No harm, no foul, I suppose, but it does make researching more difficult.
