Looking for information about the African American Koonce family from Dothan, Al. My great-grandfather Eugene Koonce was born in Alabama about 1873. He had at least two brothers; Cory and John and two sisters; Cary and Lizzie. Their mother's name may have been Elizabeth, born around 1842. Father's name unknown. Eugene and his siblings later moved to Iron City, Ga. around the 1890's. There is no family history prior to his relocation to Ga. He may have been a slave and assumed the last name of his slaveowner. I am looking for Koonce decendents who may have some relationship to Eugene or a decendent of a Koonce who may have had a relative who owned slaves in the Dothan, Al. area around 1873.
