Are you related to Gottlieb Kopitzke (1836-1918)? Children: Robert, Ida, Bertha, Herman, Maria & Frederick with his 1st wife and William, Theodore, Lewis & Henry with his 2nd wife. If so I would love to talk to you and share info.

Yes, the roots are in Prussia. Somewhere in an agricultural region, I would guess, seeing as the first Lietz family owned a dairy farm (which is now planted with apple trees). Is your last name Kopitzke?

I'm still hoping for a lead. DNA testing didn't reveal any matches in the system yet. I can't believe that only a handful of Kopitzke's are searching their geneology??? I'm crossing my fingers and keeping the faith.

Where are your European roots? Somewhere in Prussia? Just curious. I can't tie us back to Europe yet. The trail is cold.

Thanks for your response. Gottlieb Kopitzke farmed in the Pickett area. His wife's niece Helene (Lena) Lenz lived with the family at least until after the 1910 Census. Then she disappears. Inasmuch as she was 17 years old in 1910, we suspect that she married. That is where the trail goes cold. I was hoping that your spelling was a variant of Lenz as spelling was not standardized. I guess the hunt goes on! Thanks again and good luck with your search.

I'm still here! I would have to dig out my files since it's been a while that I referred to them. Have you tried census data? Using the census and cross-referencing with the plat maps I've found to be quite useful. I do not recall running across the Lenz/Lentz family. What sources have you tried?
