Lynn,

While Anson died in India, he had six children in England. Two girls died when they were very young, two girls, Enid Elizabeth and Dorothy stayed in the Pendeen area, but the two boys, William Donald and George Lionel, immigrated to America in the 1920's. Now that I know how the Korb's ended up in India, I'm interested in figuring out why the various Korbs went to England.

I do have information on this line if you are interest. I am very interest in whatever information people have on Anson's ancestors.

I found this link for the 1911 census -

http://www.findmypast.com/home.jsp

You have to pay for the information, but since I was only looking into the Korbs in Pendeen I purchased a small amount of credits to cover it. I have no idea when the 1911 census will be out on ancestry.com. My email is rkorb at qisc.com if you'd prefer to share information this way.

You also take care

Have you any other information on that line too- you spoke about the 1911 census- where did you find that please.

Take care.

Janice,

Alfred Edwin Korb (a surgeon) had a son name Anson Wilfred - he is the line I'm tracing. This Anson did live in Pendeen he was married to Jane Jeffery in April 1897. But, in the 1911 census he was no longer living with his wife Elizabeth Jeffrey. His last child born in Pendeen was in 1904, so he did return to India sometime after that. He died and was buried in 1921 in India.

There was talk by Anson's son, George that he had another family in India, but that was speculation by their family. Maybe your Nancy Korb was the daughter of Anson Korb whose family was Alfred Korb. I have no death information on the elder Alfred Edwin Korb, I only know he was born in 1851.

However, we suspect there is another child born to Alfred Edwin Korb and Sarah Ann named either Edwin or Alfred Edwin, which would make him Alfred Edwin Korb Jr. There is a Lieut E Korb listed on the WWI medal card for Anson Wilfred. Alfred Edwin Korb Sr. was an apothecary to the Nizam of Hyderabad.

Let me know what information you have on your Alfred Edwin Korb and maybe we can put two and two together. Over the past month, with the help of a few of Alfred Sr's decendants, I've been able to put together a pedigree on my line of Korbs.

Hope to hear from you.

Hello there, my name is Lynn and my father Leonard Smith was born in India (1920), as was his father and his father and so on.
My Great Grandfathers name was George Thomas Smith and in 1864 he married a lady called Alice McKenzie her parents were John Wellington McKenzie (who served in 102nd Reg.Royal Madras Fusiliers) and Amelia Korb. Amelia's parents were George Korb and Sarah Lawrence.
I am just waiting for a copy of Amelia Korb's marriage certificate to come from The Asia, Pacific and African reading rooms of the British Library in London. This department has the largest data base of most British expats who were born, and lived in India. I would be very interested Robin to make contact with the Carrie you mentioned as we have the same gg grandparents. Amelia (nee Korb) and John Wellington McKenzie.
Looking forward to speaking to the other Korb family soon.

My name is Janice Lightfoot and I live in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. My husband is George Willam Lightfoot and his mothers name was Nancy Korb. His father Roland Wynn Lightfoot married her in Quetta( then in India) in 1942 and on their marriage certificate her fathers name is Alfred Edwin Korb. We have always understood, ( until we found the Cornish connection ) that he was a Dutch Customs officer who lived and worked in Rangoon. Strangely, another family tradition is that Alfred Edwins father was a doctor, possibly a physician at the court of the Nizam of Hyderabad. Nancy was born in c 1916 and I can't find any records of AE to tell us his nationality or if he is the same AE mentioned in the wedding entry in Cornwall. This may be because the family seem to have spent time in India so records tend to be incomplete. I have only just started researching the family history so I will let you know if I find out anything further.

The Korb name is spelled many different ways, including but not limited to: Korb, Korbs, Korab, Korob, and Corob. They are spread all over, and appear to be of Jewish descent. One lady wrote a book about it. In one place a Jewish Rabbi, name Rabbie Korob had the spelling of Korobeinik

Henry, there were many variances of spelling on the Korb name including but not limited to: Korb, Korob, Korab, and Corob. My family's name is spelled Corob, but my grandfather's orginal marriage license spelled it Korob, and he was from Russia, immigrating to NY in 1911. He was born in 1885;his parents were Martin and Alducah. He had 7 brothers and 4 sisters, and he ran into a brother by chance in Michigan at the Ford Motor factory in the 1920's. We'd heard his name was shortened at Ellis Island, and we're not sure if that is correct or not. There is one book out that states this name is of Jewish descent. I had no luck researching the family name with the Corob spelling. When I switched to Korob for researching purposes(after finding the marriage license), I believe I located the location that my grandfather's brother may have lived. In addition, I found a Jewish Rabbi's story with the last name of Korobeinik, which was from the tribe of Judah (same tribe as Christ). - Larry

I am looking for clues on the Henry Korb family that immigrated from S. Russia in about 1894 and settled in Boyd County, Nebraska. Henry's wife was Dora (possibly Dorothea)Zemblman. Their children - Jacob (b. 1867), Henry (b. 1876), John H. (b. 1879), Gottlieb (b. 1883) & Eva (b 1884).
I am especially interested in Jacob who I believe ended up living in Fairfax, Gregory Co., SD with his wife Margueritte. I'm trying to learn if they had any children.

Josefine Korb from Germany

My Great Grandmother was Josefine Karoline Korb. She lived in Germany and was married to Michael Johann Koppl of Germany. They had 4 children I think: Anna, Betty, Karl and Josefine Karoline Koppl. Josefine, my grandmother, was born on May 05, 1905 in Munchen Germany and married Nakolaus Schwaiger in MArch 1927 in NYC.
I believe that Josefine and Michael Koppl were circus performers in Germany.
If anyone has info on this family, I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Sue

Amelia Louisa Korb, born 12/30/1863 was married to Jacob Weigel. One of their children, Palmer Earl Weigel was my grandfather. He was born in Nebraska but lived just across the line into Kansas in Jewell county. He married a girl that lived near Burr Oak - and that is where my mother was born. They then moved to Oregon, settling in the Independence/Monmouth area. As far as I know, none of the Korb family came to Oregon, but do not know that as a sure thing. I too feel pretty sure there must be some relationship. Now all we have to do is figure it out, but that is the fun of researching ancestry.

My grandfather was Palmer Earl Weigel. His father's name was Jacob Weigel and his mother's name was Amelia Louisa KORB Weigel. Amelia was born on December 30, 1863 and died November 29 1907. Jacob was born January 12, 1851 and died December 23, 1910. They lived in Jewell County area of Kansas and my grandfather was born just across the line in Nebraska. He married a Laura Mae Reed from Jewell County, Kansas and they moved their family to Oregon in 1934. I also live in Oregon and am trying hard to fill in some missing pieces. I do not have the names of either Jacob Weigel or Amelia Louisa KORB's parents. Would love to have that information and any family history I can possibly obtain. I have wonderful pictures of Amelia KORB and Jacob Weigel that I would be happy to share.

Im not sure if this is the same family, although the you would think it would be. The Korbs are actually my girlfriends family, I have worked a little on her family, and did the posting for her. I have looked though our paper work and cant find an Ameilia Korb, but that really doesnt mean much. The fact that her Korbs and yours came from Jewell County, makes me think there is some connection. Did your Korbs come from Burr Oak? and did they live in the Salem area in Oregon? If so maybe we can connect. Thanks for answering, I look forward to hearing from you again.
Val

Their parents were Frederich Korb and Anna
Martha Schade. They came to the US from Germany
in about 1853. They spent some time in Indiana and maybe
other places before moving on to Kansas. I would really
love to see the picture of your Korb lady.
Sorry to have taken so long to reply, but have been out
of town and am slow catching up. They had several children in India, Anson Wildred (1871), P A, William D, George Lionel (1874) and Irene (1875). I am looking for information on Alfred and his son Anson. Anson moved to England where he married Elizabeth Jane Jeffrey and they had six children.
