Re: Clyde Korn Ogden, UT originally from Texas

Hi,
My Korn family came from Bavaria sometimes they would refer to it has Germany. It was not unusal for folks from a family there to all have the same first name. This not just my family. You may come across this at the LDS site, on church records and on ship's manifest.
The middle name is what was different and the name they would use.
Also, to add to the confusion, at times, my family would use the spelling Corn. I've been told that it would be because, that's how the census taker spelled it. I have a hard time believing that as the census takers were unusally from the area and the area would have most people from the same place as they seem to have come from in large groups from the same country.

The Clyde Korn I have indicates his parents as James Logan Korn and Bettie H. James born November 1, 1877 in Texas and died September 1962 in Utah. Bettie born about 1874 in Texas. Sons James Mabry Korn and Clyde Carroll Korn. Think there are more children, but have not figured that part out yet.

My grandfather is Clyde Korn, his father was James, I believe. They called him "pop" Korn. He had passed away before I was born so I didn't know him. They are buried by each other so I will double check the name. It's hard to believe there could be two Clyde Korn's.

Hi,

My name is Mathew Lawson and I am searching Clyde Korn from Texas also. My indications is that he died in 1997 at Ogden Utah. I have his family traced back to a Michael Korn born in 1823 Pennsylvania. My interest comes from his wife Nancy Napier, I have seen other last names given for his wife, but truely believe it was Napier. As her father was living with them at one point, and his name was Thomas Napier.

I found the Declaration of Intent for Karl "Will" Heinriech Korn and learned he was aboard the ship Vaterland, which was siezed by the U.S. at the start of WWI at Hoboken. The ship was ordered to stay there to avoid falling into enemy hands. She stayed there until 1917.

Does anyone know what happened to the crew members?
Did they stay on the ship for three years?
Were they allowed to leave and find jobs if they were considered "aliens?"

Also have Will's birthdate: 20 October 1885
He is married to Therese who resides in Germany.

Thanks!

Despearately looking for any information regarding Karl Wilhelm "Will," or "Willie" Korn. The family story goes that he was working on a German merchant marine vessel during the war (1914-1918) and was captured by a U.S. navy ship and taken prisoner "somewhere in Pennsylvania." After the war he was let go and he decided to stay in the U.S. He went to Michigan. I have no information who he married but supposedly, it was the sister of his roommate from Cleveland, Ohio area. Willie talked his parents into coming to America. The parents and Willie's new bride did not get along. Willie's Bride was unfaithful and when he found out, he took her and left--leaving his parents to fend for themselves. The family never heard from him again. I have not been able to find him and I do not know the name of the girl he married. HELP!!!

Sharon,
I'm not sure where my great-great grandfather was born--possibly in Saxony. I would guess he was born in the 1830s. His daughter (my great grandmother) Katherine (Kate) Mae Korn was born in NY about 1858. Katherine married Josiah Henry Kellogg and they had my grandfather, Cecil Kellogg, who was born in Kansas. Does any of this connect with your line?
Claudia

Rosa C. Korn - Washington DC - odd search

Odd search, this. I recently acquired a late 1800s gown with a label attributing it to "Rosa C. Korn Washington DC".

I purchased the gown to restore and wear to vintage events but since it clearly has a heritage, I have made it my mission to reunite it with a verifiable descendant. The gown is stained and not in the best condition, but I surely would love to have a gown worn by one of my ancestors, so I'm hoping someone here will provide me with this valuable, albeit sentimental link.

Thanks,
Cornelia in California
