Hi!
My birthname is Hege Kornberg, and i am from Bergen, on the westcoast of Norway. My father was raised in Høyanger, near Volda, but his relatives lived in Volda still. I know this...
My father; Olav Folke Kornberg - His father; Lars Olav Gustav Folke Kornberg.

My father told me his g- g father was a sailor, and changed his name from Ekornberg (his birthname) to Kornberg, because it was easier to pronounse to forengers. He lived on a farm called Ekornberg...

My fathers cousin; Lasse Kornberg is a photographer in Volda, probably with an page on the internet ..

I can "investigate" more, and get back to you...
Its so much fun seeing the Kornberg name in use!!
Love Hege

HI, MY NAME IS MONA KORNBERG. I live in Forest Hills Queens, New York. I have a brother named Stanley Kornberg who lives on Long Island. .MY LATE FATHER'S NAME WAS ABNER KORNBERG AND HIS FATHER'S NAME WAS SHULIM KORNBERG (EXCUSE ME IF I AM SPELLING MY GRANDFATHER'S NAME WRONG). MY GRANDFATHER CAME FROM ROUMAINIA, BUT I FORGET WHAT PART OF ROUMAINIA. MY FATHER HAD 4 SISTERS: ETTA, ROSE, MINNA, RAE. Etta married a man whose last name was Lieber, and Rose married a man whose name was Julius Levine. Minna and Rae never got married. Are you at all related to me? Maybe we can search this through together.

Justin,
Regarding Kornbergs from the areas mentioned:
I have a Jakob Kornberg, who I BELIEVE lived in or near Breslau germany, now Wroclaw, Poland.I know of, as follows:
Jakob Kornberg was married to Lena Weiner.
They had at least three children. The children immigrated ,but as far as I know, Jakob and Lena did not.

Eleizer Kornberg was born about 1852, died Aug 1941. He married Rose Cohen, who was from the town of Czentochow, Poland. Rose was the daughter of Isaac Cohen and Fannie Weltman. They immigrated about 1889.

Samuel Kornberg was born About 1857. He married Rose Schmiedler (1859 - 1890). Together they had a son, Markusa Kornberg, in Breslau in Jan 1881. They immigrated to NYC in 1882. After immigrating, he had two daughters with Rose, then she died, and he remarried. I'm descended for the second marriage.

Hannah Kornberg was born about Mar 1865, and died in NYC in 1945. She married Joseph Weisberg. I BELIEVE they were married in the Breslau area, then immigrated together in 1885, but other than census records, I have no proof of that yet.

Perhaps these are three of the siblings of your Yakov? Please reply in either the positive or the negative.

He married Rose Cohen, who was from the town of Czentochow, Poland. Rose was the daughter of Isaac Cohen and Fannie Weltman. They immigrated about 1889. Louis, as he was known in America, and Rose, ran a candy store for years, but died childless. However, Rose's mother Immigrated at aboutthe same time as her daughter, and died in NYC. in the 1920 Census, one niece, Ray Lefkowitz, immigrated 1913, is living with them.

Samuel Kornberg was born About 1857.
ok...no more of these emails, especially for the whole world to see. . If you have a question you can TALK to me. I did get your card, but no gift certificate. Your daughter gave me a separate card and there was a Tony Roma gift card in it. That is why I addressed the thank you to her. I will assume that it was lost then. The main thing is that you were there and I thank you for that. Gifts are less important to me, but thank you for the gift certificate. Not everyone gave me gifts...I just appreciate them being there. There really is no problem, but now I understand that you gave me a Melting Pot gift certificate and thank you.

Hi cuz...fancy meeting you here...I found alot of info at jewishgen.org...and ellisisland.org.

Grandpa Joe and Grandma Frieda were both born in Zbarazh which was Austria (Galicia) then and Ukraine now. He was Josef Kornberg and she was Freude Grunspan. His father was Dawid Kornberg and mother was Lea Matfes. Her father was Chaim Hersz Grunspan (Greenspan now) and her mother was Taube Zipre Rauchman (Richman now). I found two of Grandpas sisters Chane Zirl Kornberg and Rachel Kornberg. I am not sure if two other kids, Moses Herz Kornberg and Ester Kornberg were theirs. Grandma had a brother Nachem (Nuchem) and they all came over in 1907. Grandpa came over in 1909.

I am still working on this....pretty cool, huh? There are actually quite a few Kornbergs in the US, you would be surprised how many.

Love ya,

Joel

Biderman Surname

Justin,
Hi! My name is Robin Biderman and I noticed your posting on ancestry.com. First of all, Biderman was a very common name in Poland.
My family came from a small village near Warsaw called Meidzyrzec Podlaski or Mitzrich. I would suggest
that you go to www.Jewishgen.org (its the Jewish geneology page) and type in Biderman. There are about 16 people
who have that surname in their family and one of them might be able to help you.

Personally, my family came to the USA at the end of the 19th century. My great-grandfather
Barney brought his two brother Abraham and Morris to this country and left their sister in Poland.
They settled around the New York area and eventually started an umbrella business.

I hope this helps!

Robin

Hi Joan,

Grandpa Max lived somewhere in Austria. I'm not sure when he came
to this country. It was probaby in the early 1900's. Anyway, his wife's
name was Sarah, and the only children (I think), were Rose (my mother), and
my uncle "Izzy." I won't get into detail (partially because) I don't know
much detail) now. I haven't a clue where to start, but every so often I
search online databases, and I found your post. You so lucky that you have
an Aunt who is still here to share your family history with you.

Regards,

Janice

Kornberg family tree

My maternal grandfather, who died in 1957 at approximate age 84, had lived on Forsyth(e)St. in Manhattan, New York City, during the early 1900's. He had two daughters, Lilly, who was born in England, and Rose, my mother, who was born in January 1905 in NYC, and four sons, Philip, Abe, Murray and Harold (also known as Raymond). His wife's name was, I believe, Manye (changed to Mary in the USA), my grandmother. They came to this country around the turn of the century. Joseph, or Yussel, came from Austria-Hungary, and I believe Manye came from Poland. Any ties to the family of which you are a part?

There are other grandchildren: Lilly's kids were Elaine Kornberg Cholost and Larry Cholost; Lilly was married to Jack Cholost. Rose's kids were Neal Hoffman, Pearl Hoffman Blackman and Marcia Hoffman Shebovsky. Rose was married to Abraham (Abe) Hoffman, my father. Philip (or Phillip)had two kids:Steve Kornberg and Bernice Kornberg Natelson. Phil was married to Blanche Reisender Kornberg. Murray had 1 daughter, Muriel, whose married name escapes me. Abe Kornberg had a son, Lowell Kornberg. Ray or Harold had two sons, Richard Kornberg and Leonard Kornberg. Ray's wife's name was Sonja.

That's about all I have on this family. I'd be interested to hear from you.

Thanks.

Neal

Gunder Kornberg, my g-g-grandfather, was born in Norway in 1857. He immigrated to the US when he was 29. He ended up in Minnesota, and married Hannah Oleson (or Olesdatter). I believe he was from the Volda, Norway area, from a farm called Ekornberg. Please contact me if you have any information.

Hello Neal Hoffman

I posted two messages on the Message Board for the Kornberg family.
I'd like to talk to you further. I hope this message appears in your inbox.
The Kornberg family I'm researching came from Hungary. Family stories passed down over the years suggest that our Kornbergs are somehow related to the Nobel Laureate, Dr. Arthur Kornberg. Our research has not been able to confirm this.
Our line goes from Hyman (Chaim) to Samuel to Isadore. Around 1900, this family was in NYC (Manhattan). Inthe 1916-1921 period, they were in Montreal, then back in NYC for about 10 Years.
Drop me a note.
Williambwolfe@hotmail.com

Justin;

I wonder if I have Polish anstery. I think I might on my fathers side, Kornberg. I think my grandmother Sarah Lapone or Lupune came from France--I am very sketchy on details. My dad passed away only a year ago and so I don't know much. However, I noticed you mentioned London and my mum was born and raised in Liverpool, England; she came over to the states when she was 21 with my grandfather, Israel Gothalph. My grandmother Rebecca Gothalph was buried in 1945 in Liverpool and so far I have been unable to locate her burial site.

If you can help please let me know. Thank you Marcia Kornberg
