I have posted a thread as well in regards to my great grandparents who emigrated from Finland in the time frame you are describing. My grandparents, Helmer and Lempi Korpi emigrated, I believe, sometime before the 30s. From everything that I've been able to trace, they came from Vaasa/Vasa. Do those names ring a bell?

Is there anyone who knows any information about a Helmer and Lempi Korpi who emmigrated to Upper Peninsula (Ironwood, Ishpeming area I believe) from Finland (Vaasa I think) in the early 20th century? They're my great-grandparents and they both died before I was born. Any information would be fantastic. Thanks

my name is douglas korpela. im new to this but have managed to trace my dads side back through michigan to finland. never new family past grand parents and anyone I would be able to ask has deceased. dads name is douglas korpela,- grandparents leslie a. and roberta j. korpela , dont know robertas maiden,- greatgrandparents john n. and wilma korpela, wilmas maiden is hyytinen,- parents of john n.korpela are j. n. and ethel korpela, ethels maiden is parkela. parents of wilma korpela are john hyytinen and minnie ahola. thats as far as ive gotten.I know greatgrandparents immigrated from finland.hope this helps someone and helps me too. oh and dad and back all lived in or near munising or alger michigan and think leslie had sister named florence Email kmock1@cox.net

Korpi is the name of my grandfathers sister She married a man named emil korpi she also has a sister Liz crowell husband Herb of either oregon or cal. i'm looking for information on the isaacson line and the connection with the korpi family of Hibbing . The reason i'm writing you is that my grandfather 's sister married a Korpi ,I can not find any information on his name thinking maybe the korpi line could tell me some thing he is all i have which is not much.

Martha Isaacson married emil Korpi emils paerents lived in either chisholm or hibbing at the time this all i know my grandfather has another sister elizabeth isaacson married name crowell . emil korpi use to come to my grammas all the time with another couple by the name of waters . Any thing to help possibly would be great

Pylajarva sounds strange.. I think it's probably Pyhäjärvi.

Hi my name is not Angela it is Tammy(isaacson) Dietrich I'am looking for a Martha Korpi Maiden name Isaacson who has a sister not sure of the name but i think she married a crowell and they have a brother Carl isaacson this would be my grandfather and I'm trying to find out more about him as he never talked much when he was alive other then hopping trains to south dakota for fun. He lived in Hibbing Minnesota and was born in chisholm married to ellen (fredrickson) she had 5 sblings she was also a twin. but my interest is in the isaacson side . If this is a realation I would like to exchange stories to find out more about him . If you could help that would be great .there was also a man who was there alot by the name of Waters i think fron Duluth know any thing about them? thank you

I don't know nothing about that but your name emil korpi comes up under my grandfathers line of Isaacson And he was from Hibbing so are my parents. Hello! My father`s grandfather moved to America 1899. He was shot by police in a great strike of miners in April 4 th 1905in Hibbing Minnesota. He had a sister Serafia who was married to Herman Peräkorpi later Korpi in November 15th 1898 in Teuva Finland. They moved to America in September 1900. They got many children. I have the names and dates of births. One of them was Herman. He was born 8/4/1916 in Minnesota Hibbing.Could he be the same Herman you are looking for?

I live in Finland and search Herman (born July4th 1879 in Kauhajoki) and Serafia ( born Janyary 3rd 1880 in Teuva ) Korpi ( originally Peräkorpi ) and their children Hilda 9/25/03 Chigago, Tilda 9/6/06 Chigago, Fanny 12/15/09 Chisholm, Emil 11/1/13 Hibbing, Herman 8/4/16 Hibbing, Ernest 5/22/18 Hibbing, Arvo 5/21/19 Hibbing, Jeannette 12/29/21 Hibbing. These chidren are cousins of my Grandfather. My Grandfather`s father Jakob Korpi born in Jurva 9/9/1869 moved to America and was shot by policeman in 11.4.1905 when there was a big miners strike in Hibbing. Does somebody know something about that?

My name is Robert Hoppe. My mother's name was Tynne Korpi. She was born in Ishpeming, Michigan. Her father's name was Isaac. I know her parents lived in Rock River Twnshp in Alger County in 1930. Would love to know of any living relatives of this family. Isaac's wife's name was Johanna Kangas. They were both from Finland. He emigrating in 1997 and she in 1905. He was married twice, having six children by each marriage. My mother's sister's names were: Lillian, Julia, Emily, Katherine, Elma, Esther, and Alma. Only name I have is one brother, Arnie Korpi. I have NO other information on Finnish ancestery, living family, his date of birth, etc. Looking for anyone who has any information about this man.

I have ancestor's from Jurva and Laihia in Finland. My grandmother was Maria Eliina Korpi born in 1892. She came to America in 1911 and married Antti Siira (Seera). Her father was Herman Korpi (or Korpela) and her mother was Serafiija Latvala. Does anyone have a connection?

My grandmother was Helga Korpi. She lived all her life in
Vaasa, she passed away a couple of months ago
and she became 90 years old or so. (I have to check that up).
She lived on the street Kirkkopuistikko (Church Avenue).
I will have to ask my relatives about her and
her husbands (Aarno) relatives.

I'm a Korpi descendant from a family in Vasa, Finland. I've changed my name and i live in Stockholm Sweden. I know that someone related to my grandfather or grandmother emigrated to the states some 50-100 years ago. Would be nice to get in touch with relatives in the states or Finland.

My greatgrandmother (Elisabeth) was married to a Korpi. She lived in Northern Ontario. Her husband died long before I was born (in a camping accident I believe). If you would like I could find out the first name, or if it's any help the community we live in is Sudbury.

If you contact me I can give you the E-mail addy of Donald Mattson...he is the son of Martha Korpela, daughter of John Korpi (Korpela)...Martha married Sulo Mattson in Ironwood, Michigan in 1934. Martha was the sister of Hjalmer.

My husband is a first cousin of Donald through the Mattson family...i know that Don Mattson is most interested in finding members of the Korpela family.
