My grandmother's maiden name was Koretz. She was born in about 1919 (give or take a year). I believe her father was named Michael Koretz. She has one sister (both are still living)) and she had a brother who died as a child. My grandmother lived in a village called Glaserhau (the German name for the town) in the former Czechoslovakia. The village is also known as Sklene or Turocznemeti (which is the Hungarian name for it). Hopefully some of this info might help in your search.

I would be very happy to hear from you. I've never met another Koretz in my lifetime & it would be interesting to see if we are infact related. :)

Korts - Courts

For what it's worth I have my great grandmother - Augusta Korts or Kourt or Courts. Some of the family used Korts - some used Kourt, and some used Courts. I'm not always certain which way an individual wrote it.
Augusta had the following siblings: William Henry; Tillie; John Frederick; Annie; Minnie; Mary; Alvina ( Veenie). I have reference to their mother as Fredericke Korts and William's son Art used Courts as did most of them it would seem. John used Kourt. So I always have to think about which way to write it. Augusta was the oldest being born in 1872 and John the youngest - 1889. The only thing I know, about where they came from is Mecklenburg in Germany.
davidripon61@aol.com
David

Korts - Courts

Hello David,
nice to hear from you. I can`t solve the spelling problem yet, because you are the first one who told me about. But I noticed the names and will check it out. I plan for my summer vacation a journey to Mecklenburg and Saxonia - Anhalt to check some church records. What I have now is a lot of names, towns and times without connections. I hope after that I'll see a little bit clearer. I'm just using an other browser , send me an email to fromgerd2you@hotmail.com and I`ll give the link to my genealogy homepage. Then you can have a look from time to time .
kindly regards
Gerd Korts

Korts or Courts

Hello Cheryl,
I think it's not german because "Armand" is definitly French. You must know that Strassburg is the capital city from a french region called Elsass. This region belonged in the past sometimes to Germany and sometimes to France. The people there have often a mixture of french and german names.
So it depends on the exact time wether your ancestors are french or german
Hope that helps you
Gerd
Soory that I'm a little late with the answer.
