I can help a little as John Sobojinski was my great grandfather and I am working on my family tree too.
I have a picture of Mary at my parents wedding the year my great grand father died. My grandparents went to Mary's Funeral and she clipped the newspaper article. Not sure if I should type it all here or attach the picture.

Elaine Bennett is my name and I was born in Mauston, WI in 1939. Now I live in Marshfield. I know a bit about Koziol's there because My nephew Goetzke married a Koziol girl. they divorced but I will continue the Koziol search for their girls. About 20 miles north of Mauston is a very small town named Necedah (Juneau Co.)with some Koziol families who seemed to have gone from Poland to Chicago to WIsc etc..
I will try to locate the obit of one elderly Koziol man. I believe his mother was a Julia/Julie.. Check Necedah online phone listing. Sometimes the WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL from Madison, WI can be searched and his death happened in the last 3 - 4 weeks. I still hope to find out how the Necedah and Mauston families of Koziols are related.

I know this is an old post. However, I have a funeral notice that reads as follows:

"Stella Bielak, Beloved mother of Genevive; dear sister of Julia Ciesla; dear mother-in-law of Gerald Draheim; four grandchildren survive. Services Saturday 9 a.m. from Bozek Bros. Funeral Home, 3242 Junction Avenue to St. Hedwig Church. Mass 9:30 a.m. Interment Holy Cross. Paish Rosary Friday 7 p.m."

No date or location, but I presume it is Detroit in the 1970's or 80's. Sisters Stella and Julia are daughters of Anna (Koziol) unk. There were several other siblings that also imigrated around the turn of the century. Including my granddmother Katherine (Koziol) Shulski in 1905.

Hope this helps,
Carole

Looking for Koziol relatives Bialystok, Poland

I am looking for any relatives, or information regarding this family tree... My Mother's maiden name is Wendy Kazel. She was born in Chicago, Ill. Her father was Arthur Kazel. He was also born in Chicago, Ill. His father was Max Kazel. Max, as far as I know was born in Poland with the last name of Koziol. Word has it that his family lived in Trestin, Bialystok, Poland. Max came to the US along with his brother Charles (Hatskel) and they stayed. They had 2 or 3 other brothers, one who died as a young child, as well as one sister, Hava, who was killed, along with 5 of her 6 children, and her mother, (I think her name was Shaindle) by the Nazi's. Their father was Velvale (or Wolf) Koziol who reportedly died in Poland before the war. I have been told that his father's name was Mayah Koziol. If any of these names are familiar, or you have any info, please e-mail me. Thank You.

Okay we are related but because It's late here, I can't seem to connect it, my grandfather was Michael A. Koziol -- brother to your husbands grandfather (?) Stanley (who I believe lives in Columbus, NE now or Omaha (??). I know what their father and mother were John Koziol and Anna Zoucha ... John immigrated from Poland (Tarnov) to Platte County (Tarnov, NE). I believe Anna Zoucha was Russian. I don't know if you know this information or not. I know some of it only because after the death of my father -- I found out a lot about my dad's side of the family. Please feel free to e-mail me if you'd like. My e-mail is AlexKoziol@aol.com -- Thanks.

Hi Chris,
I know almost nothing about Peter and Mary before they arrive in America. I don't even know if either of them had any siblings. There is no mention of siblings in either of their obituaries. On their death certificates their parents are listed as unknown. What little I know about them comes from official records and what my mom remembers about them. Send me an email at sibb55@msn.com.

Keith

Patty or Keith - Have either of you been able to determine the parents or birth towns of Peter and Mary? I am excited to find this thread, this has been the hardest line in my family tree to trace, this is the most information I have found on them! They are my great-great grandparents. Their daughter Agnes is my great-grandmother. The spelling I had for Mary's maiden name was Pogreba, I will start looking with these spellings.

Also Patty - is Elizabeth Koziol a sister to Peter? I do not have any sibling information for either Mary or Peter. Thanks in advance to anyone with any further information and thanks so much for the info posted already! -Chris

Louis & Caroline Koziol (Kozlowski) were my great-grandparents. Walter’s brother, Thomas, was my grandfather. Thomas and brother Frank were named “Kozlowski”, while Walter & Anna were Koziols. The story in my branch of the family was that Louis and his brother (don’t know how many he had) changed their names to Kozlowski during WWI, as Koziol sounded too German and they could not get jobs. My mother, Carol (Kozlowski) Liss, is 1st cousin to Geraldine, Carol & Alfred.

I have been looking into this branch of the family for quite a while, but never got beyond my grandfather’s brothers and sisters and the names of his parents (Ludwig “Louis” Koziol & Karolina “Caroline” (Pieuch) Koziol. I would have to go through my paperwork at home, but I believe that I traced the ship that Louis and/or Caroline came to America on. I also have their death certificates. I hesitate to give you more information, as I don’t have my notes with me. We moved recently, but if you would like whatever information I have, I will try to track down my binder and see what I have.

Keep in touch – I’d love to hear from you!
kholtz@hurstbrothman.com

Kimberly A.
I’m sorry but the names you are looking for do not sound familiar to me. I only have a little knowledge of Peter, his wife Mary, and their descendants. I don’t know if Peter had any brothers or sisters. My Polish ancestors were part of Polish community that settled in southeastern Minnesota, from the Twin Cities to St. Cloud. The Minnesota Historical Society has an online database of death certificates from 1908 to1959. http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm A search of this database with the Koziol surname produces about 18 records. Usually it only gives the persons name, date and county of death. Photocopies of the complete record can be ordered for about $8.00 a copy.

Searching for Mary Koziol. She was born 18 Feb 1899 in Poland or Polish-speaking Germany, spent time in Illinois after arriving in the USA, and raised her family and died in Wisconsin. She was married to Frank Baron (possibly a variation of the real name), and raised 7 children. Mary remarried after Frank passed away in 1946, marrying John Sobojinski (date unknown), then passed away March, 1974, in Mauston, Wisconsin. Any help for either Mary Koziol or Frank Baron: where they started from, when they arrived, were they married when they arrived, or did they meet and marry here? My mother has no idea, and I'd love to have her know something before it's too late, and she's 73. Thanks in advance for any help.

I, also, am trying to reach anyone that know anything about my family ancestry on my father's side, Osiel.

All I know at present is that my father, Monroe Pierre, was born in California. His father, Joseph Osiel, ia Jewish man, mmigrated to the U.S. from either Poland or Russia in late 1880's, early 1990's.

If any of this information matches up with your search, please let me know. I am basically starting with very little information unfortunately, myself.

Please feel free to reach me at marianne@marianneosiel.com, or by phone at 845-942-4657.
Thank you.

My Grandmother was Suzan Koziol before she married my Grandfather Jan Rzemien. The immigrated to the US from Poland in the early 1900's through Ellis Island and settled in Rhode Island. She had a brother Joseph who did live in Central Falls RI for a time, but maybe this is the same man???

Joe Rzemien
Cumberland, RI
jmr728@cox.net
